  • can someone help me with it? when i plug mine in the mouse and everything else doesn't show up its like a dual display where the mouse goes from my laptop screen (Ex: from the right) then off my laptop screen onto the tv screen and i can't get it to change

  • I have a 2009 macbook pro that does not have a mini displayport compatible with audio, so I am using a male to male 3.5mm audio cable, but the audio is not working. I do not see my TV on the list of outputs under audio. Is there any way to deal with this? Thanks.

  • You don't need the audio cable if the macbook pro is from mid-2009 on because apple made mini displayport capable of transmitting sound after that point. I watched this video and it took forever for me to figure that out.

  • Thanks for this very enlightening video. I didn't even know there was such an adapter cable. Hoewever, can you share your experience regarding the picture quality? Is there any noticeable difference compared to an HDMI to HDMI connection (not that there is an option when it comes to Mac, thank you Apple...)

  • I CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING. you need a what now?

  • does not work...

  • it screws up when i close the lid and want to use it with wireless keyboard and mouse .. what can i do

  • idiot

  • I think that movie is made in Norway :)

  • I didn't need an audio cable to get the sound out of my tv, just go to the sound preference in System Preferences, click on Output (or whatever it says on the english OS) and in the list you should see your TV (in my case it says '32" TFT-TV')

    No hassle at all!

  • @Ibenflow this helped me alot thanx

  • im gonna play minecraft on my 50' tv

  • is there anyway you can display what's on tv on your macbook screen with this adapter? is that possible? thanks guys

  • HDMI = High Definition Mulimedia Interface

    Multimedia = video and audio

HDMI carries audio; you just need to select share audio on your MacBook pro

  • @MrAlreadyGotThose Where in the settings can I find to share Audio? I'd really appreciate it!

  • Where can I find this cable

  • Next level Amnesia playing. Good god help us all..

  • What do I do if it's not recognized on the tv?!

  • is it better with HDMI or DVI?

  • NETFLIX HAS NOTHINNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!11

  • time to play minecraft!!!

  • So HDMI cord doesn't include audio??? Someone please answer. Thanks

  • @MEJB7 it depends on the adapter that you get i know the one that I just bought doesn't support sound but the one my friend got does.

  • @MEJB7 The HDMI cord does in fact support sound and audio, the problem is that mac's do not have an HDMI and thus need to use an adapter in connecting the tv and laptop. Therefore, the adapter needs to be able to also support sound and not just video or you'll need to get another cable for the audio connection. There are some adapters out there that support both functions, just make sure to check out what your planning to buy :)

  • @Informerer Thanks man, i just got my HDMI cord + adaptor a week ago. I talked to apple support online and gave him my serial # and he told me my mac did not support audio. But i did some further research and found that the mid 2010 macs (my mac) does support audio. Its one of the first macs that starting supporting audio through the mini display port.

  • why are u using an audio cable? doesnt the hdmi cable transfer audio?

  • @mostinho9

    most definitely does.

  • I don't think my computer recognizes my tv? i have an LG 42 inch and my macbook screen turns blue for just a second and then goes away?

  • @prsguitar6910 I have the exact same problem, did you find a solution yet?

  • @ida1bless I had to buy a new adapter for it. Once i took the old one back and got the new one it worked perfectly.

  • WHAT KIND OF AUDIO CABLE ARE YOUI USING?

  • @TheDudimus you don't even need audio cables. any hdmi cable should put sound through. you just need to change the settings on your mac

  • @4manda8 Not for me, Its a 2009 macbook pro, not compatible with audio via HDMI.

  • @TheDudimus ohh.. mine is the newest white macbook. i think it's 2009 too. but i guess the macbook and pro have different things when it deals with audio.. sorrrrryy good luck

  • @4manda8 Yeah, I figured something out to work, thanks.

  • it doesn't seem to be able to transfer

  • Apple is so stupid for not having a HDMI port in all his products.

  • @Escorpio40 Fuckin Right. That shit hella fuckin pisses me off.

  • @Escorpio40 Apple is not a person

  • does macbook and macbook pro have the same MiniDP?

  • I'm trying to get this same setup going, only I'm using an iMac. I've got the cables I need and everything hooked up properly. My question is how do I get my movies to play direct to the TV as if I'm watching from a DVD player? Is this something that can only be done with the Macbooks?

