Please don't spend money on this product until you do some research. Anytime a turbine sales person says their turbine produces power at wind speeds less than 10mph they're talking about powering a couple of LED's. The reason is simple; the impact of the wind powers wind turbines. Very low speed = very low impact = very low power. You can't fool mother nature. Most well renown turbine manufacturers don't include <10mph windspeeds on their spec sheets.
Of course the folks commenting above are probably in the good old US of A. Here in J-world, land of the earthquakes and no energy resources. Electricity goes for 28 cents per kwh and the government pays you 2 times that for excess energy produced. Yes, you heard me. You can sell energy at 2 times the price you buy it. It's called a REAL incentive plan people. Unlike the US where anything we overproduce is just a gift to your power company. Can you say too much lobbying influence?
How come no one has mentioned how truly hot Sara is? Anyway, for me the real money savings comes not from reducing my electricity bill, but from reducing my heating bill. Heating with Propane is expensive. If I can cut heating costs by half in winter, I'll save probably $600-$800 per year. I agree roof mounting is dumb, but the alternative is pretty invasive too. The pioneers get the arrows, the settlers get the land.
Axial flux wind turbines are the best turbines available i see a few people sell them Ebay always has a bunch of differant wind and solar products.Axial flux is great for low wind areas and they dont need 40 mph winds to give alot of power.
Am I missing something? A "NESS-ell?" The word is "nacelle," pronounced "nuh-SEL." I swear Americans cannot pronounce a word in French with a gun pointed to their heads. That's why McDonald's sells "crescent" rolls instead of "croissants."
No, I'm not French. I am of English ancestry. That said, it would not kill us to at least try to pronounce foreign words correctly.
As far as the turbine goes, when the thing generates 5 kW consistently, give me a call.
@PrestoWind They're not saying that they have changed the laws of physics. They're saying that they have taken the need for a gearbox out of the equation. That is in fact a source of friction and reduces the efficiency.
If you understand what goes into wind generation, you'll know this. You might want to research this a bit more.
Their 2011 brochure says it will do 1500 kwh/yr which is 125 kwh per month which is $15 per month saved at 12-cents per kwh. So the $10K upfront cost will only take the owner 55 years to pay off. Oh joy. Thanks Honeywell! Truth be told, the 1500 kwh per year is most likely overstated too making the situation even worse. Good God.
actually some of the turbines have whats called. Cut in Speed, which is set to not cut in until a specific speed. They can adjust this and ofter do. This is used to prevent bird and bat deaths, maximize power output and control overall power. Also, all of the larger wind turbines have actual breaks that they can used and are for normal maintenance. .Lets talk about ground turbulence.everyone "thinks" they have great wind, normally wind is too inconsistent and erratic to produce CONSISTENT pwr.
@billymacomb I was thinking the same thing. I'm assuming most of the cost is in the grid tie inverter system. This turbine doesn't look overly costly to produce.
I don't see your market. Probably bias, but in NY at 22/kw, this toy has some cons. (1) there is less energy at slow speed (2) wind swept area (the wind collector) is small, (3) most turbulent air is near roof (think waves of air crashing at the side of the house), this turbulence lowers the lifetime of some of the components, (4) too many blades causes more of the wind to go around the unit, (5) The wind direction might be coming from the side which would not spin the blade, (6) expensive
15% of home energy is still a 15% lower electrical bill! All you have to do to get 100% home energy production is buy 6.6666666666666667 wind turbines...
The technology for this stuff is still new, give it a chance!
Don't you think working on this is better than relying on Middle-East oil or having to deal with massive oil spills?
Sarah. Have you been able to find out more on the HOA rules? Trilogy, a community in Rio Vista, CA is an excellent location for your wind turbine. (Several large commercial wind turbines have been installed nearby. Rio Vista regularly has Class 6+ winds). Installations must first be approved by HOA Board.
What nonsense. Should be criminal what these charlatans are peddling. I wouldn't pay $600 for this piece of crap.

yeah it's massively overpriced. I like green energy, I don't like greed hitching its wagon to it
