hello i was thinking of getting one of these for anime on since watching on my laptop is a little uncomfortable to use like laying on your bed n what not also this would be more portable. i used to have the archos 5 but it did not seem to do very well playing mkv files i was just wondering how well this handled them i normally watch them in 480p and 720p.
Just retried a few of the anime's. Looks like the archos can play more than the ATI card afterall =P It played all my 480p@16refs (3200HD can't do that), and a sample video i have that's 720p@9refs. It wasn't able to play my Hatsukoi Unlimited which was 720p@16Refs, Angel Beats 720p@11refs. So i'd guess that 9 is the limit.
All my other 720p series on hand are usually around 5refs with some going up to 8refs and they play fine.
Wow, I was thinking of getting these cheap tablets as I love reading manga. I've tried the whole e-reader + converting everything thing, but that was too much work and the results weren't as pleasing as I hoped. How would you rank the Archos 101 mainly as a (online) manga reading device?
I don't have the bandwidth for online manga reading so i've never even tried that. But for ease of use, i've just been using CBZ/CBR's (Basically just renamed ZIP and RAR files).
When you run the reader, it automatically goes back to where you left off. So convenience wise, just pick it up, tap the ebook icon, and you're back to reading. And putting it together does not involve any kind of converter. Most comic books you download are already zipped anyway.
Just the text unfortunately. It does read various subtitle formats including bitmap test. But it discards formatting data. So no text matching the speakers hair color, nor text positioned over signposts. Hopefully they'll add full support in the future.
How's the cality of image?

Not if there are too many reference frames. If an anime doesn't play on my ATI 3200HD GPU, it's not gonna play on the Archos =P

@Ibushi well I guess I should ask what can you play on your ati 3200hd I don't believe that to be a very powerful chip.

Is it SSA/ASS Formatting that I see? Even if it is not, the subs seems very readable anyway.

It's as is. The archos is designed to be able to browse your network.
