Maybe not popularity, exactly, but success. A big enough fan base that they can continue making music. You can claim that popularity is lame, and it can be, but if a band doesn't make any money they can't afford to keep making music and they are forced to stop doing it. It's hard to have a day job and be able to promote your music.
Also, it's kind of selfish to want to keep music all to yourself. If you were a true fan you'd want everybody in the world to hear it because it's just that awesome
@RoboticMilkshake Actually this band has been broken up for a number of years... I know many of them did side projects after this band, but none were as successful as Five Iron Frenzy.
