I liked seeing the "B1B" pass "Mach I" when the plane passes through the sound barrier and get to a place before the sound originates. Congratulations!
@DarkstarNovembr - B1B aircraft passed the sound barrier at the 1:00 minute video. made a cloud around it. viewed from the side looks like a cone, this cloud is an obvious sign that he pass the sound barrier.
@Caetanoven no that wasnt the lancer breaking the sound barrier, cause if it was why was there no sonic boom? that was just caused by the air condensing as the B1 pitched up. the cloud isnt an obvious sign, the sonic boom is, the cloud isnt always there
@Caetanoven That is not breaking the sound barrier. All that is is pressure condensation forming. had the B-1 broken the sound barrier you would have definately heard the BOOM and they are big with a B-1.
between 0:54 and 1:00 the pilot was almost breaking the sound barrier. If he had his display would have come to a quick conclusion. It would have been terminated. Speeds, height and Crowd line distance. A Mig-29 from Hungary was instructed to land during his display as it penetrated the 250ft height rule when he came out of a loop. On my VHF radio i heard ATC say 'Fulcrum 1 Please land' the pilot said 'Can you give me a reason for this please?' ATC replied 'You will be informed after landing'
@whitewingsrich maybe....but why is it that everytime somebody sees vapor trails coming off of the wings or fuselage, they automatically think the aircraft is 'breaking the sound barrier'. I have seen many a time when a jet would fly by at speeds slower than 500 mph, and vapor would trace the aircraft. perhaps it was just a bit more humid in that part of the air????
@JFDhater you can tell if its caused by breaking of the sound barrier or if its caused by condensation / humidity in the air. If it is caused by humidity or condensation it will only show where there is little air (thats why condensation trails always go over the tops of the wings cuz there is little air going over the top of the wing) wen its speed the air cant make space quick enough 4 the aircraft which is why sound barriers always ring around the entire aircraft not just over the top of it
@JFDhater dont forget air travels at different speeds over different parts of the plane its self, so some places will get a build up of faster flowing air causing the vapour to be seen :D

Are you not aware that near-mach passes happen at air shows all the time and this was intentional? He was not "about to accidently break the rules" as you implied.
@y2kcobrar I know NEAR mach passes happen all the time. I never said it was breaking the sound barrier i said it almost broke the sound barrier. At any airshow, be it in the UK, America or any country on the f**kin globe, there is a strict 0.97 mach speed rule. With the low heights aircraft fly at airshows if any aircraft was to go past that, break the sound barrier and cause a sonic boom it could cause serious damage to things on the ground in the area near by vans, tow vehicles or fuel trucks
you want the power of the B-1? search "B-1 Lancer High speed fly by" and it should be the first video on the page. this should be the first sentence in the description

RIAT show at RAF Fairford, UK 4 or 5 years ago, right at the end of the show on Saturday I think. The guy on the tannoy is Derek Liddell doing the Airshow Radio which starts immediately after the show commentary has finished.
A few years ago we had the cahnce to actually climb aboard a B-1 at Dover AFB,DE...could only take a quick peek at the cockpit, but very thrilling nonetheless....the Lancer is a tremendous aircraft....some have character, some are rather sexy...the B-1 falls into the latter category...character-wise,I'm sure you can all agree with me when I say the B-52 takes the cake on that one......but the Lancer is an incredible machine...glad Mr. Reagan decided to bring it back....we sure need it!!

