  • Terrible to watch. What a disgrace for Japanese Katana. Sigh....

  • Mushashi would've split this guy in half with 1 chop stick..

  • mabye no techniks but it looks cool though :P

  • Nice gymnastics.

  • Pfff... what a joke!

  • There is this thing called a nuke. Ah... never mind.

  • @freghorn I agree, what that guy did is fine for just entertainment but he will look like a douche in real combat

  • Makes me sad that the trolls found this video also... Youtube trolls pro at everything they watch, never have videos to back it up.... :(

  • I believe the beauty of martial arts comes from real situations and training for real situations. When you move further away from that, you're just going to look... stupid.

  • LoL.... Some shinobi can use shuriken or kunai to kill him :P :D

  • You do this in a wushu competition, it's good. You look at it from a bujutsu point of view, it's just shit in its purest form.

  • he burns a lot of energy but does no hits at all. His moves don't seem to be actually ofensive at all. If that's how he fights, even a ordinary person can kick his ass.

However, seeing this as an artistic exebition, he is preety good at it.

  • Very showy, very energy consuming and a very good way of getting you killed in a fight.

  • Gun Jack shall crush their bones!!!

  • go go power rangers...

  • I hear Samurai Jack in the back :D

  • The amount of women I would fuck if I could do that...

  • This Guy is Jonathan Boyd Worldchamp !!!!

  • I saw the number of dislikes on this video, and was prepared to berate some annoying ass, MMA wannabe fools who think traditional martial arts are shit. But after seeing this, I tend to favor the dislike bar. I'm not saying it wasn't good. It was very good, with a great deal of talent. But it lacks so much of the traditional art that it really can't even associate with it anymore. Almost every time I've seen kata like this in competition against traditional kata, traditional wins out.

  • what an ego.

  • Jajaja e,e genial

  • The second I heard the Samurai Jack soundtrack playing in the background I knew this wasn't going to be a serious form.

  • It would be funny if he accidentally let it go

  • Good greef

  • american understanding of the world: showing off.

  • Mother of God...

  • C-C-C-C-COMMMBOOOOOO

  • Then Indiana Jones just shoots him after.

  • Comment removed

  • bankai xd

  • This Guy loses his control ...

Well,is spectacular to see the mix of acrobatic and martial arts but not elegant at all

  • It's EXXXTREME!!

  • was that the opening theme to Samurai Jack in the beginning...

  • His names John Boyd. He's currently in prison

  • I don't care what you people say about martial arts becoming more about show than actual self-defense. True, the self-defense part is crucial, but you have to realize that these people probably know more self-defense than all of you combined, and they now have time to work on the flashy and showy part of their skills. This guy's form requires so much skill and discipline that no untrained person would be able to achieve. Kudos to the person who did the form, seriously.

  • Clown

  • Everyone's just jealous of his amazing awesomeness and his abilities to awesomely amaze !

  • if i was fighting this dude in a battle i'd shit my pants

  • Whats the name of this guy ?

  • No hara. No kime. No Shizentai. No good stand at all. No focussing on the opponent. Just artistic noodling around. This may be helpfull in a John Woo-movie, but it is far away from the japanese art of sword-fighting.

  • @The1Kong Thats why its "extreme" I've seen professional katana form done by real 50 year in practise masters, its slow as hell and boring.

  • @The1Kong i agree far away what samurai stands for

  • @The1Kong thats why it's called extreme katana not traditional katana

  • @jublio even then it is shit

  • @kaifinn in the eyes of someone like you... i'm sure it is. the point to martial arts is to be open to all aspects of it, the extreme martial arts is just another branch that derived from its ancestors. To be some blatently one sided to something jus means you need to grow and broaden your horizons... i appreciate all forms of the martial art from the extreme, to the traditional to the full contact aspects, from kung fu to karate, bjj to sanda. skill is skill and it takes skill to do this

  • @The1Kong Oh really? Well shit, I came to this video because it said it was in the direct line of japanese art of sword fighting. Not a competition for cool looking sword shit.

