@d60944 and it is just so special to be able actually hear Grieg playing his own music- the surface background noise almost works as an aid to time travel in our imagination and conjures up an image of Edvard 106 years ago at his piano and putting his heart and soul into playing this very lively piece. Old recordings are the closest thing we have to time travel :-)
Ofcourse it was created as in written...but the time limitations of the equipment at that time saw to it that they had to cut it out of the recording...sadly.
Hey there! Marvelous sound. I am simply amazed by the presence in the cylinder/acoustical disc recordings I've heard on YT. It makes me wonder WHY some pianists struggled so much with the recording process. No, it couldn't have been easy work, but thank heavens there were a number of artists who put up with the hassles and left records for posterity. I just learned that Grieg, a good pianist, also studied with Moscheles in Leipzig, praising his playing - especially that of his Beethoven!
Grieg's beautiful sound comes through with all the limitations of the ancient recording mechanism! BEAUTIFUL!! (:-D) Is this a flat disc recording, or was it made on a cylinder? Grieg studied with Ernst Wenzel, a pupil of Friedrich Wieck, Clara Schumann's teacher and father. THANKS for this posting!
Is this really Grieg playing? Wow!!! It could be that! But he has some mistakes :DDD

d60944, I agree with your commentary upon Grieg. I do enjoy his music, a Norwegian composer/Pianist of my heritage.

I listened to it again this evening. It is so lovely, so filled with vibrant LIFE. I wish Grieg had lived another 20 years!
