Hope never should have been released from prison....but I have to have faith that God will have the final say... She will suffer consequences later in life or after she passes away. @zilazz Yea, I seen her on Dr Phil when it first aired last spring. Hope searches out these psychologists types because they show her sympathy. There was one in Indianapolis who had a radio show she wrote to. Hope would post her return letter as if it was a medal saying she is a good person now. I think she is full of it.
Hope Rippey now works for Sleepy Hollow Pet Ranch in Indianapolis. She's the one spraying the glass cleaner on Shanda, and poured the gasoline on her to burn her to death. She is the director in charge of pets there. You should all google Sleepy Hollow Pet Ranch review sites and let the public know that a child murderer. Or, just call Sleepy Hollow and ask to speak to Anna. She only goes by her middle name Anna now there just to trick people. Ask Hope (Anna) what it is like to kill a girl.
@mainstayer1 Their associated with the reentry program there, other inmates have worked there as well, they get paid for it. The program itself has good intentions but Hope was given special consideration because of her high profile crime. Teresa Black of Sleepy Hollow did post somewhere that if anyone had a problem with Hope working there they should call her…so, you post is not that far off from what she encourages.
I have read tons of true crime novels but none had the effect on me that cruel sacrifice did. I have no idea why this story touched me the way it did but it did. Shanda is never far from my mind even to this day and maybe its because we were so close in age. I love your work and would love to talk to you sometime and ask you questions about all that you have learned since. @diamond40631 Her parents did NOT know Shanda was involved with Amanda in that way. Also, one of the desk clerks at the motel told me Hope’s grandfather checked her in when she was released, Hope later told me it was her father that checked her in.

@japanesegirl1995 Shanda's parents knew nothing about her relationship with Amanda, when they found out they moved her to another school. Amanda continued to persue her and even used Melinda's threats to stay in contact with her. On the night Shanda was killed, Melinda called Amanda and told her she was with a group of girls and was going to kill Shanda...Amanda did nothing to help Shanda, like warn her Melinda was on the rampage.
Well, I saw parts of the Dr. Phil episode and let me tell you that I didn't feel empathy for Hope Rippey nor pity for her. I didn't believe any word of regret she pronounced. It looked like for me she went to tv to clean her act and that was it: something she had to do, however, it didn't work.
This is my second time watching this. Glad you pointed out the inconsistencies in the girls story from the autopsy report. I have been haunted by this case for years. You did an excellent job. I would love to see more videos from you!
@WitchontheRocks Yea well…there is even more to it than what is in the video, like the fact that Shanda was more than likely forced into the car. Coarse they will never admit to this as it would show them in a much more unfavorable light, and mess up their parole or early release…and they way people think of them now. As for another video…prob so. But this one will have to do with the reason Hope was released early and why Melinda attempted to.
@FullMoonVideo I agree...the dog being out, the door being left open and her lack of a jacket, I believe too that she thought Amanda was in the car. Also forensics found what was it, limestone on the bottom of her feet? She must have stood at some point either after the girls opened the trunk to get her out or after she was set on fire. We will never know for sure. If these girls had done this here in Texas, they would have gotten life.
@WitchontheRocks I think Laurie and Melinda took Shanda out of the trunk and stood her up at some point during that ride down Rt 62, or on one of the side roads since most are gravel. And must have done something so brutal that they want no one to know about it. Not so sure they would have received a life sentence even in Texas since being female has no doubt affected they way they are perceived in the justice system. prob would a gotten life if teen boys.
@FullMoonVideo Yea true...my niece stabbed someone to death when she was 15 and she is currently serving only 20 years. Her reasoning for doing it was, "I dunno"...but then again a 16 year old girl out here bashed her father's skull in with a baseball bat because he wouldn't let her date some boy and she got life without parole...I really all depends. We never will know the entire story.