They had guards posted all around it so nobody was allowed to take close up photos of it.
We were allowed to walk and look all we wanted to beneath it with bomb bay doors open no touching though.
If they want to run an extended range mission they could mount an extra fiberglass up inside it in bomb bay rack and then drop when empty prior to dropping the ordinance.
the fuel tanks they mount internally in the bays cannot be jettisoned during flight, Iwas a weapons load crew member on em for quite some time, impressive planes thats for sure.
is not invisible to radar, its designed to fly low to aviod radar detection, maybe electronic counter measures, but invisible to radar?? its desing is not stealth
It is not stealth, however it does use stealthy features, for example, radar absorbant material is present on every external part of the plane but the glass and afterburners. the plane often flys with no external payload which also reduces radar sig. It appears MUCH smaller on radar than it actually is, and given the unusually high cruising speed, and low production numbers, it gives command some neat advantages! =)
If I could own any aircraft in the world, this would surely be it... What a beautiful and graceful work of aerodynamic art and superiority. Every time I see this thing fly I have to smile--especially watching it do a roll or vertical climb. The thought that this huge aircraft could be so nimble and effortless is amazing!
The SA6's would have been knocked out by FA22's, B2's, and cruise missiles before the B1 would even be allowed over the airspace. If B1's are flying overhead it can generally be assumed that their is little risk to them. Countries don't generally waste high value assets like this lightly.
the SA-6 has a maximum altitude of 20,000 feet. the F-22, B-2 , and B-1 all fly higher than that. The F-22 and B-2 are invisible to radar, so you can't track them anyway.
That must be SO LOUD. I've seen one at a show and it was insane. We were in Charleston, so it took off, went to Alabama for another show, then came back and landed.

The Russian Tu-160 program started in 1972, with a final design in 1973, the first flight was december 18, 1981. So the Russian Tu-160 is the copy. The B-1A was faster than the Tu-160, but the 4 that were built are not in servi
No, it was not... It was a copy of the old XB something named Valkyrie that never became anything.... That goes for the ruskie-airplanes too... The Valkyrie was cancelled, but this was introduced on the experienced earned from the Valkyrie and the ruskies? They did what they did best: Spying and copying... Just like the Buran. (Russian space shuttle)
You're refering to the North American Aviation XB-70 Valkyrie which was capable of sprinting at speeds over Mach 3, and was canceled by then Secretary of Defense Robert MacNamara (genius who gave us the Edsel) on the basis that the Valkyrie was too expensive and ICBMs were much more cost effective. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20...
Yes. But this was the inspiration for both the TU160 and the B1. The XB became too expensive, but they gained a lot of knowhow from that that was put into use a little later. That's why the XB eventually became the B1. It is off course wrong to say it was a copy, but even the TU 160-program was a result of the XB70.
Yeah I love the XB70 but I believe it was a more expensive way to deliver any given amount of ordinance if something approaching air superiority was present. B52s are cheap when you can just cruise over and drop stuff. The sort of missions in which you would want to penetrate heavily contested airspace would often be part of a dooms-day/world war scenario that ICBMs were meant to deter. Plus SAMs go to the point of being an issue. That might have been the thinking, anyway. Different age, huh?
With the modern era of ultra small bombs and heavy competition, I think UPS would be the best way to deliver an all out nuclear strike on the enemy. Just send them all out with guaranteed next day delivery by 10am with their timers set for 10:15. leave all the B1's at home, and you have WWIII over for the price of 1000 suitcase bombs delivered UPS at a cost of less than 20 grand. :)
re UPS - he he he. Classic. I want the 90mins back that it took to watch that Zohan movie but in that vein, I can just see you calling them and getting the menu, "To deliver infinite justice to the infidels, press 1. To shock and awe some taliban, press 2. For all deliveries of small parcels of white powder, press 3. To track the progress of your parcels , press 4....."
Dude, you need some serious reading and researching. Won't maintain a supersonic cruise? The only aircraft out there that can do a supercruise is the F-22. You don't cruise on afterburners buddy. You run out of fuel fast.
u have to be kidding me. that is a supersonic bomber, the g's he pulled in that climb being subsonic would have been perhaps 2 to 3. that thing would be capable of mare than that by an order of magnitude. learn about aviation my friend before oyu start making accusations
it make santence man let me see if i get it straight if no vapor cloud ring its make it faster and if it did happen that the person wont servive ( i just wanna learn)
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing...looks exactly like it. I would like to know as well. I have seen the B1 perform there at least 4 times over the last ten years. Awesome plane...amazingly loud and powerful.
If the Russians EVER came up with their own ideas, it would be a surprise to me. I love how they made exact copies of the B29 they captured from their "ally", U.S. during WW2... sheez
Shortly after the B-1 came into service the Russians revealed a plane, the Tupolev, that what frighteningly similiar to ours. It caused quite a shake up at B-1 installations. We did not copy them.
I've been to over a dozen airshows since I was a kid and the B1 was, by a landslide, the most intense experience of all. Nothing is louder and it's size to manueverability ratio is amazing.
B-1B is expensive, but it pays off for its maneuvering, payload and its low to ground stealth (which is good, because its a carpet and dive bomber), and its supersonic -speed, wow and I'm only 11 and I know more than these people!

