  • OHH SHITTT TRISTAN CHORD

  • Wunderbar, I'm crying

  • This is the most fantastic performance!

  • I feel Meir trully is Isolde not only in voice and look but in everything

  • Breathtaking!

  • Clever staging too.

  • Can anyone tell me why her tongue bobs up and down so much at 5:49? Never seen a voice/vibrato do that to a singer.

  • @gardygar It"s like trying to explain why your brain is as small as the head of your dick. It's just nature.... tiny dick, vibrating tongue.....just get over it !

  • @avenginglotus Well aren't you polite.

  • @avenginglotus wow douche bag ... way to answer a question .. obviously this person was just trying to get information not insulting the singer .... no wonder why people are "afraid" of opera with such awful stuck up Opera queens like you making it seem so inaccessible

  • @gardygar it is just a natural response to the vibrato caused actually by the formation of the vowels sounds in the mouth .... you should see Frederica Von Stade's when she sings German .. it looks like it's about to take flight...ha

  • absolutely incredible interpretation, voice, acting, best performance I've heard ever

  • ......genialer Schluss ...-göttliche Waltraud Meier.....

  • Bonjour,

    MERCI.

  • LOL 5:20

  • Sublime Waltraud Meier !

  • This was her best performance, and she is the best Isolde ever. (too bad about Tristan in this production and the sets and costumes)

  • This is absolutely beautiful, I am breathless! As I read sometime ago: "There is nothing like this in all music" . Thank you for posting.

  • What can I say, the lady is beautiful (which helps, ask Callas), she can ACT (also helps also ask La Divina) and not only has she got a voice straight from heaven but she also has Volume to spare (notice how she is not drowned out by the orchestra at 4:53 and 4:58, most sopranos usually are).

In short a magnificent performance and my No.1 favorite Liebestod.

  • Many thanks ! Waltraud Meier is really wonderful...

  • Nothing less than Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the top performance I've ever seen in an opera, how can you not love it.

  • This is THE Isolde per secula seculorum AMEN!!!

  • To me, simply the most beautiful and evocative Liebestod ever heard!

  • There no fight .... she's Isolde!

  • es un orgasmo para los sentidos este final, y como lo canta maier me lo confirma

  • Her voice reminds me of Gundula Janowitz. Gorgeous, angelic sounding voice. Of course it helps that she's very attractive and has charisma oozing out of her pores. I much prefer her as a brunette as well, instead of the blonde Isolde she played at La Scala.

  • Yes! Thank you for mentioning that. Her very high sotto voce at the end was so much like Gundula Janowitz. I used to have the Berlin Phil's Beethoven 9 with Gundula in the quartet in the 4th movement. You've reminded me to replace that recording.

  • Indeed, it's rare for a dramatic soprano or a mezzo to have that kind of light quality to their voice, but it's apparent that it came from a result of her training. She can alter the quality of her voice to suit the demands of each character or direction while still keeping control. Here she is light as a feather at times, and that sotto voce at the end is spine tingling.

  • she's hot!

  • Sie ist einfach...GROSSARTIG!!!

  • A very beautiful woman with an equally beautiful voice. The production is elegant and graceful (unusual for Wagner.) And when Tristan comes on to the stage--that's a touch of genius. I prefer this to the Barenboin version at La Scala--where Meier is forced to sing with four bottles of ketchup running down her face and neck.

  • Meier turns this into such an ecstatic dream..she's brilliant!

  • yes. this is going to sound overly analytitical , cos basically she is just magic... magic... magic... but she achieves this amazing thing of making the mechanics of singing in this extraordinary way seem like the natural expression of a woman who is passing through these extreme realms of emotion. the overall vision is triumphant and ecstatic but she is so without any smug-ness.

  • I got this DVD, it,s fantastic,

  • I wont to get this DVD,but I don't know where can I buy this one.

    Please show me.

W.Meier she is the best singer for Wagner I think.

  • @motoseinenn I just got a copy from Amazon, I love it!

  • Beautiful!!! Wonderful!!! Amazing!!!

    Wagner forever!!!

And Waltraud Meier singing this inmortal piece!!!

Saludos a todos los Wagnerianos desde Argentina.

  • I love Munich. Thanks to Munich for its contribution to European and World civilisation!

  • Well in terms of Art and Music I will agree!

  • This is Germany. Regards from Munich

  • Wonderful!

Who's Brangäne? Her two little phrases sound fantastic!

  • Brangäne was sung by Mariana Lipovsek, one of the favourite mezzos at Bayerische Staatsoper in the 80ies and 90ies.

  • My boyfriend took me to see her perform in this production. I swear, I have never held my breath for as long as I did when she performed this aria.

  • How lucky that you saw her perform : )

  • I ... *cough* ... cried.

Very innovative having Tristan come join her instead of having Isolde keel over and (ostensibly) join him. Look at the love between them.

  • Brilliant!

Its the Kip Kinkel reapiting song!

    Beautiful,tnx.
