I am right now reading David Harvey's 'A Brief History of Neoliberalism' in which Harvey lays out the histroy of the so-called "free market" revolution that has defined economic life in America and the world since the 1970s. That the two men in this video parrot Fox News sound bites about a "free market" and unregulated business "fixing" America's economic ills speaks to the efficacy of conservative propaganda more than it does to any understanding of actual economic history.
Whats fucking hilarious about this is that their movement (old bitter racist people) was enough to squash the "Hope and Change" "movement of progress" not more than 2 years ago that Obama brought forth. LOLOL
Our health care system in the US is the best in the world because some rich foreigner can come here for some special treatment if he's rich enough to afford it?
If they can't afford it? Oops, haven't thought about that. Let them die since health care is a privilege and not a right.
Ahhh think of the glory, and prestige this nation would have with Steve or multiple Steves at the helm. The thought literally brings a tear to my eye.
Oh shit, socialism. Because countries with socialised health care systems are doing so badly: Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Denmark... yep, wouldn't want that. Seriously America, learn the facts.
If Government did not have the ability to intervene in corporate dealings then large monopolies would still be rampant and over priced and workers would still be receiving company credits instead of cash.
they said America had the best health care when all the studies show it is the worst of all 1st world countries.... they must never get sick because as a person who has the best health care ins, money can buy,,, I can tell you..... health care in this country SUCKS! Even with Blue Cross blue shield, I have to wait weeks to get an appointment, they do a shit load of un-necessary tests, shuffle me from doctor to doctor until I end up getting well on my own without any treatment.
These guys are probably the two smartest tea baggers I've seen. They could actually name other countries and their leaders. You're naive if you think healthcare will be all awesome and no bad. It's got good and bad, just like the no healthcare plan. It's a question of the role of government. It's ok to like healthcare and recognize the problems with it and vice versa. Don't form opinions, cultivate facts.
I love the generalizations. "take our government back" "government too big"
Do these people realize that the federal bureaucracy expanded most under Bush? Coupled with Bush-Iraq massive deficits? Where the hell were these people 8 years ago when Bush was pushing the same government super-bodies ruled under "tsars" etc.
The entire tea party movement is the brainchild of bat shit insane glenn beck. And the amount of people showing up illustrates how profoundly stupid and sheepish Americans are.
@biggboiXL Obama (Our President?!) uses the derogatory term “tea baggers” to describe those of us who support minimal government. Has an American president ever been cruder, viler and less civil to his constituents?
When the President appears to condone the NAACP’s racial name-calling, actively opposes the American people, and continues to act as our least civil participant in the national debate, how can he unite America?
What an ass wipe these tea faggers they had a people movement until they started giving Sarah Palin oral sex. Then the peoples movement became a bowl movement. Those two guys remind me of dumb and dumber. I have no paticular love of government but those two guys would drive Hitler to become a monk.
@armalabama Newsweek reporter heard and reported Obama’s usage of that vile term, which was brought before his press secretary, who could not deny Obama uses that vulgarity.
I would like some of the tea party ideas more if they werent so heavily influenced by the religious right and republicans. Associating themselves with people like Sarah Palin justs hurts their credibility. I do however dislike the high taxes we are forced to pay in this country and dislike governments attempt to overstep their bounds.
@ExposingTheGOP Obama’s political strategy is to racially polarize the USA by rallying his black base who are tacitly used to demonize hundreds of millions of white Americans for opposing government’s seizure of the healthcare sector of our economy; And at the same time, Obama has been pandering for the Latino vote while opposing (actually in-your-face suing) the 70% of Americans who support the rule-of law for immigration and anything else. Obama has divided us by race.
Finally a sensible position. I can understand the concerns of these guys. I disagree with them, but this video a good balance to the clowns I've been seeing here.
@schamley Obama's debt commission -"This debt is like a cancer that will destroy the country from within. . . We could have decades of double digit growth and NOT grow our way out of this enormous debt problem. We can't tax our way out. . . We've got to cut spending or increase revenues..."
@islandmuffin@islandmuffin I don't really understand what that quote means (you've sort of literally taken it out of its context) but if what you're saying is that money is the problem? don't worry, america has trillions of dollars surplus... its just that they choose to burn it on a violent organization that violates the human rights of countries around the world.
How did two white males... living in the wealthiest country in the world, with access to free education and many other advantages that the majority of the world lacks, who have no apparent physical impediment and who've been obviously well fed... become THIS DUMB?
these are good people being told that something of theirs is being taken away by Fox and Rush that spread disinformation for profit and we're left with their irrational fear focused on things that ultimately would benefit them their families and American society as a whole
the shame of it is I feel bad for them being thrust into public ridicule while at the same time mocking their lapses in logic just too easily influenced by those with a financial stake in keeping status quo
initially, it is clear that they have no grasp on the economic situation, but it turns about 2:30. The government doesn't have the right to prevent bonuses, whether or not they are right. Also, their bit about the welfare state creating dependent citizens has some validity. While 95% of Americans without health insurance are hard workers (some working 2 or 3 jobs), socialistic programs always carry the risk of dependency. Just because they aren't political scientists doesn't mean the're dumb
The risk of dependency? Well 45,000 Americans without health insurance die each year for lack of affordable health care, often from preventable diseases. I've spoken with many Canadians and I've several friends in England and they laugh when I ask if their health care is a awful as it is made out to be on certain "news" stations. These two are idiots regardless of any accidental sense they might have made for a moment. I think the risk you mention is well worth taking.
for the record, I am a proponent of universal healthcare. The point I was trying to make was that these men can't be dismissed as "idiots" just because they dislike big government. While one could certainly point out that the American corporatocracy poses a much more dangerous threat to their freedom, they are certainly not stupid. Misinformed? yes.
