  • Imagine if Grace had left Kantner and the Airplane for Tuna....

  • i love this song. i was actually at the concert and upon my request he played it for me. Heaven opened and swallowed me as we all stood in awe.

  • Aw...shucks!!!.... the last great Jorma/airplane tune!

  • Tha nk you...steal your boorglish..... this is the airplane for me!!!!... in 89' !!!

  • hell yeah.. I love Jorma man.... he is so fun... followed the further in late nineties mainly for Hot Tuna.... Jack is a bad ass too....

  • Having only seen the "Bark era Airplane during their first go 'round; the '89 tour (excessive sidemen and all) was a gift I'll always treasure.

  • Jorma still looks great at 71 yrs. Anyone see how Grace looks these days. I didnt even recognize her. She is big into painting

  • hot fucking tuna, i remember this show. great performance, i love when jorma sings this song. i love when jorma sings any song. xoxoxo

  • Jack and Jorma, like peanut butter and jelly.

  • I saw them 38 times (starting in 1969) and I saw this their "reunion" tour 3 nights in a row SF, Oakland, Reno...this was a wonderful set...thank you for posting. As someone recently stated, it used to be that music was made to say something...now it is to sell something. Jorma, Jack, Grace, Pappa John, Paul, Marty...thank you for such uplifting beauty and art.

  • @EddieJJ remember the plane that flew over when they were in sf, I think it was greek theater in berkeley was so cool WELCOME HOME GRACE

  • 1st class lady... of course she remembers the lyrics....3rd week 1972 long john

  • Surprised she's rememberin the lyric

  • Ahhh, such memories. Even though I was too young to see them in their prime, I got to see them when they did this tour. this is one of my favorite tunes

  • I'm glad to see I'm not the only younger one listening to this music! I'm 17 and I just listen Jefferson Airplane every day! If I ever visit America (I'm from Holland) I go searching for Grace Slick.. would be so great to meet her!

  • @rickcoomans i'm from italy and i'm 13.

and I saw jorma kaukonen live and I love jefferson airokaen and hot tuna.

jorma autographed my volunteers CD too!!!!!

  • I saw Hot Tuna about a year and a half ago at the Aloha room in the Ala Moana hotel in Honolulu. Still kickin' ass

  • Beautiful song. Sad. Bittersweet. But uplifting because a door is closing forever, not to be replaced by inertia but with a purpose, a new direction, and hope. It's something most of us don't do enough of in this life.

  • Jorma is the best Jefferson Airplane member!

  • i was at this concert, it was one of the highlights of my life. jorma is truely my idol. i have been in love with his music for as long as i have been into music. he is my favorite musician to this day

  • I loved that tour. Ill advised maybe for some but to me it sent shivers to have this band together for one last time. Great stuff!

  • Be sure to see " Crown of Creation" from this show.....

  • Jorma and Jack were far and away the saving grace of this largely ill advised reunion that I saw in Chicago and Milwaukee. Jorma and Jack were something quite like religious, per normal. During the Airplane did they have 2 extra guitarists and whoever that guy from Indiana is, his drummer, sorry, not Airplane worthy, why they could not have a go with strictly original people, and the then living though allegedly addled Skip Spence I donno.

  • @tullist @tullist Skip Spence left after the first album, the same time Grace joined. Spencer Dryden was the drummer during the classic era. According to Wiki there was still some bad blood over earlier business dealings, but I thought I read at the time that his health was too frail to join in the reunion.

Joey Covington was the drummer on the later albums, and I'm not sure why he wasn't called up.

  • I was at this show. It was an Airplane reunion, but it was all about Jorma and Jack.

  • im 17 been listeing to JA since i

was 14 and man how i love them.

i love this song its simpley beautiful.

i would give my left tit to see them

    preform (jk)

  • @bluefromanairplane

17!!??, maybe 18 by now? Wow, you are a GODSEND to be inspired by this music!

I thought I was a "Johnny Come Lately" in 1979!! Bless your pointed little head. We need more enlightened chillins like you!! Rock on!!! Expat Joe (46 yrs old) from Bangkok.

  • @yumpladukfoo haha yes im 18 now and trust me its hard finding

people my age with awesome tast in music such as myself haha but i did

and they are the bestest in the world (i know you prob dont care but

i just felt like saying it)

  • at this show grace finally had to face the reality that jorma had outlasted her and kudos for grace's balls to sing jorma's explanation for ja's end

  • Jorma wrote this song about feeling unfulfilled playing with the airplane! Listen to the lyrics and the the time the song was written. God bless Hot "F"Tuna

    still playing today.........

  • great so great.. in 1980 i lived 6weeks at the chelsea hotel and worked mornings making salad at the roxy roller rink, and scooped ice cream at 2 sisters icecream parlor on 9th ave.. oftentimes sid and nancy would come by on their way home to pick up a shake and a cone . this brings it all back...

  • one of the most honest songs written about life on the road. I had the pleasure of being at this show, the last great gasp of an amazing band.

  • I would give anything to have just one more Jefferson Airplane album. *sigh* This song touches so deep

  • Maybe the JA's greatest song--and inarguably the ONLY post-"Volunteers" tune that's worth a damn!

  • Well, I'd argue differently, but you're entitled to your opinion.

  • Hey, don't forget "When The Earth Moves Again," "Rock and Roll Island," "War Movie," "Mexico," "Wild Turkey," "Have You Seen The Saucers?" and "Eat Starch Mom."

LONG JOHN SILVER is pretty dubious, but BARK has some of their best cuts.

  • simply excellent!

  • This from the Airplanes reunion tour 1989, I saw them at Saratoga Performing Arts I'd say with in a few days of this show...Hot Tuna opened the second set and Grace joined them for this song...Hot F"""ing Tuna!

  • IF ONLY I COULD LIVE TO SEE THE DAWNING OF THE DAWN....

or rather if i could live only for that! To see the beauty, in the world and my fellow humans.... I haven't changed much inside since this song came out.... when i was 13 !

    LOVE TO ALL

  • I WAS IN THE FRONT ROW! This was unbelieveable to me at the time... I couldn't believe it was happening and I was there. LISA WHERE ARE YOU???

  • what a sexy special guest!

  • having seen this exactly once 18 years ago, its so wonderful to be able to have this on hand. thanks for posting and thanks to youtube. jorma gets the last word on the airplane - paul's out in space, marty's gone surfing, grace figures what the fuck, jack carries on and spencer leaves them wondering...

  • What a thrill. Grace said it real well. Hot F#n Tuna! I was at that show. Jorman came to life at that point of the concert. Good Sherpard was also great to hear with Grace Paul and Marty backing Jorma. Jefferson Airplane was it for me as a kid.
