I've used Norton Internet Security for over 10 years on my succession of computers, except a few years ago when I purchased a new laptop and decided to go with something different...I decided upon ZoneAlarm, being that at that time, it was rated to beat out Norton, BitDefender and some of the other competitors Absolutely nothing but problems from the start! Good or bad, it's been back to Norton...I've learned it's better to deal with the devil you know, than the one you don't!
Norton is just annoying. It's like a control freak of the programme world. It will not take no for an answer. I just turn it off in task manager every time I start the computer up. It keeps deleting files that I need! I don't care if the file is a trojan seriously, can't I just open it without intervention and then do a full system scan to clear out any trojan that was 'installed'? Apparently not.

Hahaha! Those were my sentiments of Norton a few years ago. However, the company has come a long way in resolving most of the complaints people have had with their products. Even some of the harshest critics of Norton have reviewed products like Norton Internet Security and have praised it for its level of security and minimal system footprint.

Actually, what Norton does is its software lets you acquire a virus, malware, trojans etc. When their product fails and you need support you need to pay them at least another USD 100 without any guarantee they'll succeed in restoring your system back to its proper state. It doesn't stop there. If you decide to uninstal and unsubscribe they'll try to latch on to you with spam email and even POP-UP warnings!!! Excuse me isn't this what malware does???

I've been using Spyware blaster to block Vicious/Malicious sites and even hunting them down on my own and blocking them (Which ironically a few came up in a "Google" advertisement, coincidence? Or is google trying to mock people since most know them to be Spies?)

I heard that Norton 360 v 4.0 is probably the most improved antivirus program and much faster than the previous versions. I'm getting a new PC with a 15-month sub for Norton 360 v 4.0. Will I have any problems running it on a high-end PC? Will it slow down my PC at all? My new PC's specs below:

For me, norton 360 version 4 is the antivirus program, next to it would be a toss between eset smart security, avast internet security, and avira premium. 3rd would be Trend Micro Internet Security and PC Tools Internet security. 4th is Vipre. 5th I guess would be AVG.
norton 360 isn't that bad if you get the premum or professional editions and constantly update it and add to it some other specialized symantec software.
Actually, I used to think norton was a peace of crap, but then I tried norton 360 v4 and I was surprised about what I found, I have used f-secure, Bitdefender Total Security, Kaspersky Internet Security and seen well over a couple of hundred reviews of security solutions for pc (don't ask me why) and tested the ones I have said and a couple more, and norton 360 v4 were the best of them O O. It has rock solid protection, updates every 5-15 minutes (very often) and it's very very light on you pc!
Ok... If you want to keep your PC Safe... Get Microsoft Security Essentials... It doesnt bog your system down with a bunch of shit. It's free... AND IT WORKS! Hell, it works better then the shit you pay for. So Leo.. I salute you...man of genius...

we bought norton 360 for $20 on a black friday sale probably for such a low price because its garbage, but i would say that a free downloaded antivirus like AVG is better than norton.

@amalthea25 pretty much everything about it sucks: it's as slow as a turtle, it decides from out of nowhere that some file you made is a virus, etc, etc. IMO you'd be better off with AVAST security, free version. As a Comcast customer, I had Norton for free for awhile until I got tired of its BS and uninstalled it, and downloaded avast. Still, IMO you should also download Threatfire security program also and perhaps Ad-Aware or SpybotS&D for your anti-adware campaign.
@amalthea25 So, truth be told, you need about 3 programs for a complete PC security campaign. If you want to pay for a good security suite (which, as I said, is IMO incomplete without a behavior-based program like Threatfire and an adware-remover like Ad-Aware) then at least get Trend Micro or McAffee or Kapersky and leave Norton alone. Symantec *should* dig itself out of the security software doghouse, but for now, they suck. And this is Norton 2010 I'm talking about.
@amalthea25 The best thing is to read online reviews from professionals. I work with computers everyday and there are always reasons why people complain for certain products. For ex, people complain that Norton slows down their computer, yet they are running like 1 gb of ram.
Ive tested on multiple computers that programs like Yahoo Mes. take way more memory than Norton for example. I was restoring a friends computer that has an A/V but didnt detect anything, yet Norton did. So research..