It just doesn't sit well with me when people are so easily dismissed because of their political affiliation.
Point taken and I agree completely. They may be idiots but that deosn't mean they don't need to be ignored and actualy they have the whole GOP and fox "news" egging them on. It's nauseating.
@bush2sucks 45,000 Americans w/o health insurance die each year for lack of affordable health care? where did you get that figure? Who did the study?
Not that you really care I'm sure but here is where I got it: The Harvard study, funded by a federal research grant, was published in the online edition of the American Journal of Public Health. It was released by Physicians for a National Health Program, which favors government-backed or "single-payer" health insurance. That's up significantly from a 2002 study that found 18,000 died yearly from lack of coverage. You can google the Harvard study and find right wing disagreement I'm sure.
@bush2sucks To Bush2, yes, I do care. Thank you so much for telling me. You are right, there are probably studies with stats that disagree.
Also I do care about people having health insurance. I see both sides, actually, and I wish our Congress would have (and still could) work together to get ideas from each other and respect each other, but we both know they don't ...
But at least you and I can be nice to each other and work together :)
The dummy with the big chaw of tobacco in his lip will rue the day he protested against hc, when he gets mouth cancer and finds out that he is up the proverbial shit creek without a proverbial paddle.
Oh, yes, it was the powerless Democratic Congress toward the tail-end of George Bush's presidency that mismanaged the economy and not Bush, himself, who was the poster boy for a laissez-faire economy with almost no regulation on companies, like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
I applaud everyone who went to D.C. last week. The media by their inattention to two million citizens gathered in one place showed their true colors and by such irresponsible inaction missed the most important story of this century. I have no doubt that the history books will point to 9/12/09 as being the day on which America's rebirthing process began.
God bless all our fellow patriots in the cause of Freedom and Liberty!
They probably waited until Obama was in office as up until the fall of the stock market they probably liked Bush.
I happen to live in the "socialist" country of Canada and i will say this. If I ever end up ill in the US i will fly home. The fact that you have to pay a doctor is ridiculous. They take a hippocratic oath to heal all people not all people IF they have insurance. When 15000+ people die in your country every year because of a lack of health care you must realize your system is flawed
Sing it, sister (or brother)! From 2001 to 2009, these people were George Bush groupies. Now, they won't even mention his name, because he was the king of borrowing and spending without a care for how it would affect the deficit and they don't want to look like hypocrites. And they have the gall to claim that they take issue with Obama's policies and aren't simply setting up all these political roadblocks because he's a Democrat. I hope they get cancer, can't afford treatment and die.
LOL i'll do ya one better. I hope they HAD cancer, lived through it and find out that their insurance company wont cover it but the public option will as it ignores the immorality of pre-existing conditions. I think that would be sweet justice. Would you believe somebody told me i was an ignorant socialist when i told the person that in Canada new mothers get 50 weeks paid time off to raise their kid (the father can have some of that time too!). To me that is worth paying taxes for.
Yes it is great to know that others pay their taxes to help me if im sick just as i dont mind paying my own to make sure that other people are taken care of.
Your response is typical of an undereducated taught to be scared american that has been convinced to hate the unknown. If i was wrong on that you would have a proper healthcare system and wouldnt be in a knee jerk reaction war. Have fun with your healthcare buddy, i hope for your sake you dont have a pre-existing condition
Some of us in America are not afraid and do not mind paying into a system for everyone. However we have to fight against ignorance, fox news, and the insurance industry to be heard. We are trying. And many of us protested the war in Iraq bitterly. Anyone could see they had nothing to do with 9-11. Again though it seems like the sane people in America have no power.
I think the real problem is that your electoral system is nothing but what Churchill called the cult of personality. Obama is not bad, he is not the best however regardless he sold his image to get elected. Let me correct myself there, Bush destroyed his own image and brought the republican party with him making it as easy as it was for Carter. Dont get me wrong, I like Obama, but due to everyone hating Bush so much they would elect anybody for the Dems you just ended up with Obama.
I have met many american with their heads screwed on properly such as yourself. Unfortunatly few of them vote unless things get really bad such as stock market crash at the end of 2009. I just hope you start getting a stronger voter turn out from ALL people as if the right mobilizes for 2012 and wins it will be back to drawing board for alot of programs and policies your country desperately needs. I wish you all the best, after all we are you closest neighbors and pretty much best friends. ;)
I'm glad to see that people are finally protesting Bush's tax policies...but I do wonder why they waited until another president was in office to do it?
These guys are getting ass-raped by the wealthy like the rest of us. They are so blind. Their paranoia and xenophobia destroy their reason. When on earth will they realize that the "they" that are hurting them are not gays or minorities, etc.. but are in fact the very wealthy and corrupt.
Please don't define a movement with two people. Thank you.