  • Solution: If you want your television/second monitor to display the same thing as your primary display, go to system preferences, select displays, and enable mirroring. Mirroring refers to showing the same things on both screens.

  • okay either im an idiot or i bought the wrong cable but the dvi connection that i bought doesnt fit my macbook, is it possible that i bought the wrong one or what?

  • Can you give the names of the cables? Thanks

  • Why do you need an audio cable? i thought hdmi was video an audio in one cable.

  • can you play or watch videos on youtube?

  • If you give me the right cable and adapter, I'm sure I can plug in the two ends without much instruction. But if I haven't those items, what do I shop for? First off,

    a) What's the extension thing on the end of the DMI cable, some sort of adapter?

    b) Are there different sexes of DMI socket, and if so, Is the DMI socket on the MacBook female or male? Do you have to specify the right cable or adapter to accommodate whichever sex it is?

  • mine only shows the default mac wallpaper please help

  • @jogolwenzel See above for aktionjaclyn's comment! I was having the same problem. Go to System preferences- Hardware- Displays- Arrangements, then tick 'mirror displays'.

  • I keep on getting to no signal sign on my TV so it's not recognizing it, what should I do??

  • When i connect the cable from my tv to my mac book, the screen turns blue for a few seconds and then nothing??

  • Response please!! When i connect i can see my screen fine but its random spurts of static non stop any clue why?

  • you can transfer the audio and the video only with HDMI

  • I thought HDMI cables deliver both video and audio.

Why do you need a separate audio cable for this?

  • is it possible that i can connect my Macbook to cable TV without a Tv cause i don't have 1, but I'm really looking for to watch Cable shows on my Mac just like we do on a Tv? thank you

  • @saigongentle EyeTV sells an adapter capable of doing just that.

  • hey man my tv doesn't have overscan options that i know of that are changeable... what can i do to get rid of the borders?

  • I have a question. My audio input on my TV appears to have RIGHT and LEFT inputs instead of just one. Is there is a special cable I can buy for this??

  • i thought hdmi also supported audio

  • @jsupermax It does but not the Apple version of HDMI.

  • what audio cable did you use?

  • hey my macbook pro has 1440x900 resolution... If i bought a TV with 1920x1080 resolution would the mac be able to put that high of a resolution out on another monitor?

  • FUCK YOU MAC WHY DO I NEED AN ADAPTER!!

  • @turdsandwicher Cuz it's 1080p and with a normal HDMI Cable you can't reach that high quality ...

  • @turdsandwicher i Know how dodgey is that, no hdmi no vga fuck off!!

  • hello. can someone help me please? i just bought this kinda cable and connected and it seems to work just like in above video. but i dont want only dvd's and stuff. i want my whole desktop screen and moving mouse just the way i see it on my mac book on the tv screen. is that possible??

  • @sk83502 yea go to system preferences, displays, arrangement, mirror displays. fixed mine

  • @sk83502

I don't see any replies yet. Forgive me if you have already received some. Go into your Apple icon (top left corner) and select System Preferences. Select Displays under Hardware. Now select Arrangement, then check the box that says Mirror Displays.

  • @aktionjaclyn thank you my friend

  • @aktionjaclyn THANK YOU SO MUCH!! That was exactly what I was trying to find out!!

  • @aktionjaclyn THANK YOU for that....that's exactly what I needed. Now, what is that audio cable called and how easily can I steal one? lol

  • @aktionjaclyn. Thank you. Your advise helped me enjoy my MacBook Pro too.

  • @aktionjaclyn Hi there, I have a question as well, right now I have a 2011 macbook pro 13, which has a thunderbolt port. How can I connect this tot an HDTV? Thanks!

  • @aktionjaclyn Thank you soooo much! I thought something was wrong, because my screen saver would pop up, but nothing else.

  • @aktionjaclyn Thank you! Thank you- i was about to hit my head on the wall (no, not really)

  • @aktionjaclyn thanks ;) kinda late to say thanks, but forgot about this comment.

  • @aktionjaclyn Thank you so much… that helped a lot.

By the way. You don't need an audio cable if u are using HDMI cables, just go to audio in system preferences and change the output to the TV you are using.

  • @2799015 hi i was wondering if you knew what to do if the tv you are using doesn't show up in the sound output preferences? i've tried unplugging and restarting things and it still doesn't work. Thanks

  • @aktionjaclyn mine never comes up with arrangement, and my hd tv always comes up as a blue screen, what is wrong?

