@SleepIsMagic Summer squash are fast growing thinned skin, no real shelf life. Winter squash are more slow growing and thick skin. I have seen them last all winter & still be fresh & delicious the following spring. The Acorn I grew had lasted longest. This year I grew the Chiriman & Hopi. Anxious to get to their seeds so I can't test longevity of storage. I may do one Hopi. This squash is fabulous baked!
@SleepIsMagic Hi hon. A zucchini aka courgette is a type of summer squash. Eggplant is a totally different family all together. There are four families of squash too. One can safely grow one from each family without worry of cross pollination. Xo, A
Talk about cross pollination, an aunt of mine has a mandarin orange tree she grew from seed, planted it out and its producin', small fruit but very tasty,...well later on she got a key lime tree, planted it next to the mandarin orange and guess what, we got green keylimes with orange pulp, just as sour as the ordinary green limes but orange pulp! XD
Great lookin' squash,...if it wasn't for you good buddy, i'd be thinkin' there'd only be zucchini, yellow crook neck(and straight neck too) and pumpkins! The diversity is AMAZING, now attention towards the yellow eggplant,....er....YELLOW? Or is it a purple eggplant ripened to the point of seed collecting? Thumbs up good buddy and thankin' ya for the COOL UPLOAD!! =D
@qualqui All the squash shapes, colors, flavors & textures are wonderful! The Delicata had always been one of our very favorites. But after eating the Hopi it now has competition. If you grow this one you will not be disappointed. UMM, yes, eggplant is like the cukes they have to go well beyond edible in ripeness to collect viable seed. I will put an annotation in. I know I have mentioned it before. But I spit out a lot of info so reiteration on that will be good. Thanks for asking!
@qualqui I have grown Purple Long eggplant that goes yellow. This is an green/white variety. It also looks like the Black that is in the garden will go yellow as well. I will keep you posted on my findings. XoXo, A
