  • I love you oboe, actually I've a new Marigaux, but I hope someday to have yours.

  • Amazing! :D But why does the reed look all jacked up compared to the regular reed placement in a regular oboe?

  • Thank you all for your appreciative remarks!

    Best,

    Althea

  • You played beautifully and love the sound of the oboe d'amore. I don't know what piece yet but I was told recently that I will get to play this instrument very soon. Excited!

  • oboe d'amores are so adorable :)

  • you never answered my question, Hahaha, what key is the Oboe D'Amore pitched in , is i concert C like oboe , O in some odd key like.....A. Hhahaha no offense to the Cors etc. in A.

  • Really beaufiful! So glad you introduced us to this piece, too. Should that be an E flat at the end of bar 43? Anthony. (Fellow Brit who studied with Camden, a bit with Craxton, and then did not play full time, but went into teaching biblical languages).

  • What is special about your Marigaux oboe? I have heard that the sound is dark. Is that right ? Loved your playing of the d'amore. I have a rigoutat oboe, d'amore and cor anglais. Anthony (also at youtube, salut d'amour, playing at home)

  • wat key is the oboe d'amore in ?

  • @emoemoemo13666

The oboe d'amore is in the key of A.

  • Very Lovely. Is that by chance a Howarth Oboe d"more? I have an XL oboe and EH and considering the d'more. Beautiful beautiful sound.

  • It's actually a Loree, as is my cor anglais. My oboe is a Marigaux.

    Best wishes,

    Althea

  • GLkamina121 Playing a double reed intrument is hard but they are really fun to play. It doesnt hurt to try one.

  • are double reed instruments really hard to play? I play trumpet, would picking up a double reed not be a good idea?

  • @GLkamina121 i would actually try it , i play the flute , oboe cor anglais(english horn) , piccolo, clarinet , etc. ,: and doulble reed instrumnts are AMAZING!!!!

i would highly recommend it , you might get small to moderate headaches(MIGHT!) from the swich of needing air.. to needing air pressure, but their SOOOO worth it , take it from me , i'm addicted

reeds can be a bitch though , unless you take immaculate care of them and can find them fairly cheap , so yeah.....good luck, it's worth it

  • @emoemoemo13666 yeah i picked up the flute a little while ago, and almost passed out here and there lol! i starting to save up for an oboe or english horn, have'nt decided which i like more yet haha, at this moment in time, the problem i have w/ double reeds is that I can't find anything for under 3,000$s ! i've found for less! my trumpet was $500 n it's a pro trumpet! n i am a tightwad MAJOR ! oh well, i really want an oboe so ill dish out sthel thousands!

  • @emoemoemo13666

Actually, I find that trumpet takes more air than my oboe does, especially when playing high notes. And reeds are WAY better if you can make them yourself. It's much cheaper and you can adjust them to play how you like them. Store bought reeds are often too brittle, soft, and thin to do much of anything with. Of course, making reeds is rather dificult =[. I'm not too good at it, but it just takes a lot of practice.

  • @GLkamina121 AND! learning cor aanglais after learning oboe actually helps your oboe playing tremendously(typo)

  • Beautiful playing! I have yet to write for this instrument, but I really love its sound. I haven't known anyone who has regular access to one, unfortuantely, But I do write a LOT of music for heckelphone! I live that instrument. :-) Where do you live? I'd love to write an oboe d'amore piece for you! -Adam

  • Yes. The oboe d'amore plays in the key of A. The lowest note is the concert G# below middle C. The instrument was used a great deal by Bach in his various cantatas, passions and oratorios. It also crops up now and again in some of the French C20 symphony orchestral repertoire. Telemann also wrote two concertos for it, and of course there is the famous A-major concerto by Bach.

  • sounded very nice. I've actually never heard of an Oboe d'amore. Is it between an Oboe and a Cor Anglais in pitch?

  • Thank you very much!!

  • Where is possible to buy de music?

  • I bought the music at Howarth's. The shop's full name is T W Howarth, 31 Chiltern St, London W1, and the phone number is 020 7935 2407. You can also order music online via their website.

Enjoy playing it, and thanks for your kind remarks.

    Althea