@japanesegirl1995 According to Toni in Jennifer Furio’s book, "Letters From Prison", this happened out at Lemon Rd. So Laurie, Melinda and Hope were all near Shanda when this happened. As of yet none of the these girls admitted to it or told on the others so it could have been anyone of them. I think it was Melinda. The only pic’s I have seen of Shanda’s autopsy is in the "Cruel Sacrifice" book.

Jus out of curiousity - whats your take on Shanda's mum saying she thinks that Amanda is not only part to blame but equally to blame - I understand the grieving but do you think that is a bit harsh?

Shanda’s mother placed her in another school and got her away from that crowd, especially Amanda, Amanda used Melinda’s threats to keep Shanda in contact with her. Shanda very well may have thought that Amanda had information about Melinda when she walked down her driveway to talk to her, and was than abducted. So by default, Amanda does share some responsibility for this with her head games…there is more, much more,

My view is that maybe she is partly to blame - ( I don't know the story well so I can't really say much I guess) but I just thought saying she was just AS MUCH to blame - maybe not far behind them but I can'y see how she was equally as much to blame . Couldn't you have tried contacting their lawyers or probation officers first if you can interview them? This is the first time I heard about this case. If Diane Zamora & David Graham, Barry Loukitis, Michael John Anderson, Scott Dyleski, James Degorski, & Juan Luna can serve life sentences for murders they committed when they were teenagers, then so should these girls. I'm sure Shanda would have loved to have a little baby of her own if she had became a young woman by now.
@Chumsly All though years before I always knew this story would make a good video. It was a spur of the moment decision to stop there as I was traveling further south. I mostly planned on shooting video of the locations and MAYBE talking to Toni. I thought Hope was still in prison and had no idea Melinda was trying to be released. I also found out about Steve Sharer while there, amongst other things.
well...i think i may have printed up Melinda Lovelesses page. need to find it, and her exact quote. a webpage stated "THIS GIRL HAS A FAN CLUB" and then at one point the loveless GUESTBOOK was the only thing left. it said 'comigns oon" and even Melissa states "I am ashamed...I live with the pain everyday...I lost my father, I can feel how shandas mother felt" but her prison photos state something different. HEr trying to get sentenced reduced wont work!!!
5:09 Hope Rippey wont talk here but she did on DR PHIL & Rippey walked out of prison in 2006. She now goes by the name Anna.She is now a registered violent offender/sex offender and is photographed every year. She no longer smiles when the the pictures are taken.

@qt632 The prosecutor was going for the death penalty for Melinda and Laurie…Hope and Toni were to young at the time to qualify for the death penalty. But they did qualify for life in prison as to why Hope cut a deal. Toni was least involved and became the states witness as why she only received 20 yrs.
It is nice to know that so many people are as moved by Shanda's story as I am.
I can't wait to watch Shanda's family confront Hope on Dr. Phil!

@ThompsonJJ I was in a situation when young where three of my friends broke into a grocery store. I told them they were stupid and left. Though not the same as this case there are a few differences from Toni’s situation. One, they knew I would not rat them out, and the second that is much different than Toni’s situation, even if I did decide to rat them out I was the toughest of the four and would have kicked their asses if they messed with me or my family.
Respond to this video...But I do remember even younger days and the kids one would never rat out, as they would get retribution. Jump you at night, or destroy your property. Thank you so much for making this video. I first heard of this story when I was watching a special on E! Television about brutal crimes a couple of years ago. This will always stick with me.
In some ways yes, if Hope had not been so infatuated with Melinda and wished to impress her, and if she had not been picked on at school she may not have felt the need to align herself with Laurie and worship her, she just may have been able to wrap her teenage brain around the enormity of the situation and stopped it, or not participated at all.
One thing is for sure is her lack of compassion, nature or nurture is the question there.
Thanks, my only wish is that many young people see them and should they find themselves in a similar situation they will think back on them than make the right decision and not participate, or call for help once it starts.