  • @aktionjaclyn I did that and it still doesn't work do you have any idea why? please help

  • @aktionjaclyn thankyou for saving my life

  • @aktionjaclyn THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH YOU HELPED ME FINALLY FIGURE IT OUT!!!

  • @sk83502 OMG thank you so much!!! I was having a hard time figuring out how to make this work until I read your comment lol thanks!

  • thanks, great help, although I found under the audio settings you can select the tv you have connected to for output and then the audio comes through the tv without the need for a separate audio cable. Only HDMI was needed. quality is perfect. For the display though I had to play around with the monitor settings to get both the laptop and the tv to be identical. Originally when I connected it all up the tv showed the background image but not what ever I was looking at one the screen.

  • thanks, great help, although I found under the audio settings you can select the tv you have connected to for output and then the audio comes through the tv without the need for a separate audio cable. Only HDMI was needed. quality is perfect.

  • I tried to use a 30" LED Sony TV using an HDMI cable. The fonts looks really blurry and hard to read on the TV but not the laptop monitor, can you help me with that please?

  • Hey, great video, but I have a couple questions. I know the white thing is an adapter I can buy, but what is the black cable you are using in this video. and how is the video quality? I had an apple employee discourage me from using this option saying the quality was terrible

  • If my macbook lcd is broken n i cant see shit..will it show on the tv when i plug it in ..i pllsss help!!

  • my tv just comes up with the wallpaper but nothing else. any help?

  • @natheyboi13 Maybe your TV acts like mirror screen, you should change it on the system preference.

  • @britishmariobros which part of system preferences? iv looked but cant find anything related to connecting it to the tv.

  • @natheyboi13 System Preferences -> Display -> Arrangement (Only if you connect your TV) and Uncheck Mirror Display.

  • @britishmariobros thanks it works now (=

  • dude, u dont need an audio/digital cable. all u need is the mini dp to hdmi adapter and a hdmi with audio and visuals.

  • when i connect my mac the screen flashes blue like in the video but it only shows the middle of my desktop, it like zooms in and if i go to a movie it just stays my desktop zoomed in? any help.

  • @DeViLGhoSt17 wat u need is a pvr to record game play in 720p

  • Sick, im thinking about getting a macbook, can you only do this with the pro? or is it possible to do with the normal Macbook's?

  • @sobekflakmonkey You can do it with any macbook, be it pro, air, or just the standard one, as long as it comes with a mini display port.

  • @SomeMacTips Sweet! thank you for answering that question!

  • can you please help me!! my laptop is macbook 5,2

and the apple store keep saying that my model doesn't have a hdmi

what can I do??? or where I can find one? is there any solution for my problem

  • @cemeteryangel01 you can buy it from the mac store they don't have it just get it from ebay or something

  • Thanx man. That was helpful. (Y)Like

  • How much does all the wire cost?

  • OMG. I use Macbook pro and Samsung 3D series 8. I had to setup sound on both. It worked. Don't need to buy any thing guys..

  • there is no need for the audio cable......... you need to hook up your hdmi only than just go to system preference, than click on sound, than on the top select output and name of your tv should show up there and when you select your tv the sound will switch and play through your tv....i had a hard time with this as well but finally figured it out. let me know if you are having trouble with it

  • I just bought a minidisplay to VGA and my TV is not detecting my Mac and vice versa.. can someone help me with this? It's a new 42" Sony Flat screen

  • is that a sony bravia and a macbook pro? i think i have the exact same tv and lap top. haha weird.

  • can you use firewire to hdmi?

  • who needs apple tv

  • how does it work for models prior to mid 2010? i just bought a stereo cable with headphones into the mbp and rca cable?

  • is this for apple tv?

  • That's not 1080p. To fervid full 1080p u need to mirror displays & then shut the lid & wake it up with an Magic Mouse or keyboard & then it will be on your TV 1080p.

  • The audio cable (regular 3.5 mm stereo male-male I suppose?) looks very cool but it's not listed on your website. Where can I buy one?

  • what happens if you have surround sound

  • Hey, on the cables website it says that the Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter comes with sound ? does that mean you still need the sound cables ?

  • MacBookPro4, don't have that port.. I have DVI.. How do I do it that way..

