you should check out my band. "Under the Given" our drummer is really ...different.
he has been in the band for 3-4 years now. but we have been a band for close to 15 years. anyways, i'm only telling you because my band really is for musicians only.
I was getting ready to make fun of you before the video started, but you actually got me to watch the whole video impressed. Very nice!!! And I can see you're a lefty too! Nice work. You're right on cue!
Nice man! That was incredible! Im trying to learn this song on guitar. Maybe a future vid collab? Lol check out my Day Tripper Cover. Im not that good, but people say im pretty good.
actually, they had to get a drummer out of the audience bc km collapsed on stage from drugs and ultimatly had to replace him permanently bc km died from drugs
You remind me of my friend. He makes the wierdest facial expressions when he plays and he says that staring at one object in the room helps you focus more. But anyway, you rock. RUSH FTW
understad ya :D my dream was to play on drums or on a electric guitar. i concentrated on a guitar, but i realy wish i could play like that on drums... love them
THATS SICK man your hitting it like a pro! love that!! whys everyone talkin about drugs or sumthin, you just look like concentrated on playing, my friend looks weird when plays on drums :D
i really aprieciate the kindness! in some of my my bass vids i look wierder since i was straining my eyes trying to see myself in the little view screen on my camcorder; hehe
Actually I would give props. It is very hard to play with feeling when your going to a click or recording. And that was pretty much note for note! Real symbols would spice it up! Good job.
DRUMMERS DON'T BASH DRUMMERS BUT THIS IS FAIRLY AWFUL. The sound! Ouch! Electronic drums? What are those things? Plus, the deal w/Neil Peart and drummers such as Dennis Chambers is that they appear to going through the song effortlessly. Chambers is the best at appearing like it is no big deal and fun. Watch him playing with Niacin on youtube. Good effort here but I'm afraid it apears that at any moment the wheels are going to fall off. Clearly he has memorized the song but there is no feel.
Gadd, Shrieve, David Garibaldi, Chambers. I can play this song but it would sound like this. Terrible. High effort but all notes played. Steve Gadd barely brushes his drums and its like getting a massage. Bonham had it, Bellson had it, Manne had it, Marvin Smitty Smith and perhaps most of all; Joe Morello had it.Your assignment is to go out and get Dave Brubeck's 1959 album/cd, entitled Time Out. NOW. Joe will demonstrate feel. I believe he is blind, still playing and teaching to this day in NJ.
Sorry, I mean no offense or disrespect.. You have copied Peart well and you obviously know the song and Peart's style. The recording just sounds awful and you look all tight and stiff. Peart plays this with no effort. I was never one to try to copy other drummers. I had my own sound and made quite a bit of stuff up. My strong point was a fast single bass. You are right those drummers don't play this staccato style, (perhaps abrupt is a better word) and filling every bit of space with a drum fill
to me, the more one can copy and emulate different styles the more versatile and able to come up with parts for originals. fast bass drum work always fascinates me. have you ever heard leonard haze's single bass on the 1st album 'yesterday and today'?
I was in high school when I used to go see Y&T. They were simply a bar band back then w/a loyal, medium sized Bay Area following. Haze was great & that foot was amazing. The first 2 albums were the most interesting. On Struckdown he had a wicked fast single bass. I must have seen them 4-5 times & then they signed a big deal & went in a more pop direction. I saw him w/Rock Justice as well & soon after I was briefly in a band w/their singer. Haze, apparently is quite the musician & success story.
the 1st time i saw them was across the street from alameda high school. someone told me he was fired from y&t bc he was a bumling alcoholic. years later i went in a little bar on park st. to use the restroom and haze was jaming with some players i didnt know. i told my date who was waiting in my car "one of my favorite drummers is playing in there!" but she wouldnt go in since its a bar; so we left. did 'rock justice' do any albums? what about you; do you have any vids of you with the singer?
Rock Justice was an obscure San Fran rock opera & Jennifer Hall was the singer.. Wasn't really a band. The band I was in was called TOYBOY & we rehearsed in Sausalito near The Record Plant. Jennifer was sexy but ghetto & crazy. Primadonna. We played a few clubs in Marin County. It didn't last long and I was the youngest by far (17-18). The only real talent was the bass player Joey whose father taught music at College of Marin. This was 1981, so we didn't even have a demo let alone video.
I make those same faces when I'm taking a shit. Seriously though, you have a unique style which would probably be enhanced by an acoustic kit. Helluva job - BRAVO!
Next time you comment it would be nice if you had an ounce of knowledge to go with the post.
Drumming "over" another drummer, in a recording, without headphones and a good monitor , and without a metronome, is nearly impossible to play with perfect timing. It's going to waver.
if you think im in pain here, wait till i post cygnus x1 and xanadu! haha i noticed if i get a song down and then stop playing it for a few days or a week and then play it again it seems everything's more relaxing and natural and im not trying so hard to remember everything and not make a mistake. part of my problem is i never totally got over stage fright and being on video kind of simulates that feeling of sheer horror.
Nice drumming man, keep with it. Only criticism I have is that, it looks like you are really uncomfortable while playing. So much so that is kinda looks like you're in pain, lol. Try not to be so rigid while playing, get comfy and try to be more fluid.
thanks, i comb my hair and 10 minutes it looks like i just woke up. from watching some of my vids i can see just how much im stating to go bald anyway.
Nice! Good luck uploading any new vids. I tried to upload 4 today and they took off all but 1 immediately. I like the fan, by the way, kind of makes it look like the drumset is moving.
wow, i dont know whats making me more ill, youre kick ass playing or that you said they took off 4 of your vids the day you put them up! what were they of?
Well thank you. The videos were La Villa Strangiato, an updated Black Dog, and 50 Ways to Leave Your lover. I sent a letter to the copyright department, though, cause I think that these videos qualify under the fair use policy.
wow, i can understand maybe copyright people having a problem with just posting naked songs but if people are just using the sons as backing to play their instrument with why on earth should they care? i wonder if they do it to musicians who dont play as good? theres only 1 copyr. dep. for all those songs? whats the address?
WEll, if you've ever heard of astrotama or pauliewanna, they have tons of rush videos and are both very good and they do it to them. You just have to go to youtube's copyright page and they show you how to do it.