I happen to think that you did an awesome job. It is not like reporters can get any further than you did when it comes to someone talking to them about something that was pure evil. I am sure if a regular Joe Blow would have approached her if she won the lottery she then would have alot to say. Ppl don't realize that regular citizens have help solve plenty of unsolved crimes. Because we have more time than law enforcement to get all of the facts it is a good thing when ppl do things.
To hear that Hope had the balls to be rude as though she is entitled that right is absolutely absurd. You make great docs. A good tip for the next one would be the Jessica Dishon murder in Bullitt Co. in Kentucky. Maybe you could solve this unresolved case. Put your great research skills to work to undercover a cold case. Her murder has been a great mystery in KY for years.

There was one in Indianapolis who had a radio show she wrote to. Hope would post her return letter as if it was a medal saying she is a good person now. I think she is full of it.

The program itself has good intentions but Hope was given special consideration because of her high profile crime. Shanda is never far from my mind even to this day and maybe its because we were so close in age. Amanda continued to persue her and even used Melinda's threats to stay in contact with her. On the night Shanda was killed, Melinda called Amanda and told her she was with a group of girls and was going to kill Shanda...Amanda did nothing to help Shanda, like warn her Melinda was on the rampage.

Coarse they will never admit to this as it would show them in a much more unfavorable light, and mess up their parole or early release…and they way people think of them now. Also forensics found what was it, limestone on the bottom of her feet? She must have stood at some point either after the girls opened the trunk to get her out or after she was set on fire. We will never know for sure. If these girls had done this here in Texas, they would have gotten life.

And must have done something so brutal that they want no one to know about it. As of yet none of the these girls admitted to it or told on the others so it could have been anyone of them. I think it was Melinda. The only pic’s I have seen of Shanda’s autopsy is in the "Cruel Sacrifice" book.

Shanda very well may have thought that Amanda had information about Melinda when she walked down her driveway to talk to her, and was than abducted. Couldn't you have tried contacting their lawyers or probation officers first if you can interview them? This is the first time I heard about this case. If Diane Zamora & David Graham, Barry Loukitis, Michael John Anderson, Scott Dyleski, James Degorski, & Juan Luna can serve life sentences for murders they committed when they were teenagers, then so should these girls. I'm sure Shanda would have loved to have a little baby of her own if she had became a young woman by now.

But they did qualify for life in prison as to why Hope cut a deal. Toni was least involved and became the states witness as why she only received 20 yrs.

@ThompsonJJ I was in a situation when young where three of my friends broke into a grocery store. I told them they were stupid and left. Though not the same as this case there are a few differences from Toni’s situation. One, they knew I would not rat them out, and the second that is much different than Toni’s situation, even if I did decide to rat them out I was the toughest of the four and would have kicked their asses if they messed with me or my family.

As a sort of dedication to her me and a few of my friends are going to her memorial site and putting down flowers because she wanted to be 13 and i think she was only in 7th grade. Because we are graduating 8th grade i thought it would be nice to go to Indiana and put down some flowers and lay the tag from our graduation caps on the site to symbolize that even though she didn't finish 7-8th grade she still graduated and mad it to the next level

I needed the weather conditions in the background, street signs, and the front of the building. In some ways yes, if Hope had not been so infatuated with Melinda and wished to impress her, and if she had not been picked on at school she may not have felt the need to align herself with Laurie and worship her, she just may have been able to wrap her teenage brain around the enormity of the situation and stopped it, or not participated at all.
One thing is for sure is her lack of compassion, nature or nurture is the question there.

Nice work all around. I wonder what either of those two would say or think if they saw this. In a way, I can understand the hardness of the two of them. After all, it cannot be easy to live in a community where everyone knows who you are and what you did, even if those actions are long in the past. The whole thing is tragic for all concerned, no matter which side or party. The wounds of violent crime cut deep into so many people, not just the victim itself. Once again, very nice work.
