This is a medical condition that many people suffer from. It can be quite painful and people whom suffer with this condition have to go to the ENT to have their ears cleaned for them...fairly often. So for those of you that can use q-tips, be thankful as that means you produce liquid wax, were as this gal does not. It hardens immediately after it is produced. Be thankful it isn't you. OUCH!!

@bloodcoated117 Water, really. Just rinse out your ears in the shower. If you're really sure you need to, you can safely use hydrogen peroxide in your ear; have someone else pour it in and let it sit for 5 minutes or so (your head tilted 90º) and then rinse it out with water a couple times.

Dr. Janakiram, you might want to disable the comments due to mean spirited and racist remarks about this patient. I think it is morally compassionate to recognize that she is being treated for a medical condition and that sickening comments about excrement, food and sexual behavior reflect poorly on those making them. I also wish people wouldn't make cruel negaviet comments about the patient. This is a fascinating video and I hope that patient has not had a recurrence.

I am so glad you are here! There are many people who have major wax build up and see an ENT regularly. And you are right about QTips aggravating the problem - they just push the wax more deeply into the canal. There are different types and consistencies of ear wax and this is a product that the body produces naturally and NOT because someone is sick or dirty or lacking in any way. It is just a health condition that can be treated properly.

Maybe she has a genetic or medical condition that causes her to suffer from extreme wax build up. This has nothing to do with hygiene. The wax was so far down into the canal that she could not reach it herself. She NEEDED an ENT and it's a good thing she had one.

@demonpress Its not a freak occurance to have wax build up like this, it happens DEEP in the ear where you SHOULDN'T be trying to clean. Something as simple as sleeping on the side of your head in a particular way could cause the build up over time. This guy obviously had this for a very VERY long time. While regular cleaning does help a lot, its still possible for it to happen, nothing to freak out about. Most doctors get a kick out of doing these things.
