I am so glad that I own 4 GM vehicles, had two fords and both sucked, I am not serious! People stop picking on the domestics! The real enemies are Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Kia, Hundai, and Subaru!!!! I may drive General Motors but I don't bad mouth Ford OR Chrysler. Remember December 7, 1941!!!
@Lanche2004 i own a chevrolet and a mazda the fact is america lost the edge when they started with the loss of quality control it's a fact japan builds better cars they last longer and there less to maintain i like fords better then chevy i have had them to and i have owned chrysler my barracuda could out run my mustangs the chrysler engine was superior over them both years ago chrysler made the best engine in the world japanese cars are not the enemie poor quality from u.s. cars makers was
It is amazing to see this, only 4 years after WWII was finished and they were already doing these things...bet the rest of the worls was looking at this as if it was from outer space...
These cars were just dog-butt ugly............amazing how much they changed and vastly improved just a few years later. Now cars just completely lack any style at all.
These are really attractive cars, except - in my opinion - for the thick chrome "eyebrow" above the front wheels on some of the models. That's always looked clunky to me.
I'm so proud to own a Ford! No bail out money. The only domestic car in the top three reliable cars of 2009. The only domestic car to make a profit this year. Stock increased 200% in less than a year. Tough luck GM and Chrysler!
@supermoto804 It has not always been so. You are, of course, talking about the only company that managed to lose money on cost-plus government defense contracts during World War II. That took some incredibly poor management! Also, let's not forget that for about 20 years, say 1932 to 1952 or so, Ford Motor Company was the world's 3rd largest auto producer, behind GM and ,yes, Chrysler. Henry's refusal to pay patent royalties also meant Ford was usually last to adopt new ideas and innovations.
Cadillac was founded as the "Henry Ford Motor Co". Ford was forced out by his financial backers, and the company was taken over by Henry Leyland. Leyland renamed it Cadillac Motor Car Co, but it nearly went bankrupt, and was acquired by GM. Ford started the "Ford Motor Co", and Leyland started the Lincoln Motor Co. Leyland went bankrupt a second time and Lincoln was acquired by Ford.
@Cruentus1 Henry Leland's Lincoln Motor Co. got into trouble when the government suddenly cancelled huge orders for aircraft engines at the end of World War I. Henry Ford then bought the ailing company, mainly so he could kick Leland out of it. Vindictive man that he was, Ford had harbored a grudge against Leland ever since Ford was forced out of what became Cadillac nearly 20 years earlier.
I would love to own that car today.
It would turn heads.
By the way, there was nothing cheap in those cars.
They were solid and would go right through any car built today.

Interesting to hear that the Americans back in '49 pronounced 'Coupé' like the Europeans.

@richardcwood1 I remember the V16, you could put a Nickel on the air cleaner with the engine running, the Nickel would never move.

Hardly. GM is a collection of once independant name plates. Chrysler, the man once worked for Oldsmobile.
