  • listen to 0:52 " this is the semens high voltage lab in berlin" lol wtf anyone else notice that?

  • I saw a video about 10 years ago live when I was watching a football game. the camera just happened to pan out into the parking lot and a car took a direct hit by lightening on camera. As soon as the lightening hit, the car essentially exploded and then caught fire.

  • 0:02 beinggggggggggggggggggg

  • Imagine went back in time?

  • Hes starting to raise the woltage...

  • hahahaha Richard Hammond's face at 2:38 :L

  • So what happens if the car is running when this happens?

  • Woltage? Really?

"Oh and thanks for letting us use your fancy equipment. Now I'm gonna make fun of how you talk."

  • ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS! =D

  • This video does not mention one of the most dangerous effects of lightening upon the human body. Lightning electrons produce a powerful electric field around it that pulls and pushes charged particles, like the ones around and inside your brain neurons. Such a field can accelerate these particles and misfire all your brain neurons at the same time, causing death. A car frame distributes the electrons evenly around the driver, canceling out the electric field, making one thankful driver.

  • OMG this happend to me !!! ive been hit by lightning in my car!!!

  • Anyone else catch on to the dood with the mustaches name... Adolph, i knew he resembled Hitler....Bastard

  • Would have been funny if the car started when the lightning was hitting it.

  • LOL, who the hell names their kid Adolf nowadays?

  • Well because it is a standard German name, they dont think about it when they hear it... If Eric Banner became a terrorist, how many people wont call their child Eric anymore?

  • @McBain86 lol ikr

  • @McBain86 His name is probably not Adolf, thats the jokes Top Gear makes all the time

  • @McBain86 my grandpas name is adolf lol

  • Guess I'm the only one that had the volume cut out about 2 mins in.

  • SHRYKULL

  • oh cmon that Siemens guy must be fake :). Noobody can speak english that bad... and what's his name.. Adolf, and he works at Siemans ? oh cmon ;)

Imagine the Newpapers if something went wrong. Adolf from germany barbecued british BBC Reporter in a Volkswagen with Blitzkrieg.

    PS: im german !

  • LOL @ 2:38 "woltage"

germans pronounce the V as W

  • That's backwards, w's are pronounced as the english pronounce a v, v's are pronounced as f's

  • @potatonoob that may be but he totally said "woltage" =)

  • it starts because the cas wasnt turned on while it was hit .. if it was it would have some damage .. but the driver would be ok .. and if it was raining it would heat tires more and they might explode, but still driver would pretty much live .. but car would not be able to go anywhere

  • your wrong some cars may fail but most new ones will be ok maybe just cut out then restart. There is one on here a woman in america driving, in the wet and gets struck. No exploding tyres and lost power for a little bit too

  • Hehe semen (siemens)

  • Mercedes oder VW??

Wat auch immer, deutsche Auto können Leben retten! ***** "Can SAFE YOUR LIFE"!

    Respekt, Mann...

  • to bad every centimeter of lightning is 10000 volts

  • whats that song playing while he's first in the car??

  • its the music from donnie darko if that helps

  • yay for Richard Hammond and top gear

  • fking amazing!!!!

  • I am more interested in whether they got the rights for the Donnie Darko music.

  • long live the vw golf

  • Its so frustrated!

  • Lol... its amazing physics. This is damn cool!

  • great mate

  • hahah did he say SEMEN'S Lab??

  • probbably sea men's... but it IS possible

  • Its SIEMENS Lab

  • WOW! So you are indeed same when a lightning strikes your car. That`s a releaf!!! I love Top Gear! Every show has something different and extrordinary!

  • fuck that.

  • "He's starting to raise the woltage." LOL

  • I love Top Gear tis hilarious!!!

  • like back to the future movie :).

  • If cars form Faraday cages then cell phones would not work within them. The car offers protection because electricity likes to flow from the metal roof through its metal parts rather than jump through the interior, but it is not a Faraday cage.

  • While I believe technically speaking that any car is a Faraday based cage of sorts, it is not complete, German or otherwise! You must first replace the glass with metal of some kind, then it could/would be complete minus the earth ground. However, atmospheric conditions may also provide the ground, thereby allowing the car to be struck in the first place. The car is still the safest place to be in an electrical storm. I am 'surprised' that it was still turn key drive car. Nice video!

  • But after, the radio is on the Fritz (4:40)

  • Face at 3:30 is priceless.

  • Hahahahahaha!!! I feel bad laughin' but yeh. (messed up though).

  • YES its Top Gear and yes its the Hampster and yes faraday cages work and as long as your car is made of a conductive material and it surounds you ,,that is you dont have a convertable with a soft to it WILL work.. oh i have worked with lightning protection for 25 years ...on Ameture radio antennas as well as building protection.

  • i would be so scared! holy shit yo!

  • ridculous

  • Lightning isn't around 600,000 volts though. It's more like 100 million. Who really knows what lightning will do to a car/human in that situation.

  • Path of least resistance.

  • Many cars have been hit by lightning. There have been no reported deaths due to lightning when the humans are in the car.

  • AMAZING!

  • This is Topgear. I know because I have seen this episode (and you can see in the beginning of the vid.

Dont get confused, though. Its the same guy in both shows.

  • is this show top gear or brainiac?

  • its top gear!!! you see it from the start of the video! it says TOP GEAR at the start

  • Brainiac, never know what they'll do...

  • Top gear...

  • i love top gear :D

  • woltage lol semen lol top gear rocks

  • It's not a strange thing and not from another world...isn't human technology... its physics...it's called Faraday's Cage, any car can do that, not just this one

  • There's no way that dialogue was filmed in the car at the same time as the current was running ;)

  • To panthersgold: Not even with a well shielded video recorder mounted inside the car? There's no need to transmit the video.

  • its not that....its the contrived nature of the reactions. I'll bet my hat it was filmed in two sessions, one with current, one without :)

  • @panthersgold

I was hit by a lightning yesterday while driving... and my radio didn't even turn off...

I'm seing these videos because of what happened...

    :)

it's just like that... you get all buzzy afterwards...

  • a car always was and always will be the best place to be during a electrical storm. But remember to be INSIDE of the car, better with the doors closed!

  • consider that, if the electrode emitting the lighting is posed in front of a window of the car, the person inside must keep a secure distance of a half of the window length behind the window. To measure the distances between the normal sitting person and the windows woult proove that a car is secure, this video doesn't proove anything.

  • Woltage, lawl! Richard Hammond! What a guy!

  • top gears fkin awsome!

  • lol the semens lab

  • this is awesome

  • german car ^^ of course its works ^^
