  • @BRIGGSandSTRATTONguy no? the thunder bolt blowers are supposed to be 6-8 PSI at 250 CFM.

  • Wonder how many CFM and PSI that blower puts out,,,, wow!

  • Ooooh yaaayyy!!! it sounds like a 4/5 port!!! :D

  • funky sound. id have alot of fun with something like that.

  • I need that to combat the neighbor's kids that do nothing but scream all day.

  • The Roots blower is definitely it. I have to use a strong leaf blower for my 1000B single tone sirenhead and although yours is two-tone, it's the gargling growl that the roots gives it. Nice!

  • I love air raid sirens. Am I weird?

  • Haha nope!

  • no not at all i love the sound but when the federal thnderbolt used for the tornado alarm goes off in my small town it scares the hell out of me...lol

  • No you are not. I like sirens too;)

  • nope, your just another siren lover in the world who would do anything to get their hands on their own siren(s) :D

  • @msteven515 nope

  • @msteven515 no

  • Thats a big old motor.

  • where did you get that thonder bolt siren?because i all ways wantded one

  • @russelD9 i would be glad to sell you one for $700

  • nah but more people like thunderbolts dont they?

  • well whelens suck, and tbolts rule and gents...i like. but TBOLTS PWN ALL

  • Fuck you pardon my language but dude gents are ok but american siren are wayyyy better. SO STICK THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!

  • That's because thunderbolts weren't manufactured in Europe. I'll bet if they were, that's what they would do.

  • I believe so. It's the larger of the two types I've seen, and is mounted with the intake on top. (The B & C, I think, are mounted vertically so the intake is on the side.)

  • @kx250rider661 my T-bolt has the same blower

  • is this a series A blower?

  • Wow, is the chopper attached? I can't see it in the video.

  • It's all there, take a look in my other videos and you'll see more of it.

  • The Thunderbolt, especially this up close, sounds so much like someone dyno testing a Mustang.

  • that is sick sounding!! AND I WANT ONE.

  • there's nothing that'll stand the hair on the back of yer neck quicker than hearing one of these things in tornado country when there's nowhere to hide

  • actually an sth 10 sounds pretty creepy , but aut any siren sounds creepy in the middle of a tornado

  • nice demo

  • lol nice

  • The sound actually comes from a chopper wheel (A spinning wheel with holes in it, produces a whistling noise). This type of siren is unique because it is known as a supercharged siren. The roots blower is at the bottom, the chopper wheel and horn are at the top. If you look it up on wikipedia it'll explain alot.

  • Nice video. Never seen the bottom rotors in action. Cool!

Also, you must have some very understanding neighbors.

  • THANKS :) The sound of that roar growing and fading really makes the hairs on my neck stand up. That really is an awesome sound. I'll never take the sound of a Thunderbolt lightly. That is the 2-tone chopper, correct?

  • I've seen his T-bolt in person, it's a two tone chopper but on a single tone stator. He has another one stored in the barn at his ranch but it requires 3-phase power, that one has the two tone stator but a single tone chopper.

  • yeah i like the sound of it! lol

  • Thanks for sharing this!

I've seen a lot of tbolts in my life but it's rare to see the blower because it's usually hidden in a box.

  • Nice!

  • Kx250rider, I posted the video response I took the day I visited and helped you fix the rotator. Anyway, remember that transformer in the lower right of the electrical cabinet I pointed out with taps from 1-7. I was wondering if you could try changing the pitch of the siren for the upcoming Augest test. Think of a variac with wires you have to connect to different points on the transformer windings vs turning the knob.

I'm thinking of either tap 2 or 3 for a low tone.

  • Thanks for asking... The blower pushes the air up through the pipe, and then it goes through the chopper, which is in the big cylinder at the back of the horn (not shown in this video). The chopper is a drum with two rows of square holes, which by interrupting the air as the chopper spins, make the sound. Smaller sirens have vanes built into the chopper wheel to pull some air through, but the Thunderbolt is so much louder with the big Roots blower.

  • i put together a thunderbolt blower with a 5.7 leiter chrysler motor and hooked the blower up to the timing belt pulley and the rev limter on that motor is @6000. but i had to flip it off. i took the rev limiter off and guess what, it overheated and it seizes! i finally start it again and i blow it up. it still made 8076 rpm and 1300 horses!

  • I got it from another siren collector in Wisconsin earlier this year, and brought it home to California. In the next year, I'll do a paint & sheet metal restoration on it.

  • It's hard to tell on this video, but the motor is turning at 1725rpm, and since the roots blower itself has a smaller diameter pulley, its spinning at over 2000rpm (est).
