  • love your voice great. dave.

  • This vid is a favorite on Rome

  • This guy is like one of the best guitar teachers on youtube, no joke :D

  • top bloke. top lesson.

  • sir.... you are almost as beautiful as vincent

  • Hello Mr. Easley, just one quick question: Is this song in open tuning? Or does your guitar produce a different sound then a traditional acoustic guitar? Because my sixth string on the picking pattern doesn't sound the same as yours does. Any ideas?

  • Thank you very much sir! you are a good teacher.

  • tabs?

  • What notes do you play for the rift after the open send and hammer on second string, it's a little unclear to me.

  • @goldhat3 The good Lord has truly blessed you with talent. You are putting it to much good use by making listeners happy and helping dreamers realize their dreams.

  • I have no chance of doing the g chord with my last 3 fingers (too small hands, need to bend my pinky while keeping the ringfinger strait)

  • Not a bad singer I say.

  • Gonna go buy a guitar and will come back. Thanks a million.

  • thank y<ou very much. :)

  • how do you play a C minor?

  • can you please explain how to 'walk over' from the G chord to Em chord in the chorus...?

  • After watching this video, I have finally found a good guide on playing Vincent by Don McLean, the tabs I found online are rather inaccurate I found - I am hoping to purchase the Gibson ES-137 Custom semi-hollowbody guitar soon and I would love Vincent to be the first song I play on it (I wanted Vincent to be the first song I learned but Blackbird beat Vincent to it)

Thank you for this most excellent tutorial video

P.S. do you have a video on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"?

  • Thanks for the video!

Am I right to think that the picking pattern for the G chord is 2-3-1-3?

  • Great lesson, really helped me out. You have a very nice teaching style :-)

  • lol the old peter griffin

  • hahahahaha zjebane jak chuj pozdrowienia z Polski:P

  • Thank you so so much! This is one of my favourite songs and I could never get the guitar part for it before now. You are a brilliant guitar player and your lessons are so detailed, thanks again!

  • You went to fast and it would have been better if you could Zoom onto the Guitar and slow it down so we can see exactly what your doing and the strings your plucking in the order.

  • How about teacing American Pie by Don Mclean I want to learn it

  • hi m8 i have always loved this tune and you have brought me right next to playing it but i just cant make the picking patern work i know you have numbered the strings to pick but i just cant get it maybe its my timing could you help me.ive got all the chords and even the little slide.i can pick but i just cant seem to get this pattern could you do a close up of your right hand if you have time.thanks very much m8 well played.

  • That was beautiful, thanks for all your help

  • That was beautiful, thanks for all your help

  • Thank you very much. You are absolutely fantastic. And can i ask you, where has you bought this guitar or which type is it? I am looking for new one and this yours is amazing. So thank you very much and thanks for answer.

  • I've been playing this song since it came out and I've been playing it wrong. I'm still playing it wrong but now there's hope.

    Thanks!

  • you must be a scouser

  • Very nice. Thanks for this. You obviously love this song. I do to.

Now I cna play it as well as sing it :))))

  • Thank you so much for explaining this beautiful song so clearly - a delight to listen - maybe I will be able to sing along with you at the end after a few days practice!

  • Dear Mr Easley, Thanks a lot for the lesson!, you have made it so easy...I so wanted to learn this beautiful song...keep playing and singing :)

  • Hi, please could you cover a lesson on castles in the air , by Don Mclean. many thanks again Carl.

  • much appreciated sir Easly

  • I'll enjoy learning this one buddy, thank you for taking the time, peace and love :-)

  • I watched Don Mclean play this and it looks like he is playing a bar F after the c min and G . and he seems to be changing chords a lot more than you do. I have not tried to play this yet as i don't have internet access at my place, but I really enjoy your teaching technique and your keeping it simple and yet correct. Good job and please keep it up!

  • Excellent clear teaching.thank you.

  • great tutorial!! keep them coming :)

  • One word-beautiful:)

  • you got me lost explaining that 2nd riff but you play the song well

  • agree with your last commentator . I`m just getting to grips with this one and thanks to your good self thats been made easier

    Thanks Mark..

  • Dear Mr. Easley, I agree with "An Eclectic Music Fan" after wandering off to many sites in search of honing my skills. I find myself coming back to your site more often than not. This is not to take it away from all those that take the time to share their talent with novices such as I but I appreciate all of you and thank you from the bottom of my heart. You sir, do have the knack for making it easier to learn and I can only merit this to your experience and patience. Thanks! again.

  • @fhc11 and AnEclecicMusicFan: I appreciate your kind words, that's the reason I do it, to help spread the joy of playing guitar and singing.

  • @goldhat3 I'm a new fan. Recently retired at 58, I've discovered the passion of playing guitar and I truly appreciate your talent and the time that you have given to helping others. Thanks again!

  • Man, that was a Great Class

I was trying to learn by ear, but i'm a rookie.

    You're a great teacher!

  • Nice Job!

  • lemme tell you something Mr. Easley, you are one of the best teachers in YouTube. Thank You!

  • great... Nice to hear it done in time

  • He plays a little thing in the riff after the open B right before(2;08) the hammer on the 2fret and right after that too Who can tell me what that is I'd be appreciated

  • it's string players like you who teach us not to forget the past; Thank you.

