I agree. I did not know about this program that Special Olympics had for 'the word' . I have always loathed that word and correct people when I hear it. When i heard about the site I immediately posted it to all my social sites i visit. AND I HOPE EVERYONE ELSE DOES AS WELL :)
A wonderful cause? Making another word taboo is only going to make the word more offended. The best thing to do is to let it slide. It's not even being used to deliberately offend anyone with mental retardation. It's being used as slang.
Ignorance and immaturity is the only thing causing these people to be so offended. They're only putting this on themselves and because of this, a campaign is attempting to eliminate a word from everyday use, which is ridiculous.