Norton 360 is such complete shit. I've fixed a lot of computers, and Norton has caused *FAR* more problems than any viruses have. Hell, I've even fixed a pc that got a virus while it had Norton on it.
I have G Data that Microsoft recommended when I installed Windows 7. It works great. I've always found that Norton uses a lot of resources. G Data works just as good or better than AVG.
im making alot of money from norton 360... no not selling it... fixing or restoring computers that have been screwed up by this product. Ironically I get more computers with 360 problems than those with SmitFraud Fake Antivirus progs!

Its two days later, and now mysteriously my Norton works fine. WTF, does it not update on weekends ? It was Friday late night I updated it. When it would work. I woke this morning. Now its fine.
IT NEVER INSTALLED THE UPGRADE CORRECTLY. CALLED NORTON TECH AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD ASSIST.
They remotely accessed my notebook.. claimed the program was installed and running properly. A few hours later I could not boot up my computer, went to a back up, but strangely UNABLE to connect to INTERNET. They could not figure out why things happened that way. MORONS. Finally after spending hours with useless tech support on fon, I had to reformat my entire HDD, REINSTALL VISTA AND ALL. HORRID
Norton 360 is horrible. I had it bundled with my Toshiba Satellite operating 64 bit Vista. It kept insisting any way to be installed.... UNREAL. Used it for a couple of months.. then decided to upgrade to 360 v3... I

@amalthea25 pretty much everything about it sucks: it's as slow as a turtle, it decides from out of nowhere that some file you made is a virus, etc, etc. IMO you'd be better off with AVAST security, free version. As a Comcast customer, I had Norton for free for awhile until I got tired of its BS and uninstalled it, and downloaded avast. Still, IMO you should also download Threatfire security program also and perhaps Ad-Aware or SpybotS&D for your anti-adware campaign.

@amalthea25 So, truth be told, you need about 3 programs for a complete PC security campaign. If you want to pay for a good security suite (which, as I said, is IMO incomplete without a behavior-based program like Threatfire and an adware-remover like Ad-Aware) then at least get Trend Micro or McAffee or Kapersky and leave Norton alone. Symantec *should* dig itself out of the security software doghouse, but for now, they suck. And this is Norton 2010 I'm talking about.

@amalthea25 The best thing is to read online reviews from professionals. I work with computers everyday and there are always reasons why people complain for certain products. For ex, people complain that Norton slows down their computer, yet they are running like 1 gb of ram.
Ive tested on multiple computers that programs like Yahoo Mes. take way more memory than Norton for example. I was restoring a friends computer that has an A/V but didnt detect anything, yet Norton did. So research..

Norton 360 is such complete shit. I've fixed a lot of computers, and Norton has caused *FAR* more problems than any viruses have. Hell, I've even fixed a pc that got a virus while it had Norton on it.

I have G Data that Microsoft recommended when I installed Windows 7. It works great. I've always found that Norton uses a lot of resources. G Data works just as good or better than AVG.

I've been useing Norton 360 for over two years and It's been the BEST!! AVG does not come clost!!! Back in the day norton had some real SUCKING PROGRAMS and since then they have rewritten their software and came up with some OUTSTANDING PRODUCTS, Don't knock it till you have really tried it. Since 1980 I also have been building computers and know whats out there. GO WITH NORTON 360

FYI Leo Laporte is a long established tech journalist, who does a weekend radio show. Frequently asked question on the show, 'I can't get on the internet', nearly always it's Norton causing the problems.
Get rid of it, install a lightweight antivirus like NOD32, Avira, Avast. You'll be amazed at how much better your PC performs.

IT NEVER INSTALLED THE UPGRADE CORRECTLY. CALLED NORTON TECH AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD ASSIST.
They remotely accessed my notebook.. claimed the program was installed and running properly. A few hours later I could not boot up my computer, went to a back up, but strangely UNABLE to connect to INTERNET. They could not figure out why things happened that way. MORONS. Finally after spending hours with useless tech support on fon, I had to reformat my entire HDD, REINSTALL VISTA AND ALL. HORRID