  • When i hook my HDMI into the tv all i can see on the tv is a wallpaper, how can i see what im doing on my laptop, on the screen?

  • @GeekedUpp717 on the display options for the tv, select the mirror option.

  • @GeekedUpp717 Mirror

  • Does anyone else have the problem of your screens randomly going black, but everything is still working. It's been happening to me alot, should I set different resolutions? I'm on 720p

  • my picture on my tv is always kinda fuzzy... any way to fix this? i tried different resolutions.. but they dont work. i use HDMI and i have tried 720 and 1080 but its never sharp!

  • Hey man how do you play the movie in full screen only in the 2nd monitor? coz when i try to make it full screen in the 2nd monitor it goes all the way to my macpro.

  • Looks a lot like my TV. I have a SONY Bravia 32 inch tv that looks exactly like that.

  • Where would i get the HDMI cable?

  • @starnessness If you didn't understand his accent he said for the HDMI cord to fit into the Mac you will need a: MiniDisplay Port to HDMI Adapter. (They are sold at Walmart) There is other brands I think, maybe... Not sure.

  • @RaymondBPittman Haha yeah I have the mini display cable. :) And thanks! I just came back from Wal-mart! :)

  • @Billroy64 setting in tv or macbook?

  • Big Buck Bunny!!!! class blender film :)

  • where do i get this cable from???

  • Hello? What about resolution settings??

  • why cant apple include just ONE f... HDMI output? I hate the extra adapter cables, what good does the mini displayport do?

  • @TheSteinbitt I couldn't agree with you more! It's the most annoying thing about the MacBook. Ultimately I think it's Apple's obsession with forcing the user to buy it's proprietary crap dongles.

  • @TheSteinbitt Gets them an extra $30

  • @TheSteinbitt AMEN!!!!!!

  • @TheSteinbitt saves space and most people don't need every kind of connection so all they have to do is figure out what they need and buy the adapter. much better than having useless ports along the side of the computer adding thickness and weight.

  • @TheSteinbitt i kinda agree with u but it allows u to do hdmi and other video cables. it also allows apple to make money. :P

  • where do i buy those wires. i rlly want to do this. can u give me a link or something?

  • @Hobinator17 At BESTbuy

  • You do not need the audio cable!!! just change the settings under the sound option in settings to make it play through the tv speakers!

  • @Billroy64 where do u go on a macbook pro to change the settings.. i cant find it!

    Please reply thanx

  • @Billroy64 only on more recent macbook pro's

  • @Billroy64 Not on his generation of MacBook Pro. Only models that were released in 2010 support audio through the Mini Display port

  • @Billroy64 can you explain step by step how to do this because in my sound preferences it doesnt give me another option besides internal speakers

  • @Billroy64 absolutely correct! thanks for the tip :)

  • how

  • @Billroy64 how to you do that

  • @Billroy64 which settings? on the laptop or the TV?

  • @Billroy64 not on that generation of mac..

  • @Billroy64

That only works on mid-2010 models and newer.

  • @Billroy64 -it's not giving me the hdmi sound option???

  • @Billroy64 -it's not giving me the hdmi sound option???

  • @Billroy64 I dont see any setting in settings there isnt even a "settings" option on the mac. its system preference. and in there i dont find anything to get audio working without the cord.

  • @Billroy64 I dunno what kind of mac you have but it's not possible to get sound through a VIDEO.... keyword video port

  • @Billroy64 Where is the option on the mac to play through the tv speakers? please?

  • @Billroy64 :

I hope you're right. I thought HDMI also handles sound, not just visuals. Like connecting my Xbox 360 to an HDTV -- didn't need an extra audio cable for that.

  • @Billroy64 Please elaborate. :)

  • @Billroy64 what sound option settings?

  • @hercmatt86 Goto System Preferences, click on Sound, goto the output tab and select whatever you want :)

  • @Billroy64 i tried but this didnt work for me? do you have a solution or a step i missed.. thanks alot

  • @Billroy64

Only if you have a 2010 and 2011 macbook Pros do you not need an audio cable. Otherwise you will need to plug in the Audio cable into pre 2010 models to get the sound working through your TV.

  • @Billroy64 wow bro thanks!

  • @Billroy64 because MBP's made in 2009 are not supported with an audio output via miniport display