    Thank you captain fucking moron.

  • great ! greetings from GERMANY !

  • wow o.O

  • ShameFur Dispray !!

  • Seriously, he could be on a ninja or saurai film! That's mad skills! I'd be to frightened to pick up a katana. :|

  • this sort of competition will not sell abroad. lame..

  • For entertainment it is impressive for fighting it is stupid.

  • Scrams like a fag

  • @Bluedeanie

He's not a "white people" he's an Americanized paki. White people are the rock in the sea of multiculturalism dealing with the bs other cultures bring to the country. Poor attitudes, territorial crap, gangs, hostility. Close the fucking borders.

  • Putain à quand cette video en HQ,c'est tout simplement prodigieux, bravo John!!!

Vous etes mon maitre absolu dans la pratique de ce noble art!

  • White people.

  • American Kung-hu! Exiting!

  • juste ridicule !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice kata, well executed. Not sure I'm a fan of letting go of my Katana mid kata, one of the releases appeared to be an imagining of an opponent dislodging it though, so I can understand that... Very entertaining.

  • @Gichnii how the fuck would you know you probably don't even do martial arts

  • THIS IS A SHAME AND DISRESPECT TO MARTIAL ARTS!

  • Terrible.

  • I saw a high school girl, cheerleader, do the exact same sheet with a baton.

and, 1/3 of this video was him bowing.

  • if he went against a proper samurai he would get butchered

  • LOL AMERICANS.

  • sushi anyone??

  • I had no idea half of the youtube users were martial artists experts in swords, as a normal youtube user I must say this is awesome.

  • Yet another moron that watches too much anime then decides to make his own Xtreme form. This stuff is utter garbage...........

  • Lots show off as an honor to the Samurai that owned the sword and just for the folks enjoyment to watch live. back then and now... Just entertainment... I really don't see a need to burn him. he could probably could kick all your hater's asses. If you think not then show a video of you trying to do spin kicks and whatnot..

  • @Makkaru111 u don't seem to understand. The katana is an ancient weapon bound to the japanese history and this guy is using it as a circus tool, jumping around just for ppl like u to belive he's awesome. ofc ppl gets upset

  • @fisknyll1 Uhm... I am Japanese. And what? They do this so they see the real thing or something close to it. And there are LOTS that keep it private annnnd some real samurai bloodlined people perform and or shown on a documentary or something. Some are so private that you can't get in., since you cant get into the deepest dark of it all does not mean they are being clowns... Be nice... Okay? Calm down. Orrr why not make or find a vid that will fill your pride.

  • @Makkaru111 heh hes probably jealous

  • @Raven555HH No kidding... I am learning to do spiral kicks and whatnot though. Yay~ And I don't get why they have to throw in personal insults in youtube arguements? XD Only a chillllldish person would resort to such antics.. am I retarded? =p

  • @Makkaru111 no lol. The only reason i don't necessarily believe the wandering samurai would do such things like this is they always had to keep watch on their ass so nobody else took them by surprise and killed them. Spiral kicks and other acrobatic moves with weapons or not that can be used effectively aren't dishonorable or shameful at all in my opinion. And honestly if you CAN use them effectively, I feel they would promote a double effectiveness considering it could demoralize your opponent.

  • @Raven555HH I guess. But I am saying that there was entertainment of this sort back then too like in Kabuki and whatnot. Anywayy~! Your body is a leathal weapon if you can pull off moves like spinning momentum kicks. =p

  • @Makkaru111 haha lol 100% serious.. i dont give a fuck about this vid i was just very bored while writing that last comment haha! to win an argue on yt is like winning paralympics - you are still retarded

  • ...

  • What a joke.

  • this guy will b the first one die in the battle. lol

  • lol at all the fat nerd rage in the comments

  • This is personally insulting to watch for me. I've trained by the sword for nearly my entire life and this miscreant is swinging it around with absolutely no respect for the steel. A poor example of the samurai warrior.

