its really hard to play on bass. harder than it is on guitar cuz the basse's longer fretting. and u have to do this chain reaction of 1 to 3 to 5 on two strings. pretty hard to do as fast as the album

Seriously man, how can you tune a 4 string so low? I've tried but it's just way to low, it just wobbles and sounds crap. Did you change to thicker strings?

Yes, I took very thick strings. And you have to switch down the high frequencies because the crackling sound, which is generated by the loose strings on the fretboard, has very high frequencies. Good luck!

@Mcdoglam you know u can put a B string on a 4 stringed bass and take away the G string, u get 5 lower tunes and loose 5 higher. Theres often no need for using a five stringed, so in moste case u only get a wider neck ( it might be easier to play some tunes since u dont need to move your hand that much) but it ussually works fine. peace :)

@Mcdoglam I actually talked to peter a few days ago regarding string thickness for best sound. My idea was to remove the G string from my 4 stringed bass and put all strings down (B instead of E and so on). Anyways, peter recomended me to go with 120 if u play by fingers or maybee 130 if you use pick, For B string that is. Hope this helps!

Hey man im just starting to play bass i have been playing guitar for a while (5 years) but do you have any tips on developing a good finger picking technque?

mmh...

1. by all means i would learn to play with two fingers right from the beginning.

2. i find it easier to play bass when you put your thumb on the pickup and not on the E-string or in the air

3. play the ionic chart up and down and then try to get faster and faster and overleap strings: for example: from E to D, from D to G, from G to A, from A to D,...and so on. You will get the feeling how far the strings are away from each other.

4. On youtube you will find a lot of videos with tips and techniques

5. practice makes perfect!^^

Another tip: When you have a little technique try to put the thumb in pickup, E or A string depending the string you play, you can reduce the noise of others strings while you are playing only one

(Pickup for E & A//E for D//A for G)

More difficult but for recording or playing sound that u need a very clean sound helps a lot
