Back in 70's and 80's I went to his show whenever he was in Reno/Tahow. Once, as I was waiting to go in, 3 little old ladies came out of the show. They were so pumped! I asked how he was...They replied, "Honey, we had forgotten they made men like that."

He was awesome. His voice is unbelievable. This video is GREAT! Thanks.

I can tell which album it came from if you like.  I have all of them. He has many gems like this in his albums that never got air time on radio stations. His sexy image, and standard hits aside, many of these obscure recordings buried deep in his albums showcase what a truly magnificent singer this man was in his prime, and still to this day.

Yes, I have that album, and you are correct---"My Yiddische Momma" is a magnificent song. When he sings it you get the sense he is singing it to his own mom. That entire album is chock full of wonderful songs.

I concur. I always regarded the crotch gyrations and rhythmic gesticulations as amusing but ultimately distracting and demeaning to his essential vocal talents. Jones is one of the truly great ballad singers, matching exceptional lyric interpretation to exquisite delivery. He could have been one of musical theater's monster talents. They could have built entire Broadway shows around him (ala Jolson). But alas, like Presley as well, he was diminished to largely forgettable pop tunes.

Unfortunately, the temptations of super stardom proved to be intoxicating. The result was an exceptional talent lost in the mire and muck of pop entertainment. My take on Tom Jones with regard to his "sexual image" runs pretty much along the same lines of your commentary. Tom Jones, to me, was all about "the voice" and I found his gyrating moves on stage as unnecessary. However, clearly the ladies would not agree. Nor would his early manager Gordon Mills. Bottom line: Tom made his millions. Management knows more than we do. The song in this post, I KNOW, showcases with great effect Tom's incredible, dynamic voice. Cheers!

OMG! I have been looking for this song for years! I first heard on his old TV show when I was a kid and my Mom was CRAZY for Tom. This sounds just like he sang it then, soooooo much better than the original that was on the album she had. Perfection!
