I love Oarfish. They're truly fascinating creatures of the deep. We don't know anything about them. They do seem to come out of the sunless depths to die though, since that's when they're spotted the most; dead on the shores.
You're assuming that this species is only found in the Gulf of Mexico, and that it's the only left of its kind. What people claim to see in Lake Lochness may very well be an animal of this same exact species. Until it's proven otherwise, the possibility exists.
@133j0hn No, I think his objection is based on your conjecture that a fish that resides strictly in very deep saltwater locales could be found in a relatively small freshwater lake. A lake doesn't have an ecosystem big enough to support a fish of this size. Sorry, dude, nice try though.
The same species of fish wouldn't be able to survive in both waters. There are only a couple species of fish that can survive in both and that's because they live in the ocean but near the mouth of a fresh water river...unlike this species which lives in deep sea no where near the mouths of freshwater rivers.
I wouldn't be suprised if those things actually account for alot of Sea Serpent sightings through the centuries, sure not all of them do, but you can see where some sailors might have thought an Oar Fish swimming at the surface was a large serpentine creature with ridges or a fin or a mane running down it's back.
@cha5 i doubt alot of many people throughout the years have seen too many of these, since 1860 with all of our new technology theres been very minimal sighting im guessing under or around 100. these are very deep sea fish and only stray into shallow water if they are ill.
Every bizzare or weird story originates from somewhere or something someone has seen and mistaken. So it's only a matter of time we find what the crackpots saw when they wrote the bible haha.
we need to explore our ocean more than space. We all already know there are other species in space but not in our solar system. Our ocean has so many spooky crazy things living in the deepest part of the ocean its scary. too dark to go swimming down there
@promathia1 exploration of the ocean is pointless..the pressure would crush you...atleast you can live on another planet...possibly...but the ocean...not for long...
first i was like thats some kinda crab/shrimp, but im wrong. its one of millions deep sea fishies that werent discovered jet. its so pretty. it makes me happy. :3 <3
That is a great discovery! There are so much things about the sea we have no idea about! The NASA thing is cool but hell we know more about the universe than we do our own planet! Sad, but there is no telling the cool and benefical things we can find in the sea!
NASA is one of the few government efforts that actually produce something worthwhile. There have been so many great spin offs which spawned industries, jobs etc . medical plusses, computer tech....great things..
when I was little I had a poster of some of the moste common fish of our area hanging on the wall. This has been my favorite fish (visually) for as long as I can remember. I'v alwys wanted to see one in its natural habitat, to se how it swims and behaves. Thank you <3
@ProjectDecade the only universe that is limited is the observable universe. But thats just how far we can see. the "Pitch-blackness" of unseen space doesn't mean there's nothing there, it just means light has traveled far enough for us to see it yet. I really think people should stop searching for answers they'll never be able to find and just concentrate on living your life. Don't waste it away worrying about how we got here, just be glad we did.
@ProjectDecade you nor noone else could EVER know that. The Universe has just as bigga chance of being infinite as it does being limited. Nothing in Science is fact. Science changes everyday as we discover things. Saying the universe is limited is basically saying there had to be a creator. People cant grasp the fact that time isn't something that exists, its a measurement used to measure distance. Which means that everything that exists, has always, and will always exist.
we know more about the solar system as our own deep sea. So it is no wonder why we discover new deep sea creatures every year and are still amazed what these creatures look like. Even stories of giant sea monsters become more and more authentic as further we go deeper into the sea.
I can't wait to see more videos and photos of these creatures.
@ExpeditionMystery Yes,yes very true. But unlike the galaxy which is "infinite" as we know, the sea will eventually be "conquered". But then again,we got long way to go.As you said i can't wait for new videos, pictures anything that consists something new about the sea. : )
whats up with the vidoes where people call in, their voice is always so annoying, my cell phone can record a complete conversation without sounding like shit. Why don't they use this simple technology to make these videos less shitty.
Huh. I hear that these creatures are believed, in China, to be a dragon in it's early stage. With them living so deep in the water and unable to thrive elsewhere, they cannot gain their full true stage of growth. The people would only catch it and destroy it just because it is not a normal creature to them! FUCK HUMANS! HUMANS KILL ANYTHING THAT MAY LEAD TO INFORMATION ON HISTORY OF ANCIENT LIFE JUST TO BE FAMOUSE FOR CATCHING THE DAMN THING!!