  • I just realized this picking pattern (B-3-2-3-1-2-3-2) works very well for Don McLean's version of "Crying". Can use it all the way through. Thanks Goldhat . . . one pattern, two beautiful songs!!!

  • Mark, I never thought I would be able to play this beautiful song. But after carefully watching your instructions I can reproduce a somewhat recognizable version of it. Hopefully, with a little practice, I can build up my speed. Thank you so much for going to such time and effort for all of us who look forward to your lessons!!!

  • When the intro is played it seems to me that the B string is played twice for the hammer on 1st fret at about 0.09sec in the video. Does anyone agree? or have the correct finger pattern for this?

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the lesson although I don't understand the right hand word at the start. When you hammer on the B string first fret I can't seem to get the right hand right is it in the same format of 63231232?

  • Nice singing :D

  • I have only been learning a few months but like this very much I still cant get it all but am getting closer each time I try. Good job you don't live up my road goldhat or I would be badgering you for lessons.

    very nice

  • Your guitar lessons are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with such precision and patience. I'm a budding guitar player with sore fingers, I"ll be taking these lessons into my daily routine.

  • A friend wanted me to learn this, and you helped me pick it up in one night, thanks. Now I just have to listen to the original a few hundred more times to memorize the words...

  • Great lesson! Going to practice now. Thanks very much

  • thank you...gotta work on the picking pattern a bit and I got it! haha

  • Very nice lesson but it would help us beginners if you'd show which fingers you are picking each string with. It appears that you are using your forefinger on the top (A,D) strings, is that correct?

    Thanks!

  • Love this song..thanks for the lesson. Love your teaching style.

  • Thanks.

I have always loved the song, and although I have a somewhat decent ear, the bridge chords eluded me. To borrow a line from the song: Now I understand.

  • wow, thanks so much =)

  • Hey Goldhat

    You are a great teacher.

Love that blue guitar...Sounds great, must be a Martin.

  • An excellent lesson i was playing this in no time. Great teacher. After listening to the original again whilst playing i noticed and A major in the chorus before the Am7, right around 5:43 in the vid. on " They did NOT know how"

  • well done , great teaching , sad i am not a good a finger picker as you .

you make it look so easy.

    thanks so much

  • Thank you! I've been wanting to learn this song for a long time but could not learn it form Tab.

With you teaching it I can learn it finally :-)

  • Thank you so much for sharing the full version of this great tune along with teaching it in such a clear and easy to understand way ..... had a lotta fun learning this one ... it even got rid of a headache

  • Thanks pal you really helped me crack this one!!

  • I'm a beginner and a know like 10 chords but I don't know what 'Hammer' means, could you please explain it to me? Thanks.

  • owen it means you slam your finger down on the fret without picking it

  • How do you know my name Alastair you rapist!

  • Mr.Goldhat, my compliments for your video's ! You must have noticed that a lot of viewers has problems with the intro, wich isn't according your explanation .Please make everybody happy and give us the intro step by step.Greetings from Holland.

  • good job very helpful

  • Thank you so much sir, I've really been wanting to learn to play and sing this song on my Acoustic guitar. You're a really good teacher.

  • Hey goldhat. I wander around yotube for weeks it seems and get no 'satisfaction' but I always come back to goldhat's pages. They make me feel 'at home' - hope you take that in the spirit it was meant my friend (or as we say in Ireland, mo chara). You may be the daddy of youtube to many. Long may your good work continue.

  • ok 1 more question haha what exactly do u do when your playing it open??

do u play (with right hand) 6-3-2-3-1-2-3-2 before u hammer the b string (with L.hand)

    thanx again

  • Is it possible that you can write down the openingriff? Maybe tab it?

  • so is the picking pattern 53231232 for every chord except G? and do you do the whole pattern every time for every chord?

  • @goldhat3 very good video, but whats the finger picking pattern for d7 chord, and also what tab is the d7 chord, your using, thanks very much. Dean.

  • thank you very much sir for all your guitar lesson, you are great teacher.

  • Great job by a super teacher. I love your taste in music, you pick such great songs to teach!

  • I can't figure out the opening riff between the hammer on on 4 & 3 string.

2nd open and then hammer on first, but you play more in between?

  • Hi, excellent lesson although i am just struggling with the picking pattern for the riff It doesnt seem to follow the 63231232 pattern. I could be being an arse, but could you please just confirm the full picking pattern for the riff. Cheers.

  • Got it....

    4 ham2 3ham2 2312 2ham1 312(withfret1)2312

    seems to work for me.

  • One of my favorite songs..Thank you so much sir..very nice job

  • Thank you very much sir for sharing this beautiful song. Your are great & may God Bless You always.

  • thanks alot. great lesson.

  • i think: First you hammer on 4th string second fret, then 3rd string second fret Then the tricky part you play the second string OPEN, Then you play 3rd string OPEN, First string while your fingers in G chord position. 3rd string OPEN HAMMER on 2cond string first fret (leave the finger on the sting then 3rd sting OPEN then second sting first fret (remember that finger you left? play it like that) Then you play 2nd string OPEN there you got it :) Riff :D
  • Thank you very much for your time!