slarmas 2 years ago 38
re UPS - he he he.

@slarmas You sir have possibly said the most creative thing ever on YouTube. Congratulations. The B1B is so much more sexy than a 747 though.

@slarmas and just kick it out the door right? no need for any military avionics or countermeasures.

Dude, you need some serious reading and researching. Won't maintain a supersonic cruise? The only aircraft out there that can do a supercruise is the F-22. You don't cruise on afterburners buddy. You run out of fuel fast.
Eddie32100 2 years ago
the Typhoon can super cruse too.....

Are you shure? On altitude 1,2 Mach and B1B holds several FAI world records for speed.

You realize the whole point behind things like air-shows and such are to bolster interest in the military and thus bolster recruitment, right?

u have to be kidding me. that is a supersonic bomber, the g's he pulled in that climb being subsonic would have been perhaps 2 to 3. that thing would be capable of mare than that by an order of magnitude. learn about aviation my friend before oyu start making accusations

i like when it make cloud
nightxwingjedi 3 years ago
you mean vapor cloud ring around it? it means it was near speed of sound about to break barrier but it pulled up so it didnt go any faster
kevintsai 3 years ago
it make santence man let me see if i get it straight if no vapor cloud ring its make it faster and if it did happen that the person wont servive ( i just wanna learn)
nightxwingjedi 3 years ago
Do a youtube search for sonic boom or sound barrier. When an airplane breaks the sound barrier, it makes that vapor cloud. It won't kill the pilot.
MisterSithy 3 years ago
i'll deffintly look at it

It does not always make a vapor cloud. It just depends on the moisture in the air

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing...looks exactly like it. I would like to know as well. I have seen the B1 perform there at least 4 times over the last ten years. Awesome plane...amazingly loud and powerful.

In my eyes the B1 is the best US military plane, and it somehow looks as if Rukies developed it. Just look at the Tupolevs 160 and 120.
halomolim 3 years ago
the b1 has been in development since the 60s
and entered serive in 86' the tu-160 enetered in 87', so it looks that way but the russians have a history of copying western design
darkskyak1 3 years ago
If the Russians EVER came up with their own ideas, it would be a surprise to me. I love how they made exact copies of the B29 they captured from their "ally", U.S. during WW2... sheez

got that wright.... dam russians -_-
04hanky22 3 years ago
Shortly after the B-1 came into service the Russians revealed a plane, the Tupolev, that what frighteningly similiar to ours. It caused quite a shake up at B-1 installations. We did not copy them.

I've been to over a dozen airshows since I was a kid and the B1 was, by a landslide, the most intense experience of all. Nothing is louder and it's size to manueverability ratio is amazing.

I live by Ellsworth Airforce Base the US's largest b1b and b1 lancer airbase
I can watch air shows like this from my house and i've seen over 250 b1 lancers and b1b's fly by
me8825 3 years ago
I wouldn't say largest. Shit, there the only two bases with B-1B's and Dyess and Ellsworth have about the same number of jets.

lol mr. simpson was going to by a B-1B but Lockheed took it and put a gun to his head saying "Tell them you lost it or we kill you. No B-1B."
When you go to an airshow you talk about the airshow not a credit card dudes.
