  • By far one of the best in my Roots playlist

  • you got more ? because that's what we want !!!!

    peace from slovakia

  • Lyricism at it's finest!!! Bad Lieutenant off of Snyder Avenue!!!

  • Truly untouchable!!!!! I Dare another rapper to touch this!!!! Black Thought goes too fucking hard on this track!!!! It's The Roots!!!! Nobody's fuckin' with em!!!!

  • Warning: Dope-ass rhymes are contained in the above song. Viewer discretion is advised.

  • i was about to sing the beenie man song who am i at the start until i realised it was the roots lol

  • @CoolCumber187

    Lol word. Which came first?

  • this is real hot!

  • bkbkbkbnkbnbnbn,bblhbbjhbbbjhjhbjh

  • Came here to remind myself that hip hop wasn't always as miserable as it is now. It's a shame that I forget that sometimes.

  • Illadelph Halflife is my favorite Roots album -- by far. It's smooth, dark, jazzy, hardcore, very chill, & has unbelievable flow and lyrics....and of course actual live instruments are being used, as always.

And for some reason this album was pretty nostalgic the first time i even heard it.

Don't get me wrong though, i love all their other albums, especially their other old stuff like Organix, DYWM and TFA.

I wish these videos had more views....

  • bump your head.

  • nas and the roots are both top notch. originality, technique, lyrically, intellectually. also, rakim was mentioned. there were others mentioned, but these 3 are the ones that jump out as the legitimate top hiphop/rap artists. not puttin others down, but these 3 are comparable with each other and not the rest.

and being able to play instruments isnt their best strength. it makes them actual musicians. they are one of the major innovative groups of recent history

  • Can i get a shout out to all the brothas stimulating the mind, fuck Lil' Wayne, he be wasting our time!

  • they kinda sound like mobb deep in this song

  • so is big l, he ripped "went to hell for snuffing jesus" off of nas, sad people don't know real hip-hop but based on popularity they draw conclusions of supposed supperiority.

  • busta rhymes is fucking garbage.

  • nas lyrically destroys half of the artists listed, ill take it you're new to hip hop.

  • Damn, I forgot how nice Black Thought was/is on the mic!

  • tune gives me damn chills all over!!!

  • la meilleur musique de tout les temps the root = the best of the worlds:)

  • this is sick man!

    -erika

  • The Roots are not part of the diluted rap scene; they are a total and complete sentence and a scene all by themselves. Don't compare them to Nas; give me a break. Illadelph Halflife: a true original work of art. Time will tell...

  • @eldudereeno77 why you downplaying Nas fam lol. The Roots are a legendary group but Nas is the GOAT..

  • @jose4891 I'll take Illadelph over Illmatic, which to date is Nas' best work in my opinion. Both are true originals, but as far as the actual music goes, The Roots take a backseat to absolutely nobody in Hip-Hop, ever...EVER. As far as rhyming skills go, I'll take Black Thought over Nas, Aesop Rock over Nas, Rakim over Nas, Metaphor over Nas, GZA over Nas, Redman over Nas, Big L, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Percee P...I could go on a bit further, but I won't be disrespectful. I'm a Nas fan.

  • @eldudereeno77 I respect your opinion fam but you're really coming off as delusional, talking like your word is the rule. I mean you just said to me, that Aesop Rock, Metaphor, Redman, and Bustah Ryhmes were better than Nas. Sorry but there isn't an arguement that can be made to support that. I'll agree, the Roots don't take a backseat to anyone music wise, but that's a pretty comfortable statement to make don't you think, since their forte is their live instrumental band.

  • Nobody in hip hop has the unique sound of the Roots. This album in #1 all time for me because the Roots made a fuckin hardcore album without samples just nothing but great instrument playing by Questlove and the other members of the band.

  • its 10 mill do ya listen, ya violate or get a ticket, emcess ya cant tell or wexpel ya get evict, from outta misery!!!!

  • that opening is sooooo hard

  • A yo, the purpose mainly is to generate the Luther Van

Lyrical contraband, controllin your command and...

  • Man this is real nostalgic. Reminds me of when I was 4, chillin' in the back seat at night as my Dad drove through the wet streets of Chicago

  • @TheTKCreborn nice one. This reminds me of my first year after dropping out of school....lazy summer dayz, chocolate thai and the roots....aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Best Rap/Hip Hop Albums

    1.The Roots-illadelph halflife

    2.Outkast-Atliens

  • @nicklong1981 illmatic, me against the world????

  • @kennboy1 those are just overrated

illadelph halflife and atliens are much better than them

  • @lyricsfromsweden No, not really, MATW, Illmatic, It was written, Liquid Swords, etc are all legendary hip hop albums. I doubt those two albums are better.

  • @kennboy1 actually they are, you'll see in a year or so that you will feel the same as us, trust me

  • @lyricsfromsweden Its been a few months and it's the same way, this doesn't surpass illmatic or me against the world.

  • @kennboy1 - Yeah, I have to say that "Illmatic" and "Me Against the World" are not only two of the greatest Hip-Hop/Rap albums ever recorded, but one of the greatest albums ever made. Period.

  • @nicklong1981 liquid swords?

  • yeah

  • Idk ....Illadelph was insane but Doyouwantmore is still my alltime Roots LP

  • This here is hip hop in its finest. Take note today's artists, this here is how its done.

  • classic album

  • How I feel about these artist who kept true with their musical creation within the art of Hip-Hop during the past 15 years?Teach kids what real music is when it comes to hip-hop.Kids have had hero Emcees that are not MCs and had favorite rappers that only have talent in rhyming words. The game has been controlled by High Powers since the beginning, but I know who are the true artist.Teach about the true Rappers and Emcees with real talent and flavor to kids.To Hell with most of 2day's Radioplay.

  • Probably one of the most complete albums ever!

  • LEGENDARY RAP GROUP

  • Just bought this album randomly, thinking... "Man, I need to pay these dudes something." Good choice. 5th Dynasty killing.

  • @hhhaaaccc IMO this is their greatest album, not only with this song, but also "What They Do" and many other legendary tracks.

Easy to forget that some critics panned this when it came out. What the fuck were they thinking? Also, for all the talk in the hip hop community about appreciating conscious hip hop, the album sales never matched the praise. Maybe this is why they are reduced to playing house band for Jimmy fucking Fallon. No respect...

  • "The MISKalaneous"

    Malik B is the man...

  • THIS JAM KILLS IT

  • @3:50 for the 610 shoutout

  • only 22,611 views? WTF is going on?

  • TOP THREE OF ALL TIME REDMAN,BLACK THOUGHT,AND EMINEM

  • SO HIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH <3

  • Tune!!

  • I'm crooked like the I on a toxic malt liquor, the land whipper, the Dom Perignon champ' sipper.

  • Black Thought got verse of the month/ hip hop quotable in The Source magazine I remember for his verse.

Well deserved.. matter of fact he should get one for all his work.