  • Why does it seem like he has a very light sword?

  • @gthreesix I assume hes using an aluminum ka gum sword from the haidong gumdo style (korean sword)..... he may even practice haidong gumdo...

  • Oh God, not another vid of this cunt, trying to be some sort of living anime bullshit...

  • this ruins all integraty of iaido, kendo, kenjitsu and all sword arts

  • this is not respecting a true samurai warrior. how come this becoming a dance ..

  • I find this almost insulting to watch. That weapon. a tool that has been passed down for ages and is the very soul of the samurai himself. Is nothing more than a toy to this clown.

  • he scares me, might mishandle the sword and kill his entire team instead of his opponents lawl

  • the song that plays at the start is the theme from Samurai Jack.. listen carefully and you will hear it ..

  • HE PERFORMS ON THE SONG FROM MUMMY RETURNS ...NICE!!!!

  • Id be interested in hearing the bonkai of this "kata".

  • This not so much Budo more Bullshit

  • this guy sucks.

  • @MWizH

this is just for shows :d

  • You only need 1 swing to defeat your oponent.

  • Хера се..О.о

  • This boy sucks a lot.

  • wtf is that shit?

  • nob

  • he needs to learn to look at his target and improve his stance then he might just about pass his first belt - total prat!

  • i dont think that id a real katana

  • All U internet masters kill me with that bullshit talk. It's a form of martial expression. Just because it's different from your way, does that make it wrong ?

  • A lot of people take this way too seriously. XMA is not for fighting hidden ninjas or samurai that are going to show up on your door step. It is for entertainment. It is cool to watch but not meant to be used at all in a real fight. John is a very good martial artiest and he may or may not know real swordsmanship. If all you want to see if real swordsmanship then look up videos of iaijutsu and there competitions. Just enjoy it and if you don’t like it then move on.

  • @sankojin ya no kidding, if I ever had to use a katana in a real fight there would be a real fucking problem going on lol

  • @sankojin you have it all backwards my friend.

  • "martial artiest"

  • I want to agree with the commenters... however, I will say this - this is a forms demonstration at a martial arts tournament. All the judges care about is showmanship. So lots of fancy moves, pointless overly dramatic kiaaaiiis and of course acrobatics. And yes, I guarantee this guy would freeze up and die quickly in an actual sword fight. Still, gotta respect him for his ability to entertain the crowd with his sword juggling.

  • Extreme fail...

  • disrespectful use of a katana. Shameful.

  • @SquareEyesApp Yeah god dam jumping monkey

  • @SquareEyesApp Even the mighty Samurai would have been impressed by this show of sword handling.

  • @SquareEyesApp this looks like a cirque du soleil act....

  • @SquareEyesApp I agree it is a disgrace! All of the Martial is being taken out of the Martial Arts. And now it 's all show and so-called urban street self defense classes. Disgraceful! :(

  • @SquareEyesApp

Shut up he's better than you anc could kick your ass.

  • @SquareEyesApp i bet you can't even fucking hold a katana and you have the guts to talk about his skill. fuck you ! go back to sleep and when you wake up maybe you will realize that the katana is a weapon and a weapon is as good as the man who uses it !

  • for the sake of the martial science (what ever the name it goes for) if it has Extreme attached to it, it is wrong!

  • what possible combat use does that monkey dance have?....oh yes! as a decoy...

  • this is a mockery to the real deal

  • sux...

  • is this an audition for a star wars movie?LOL

  • opponents would just be scared to get close by all that twirling and spinning..

  • facial expression of the star wars kid.

  • if the sword slipped from his hand and goes through someone, that would be awesome!

  • just imagine if he stuffed up. there would be blood everywhere!!

  • you guys are talking like your martial art experts, this is competition is meant to do stuff like this or custom things, no one actualy would fight like that, not even this guy, and how would i know? well i dont, but neither do you, and last i checked he was ranked number 1 in the world for this tournament but that was back in 2007, and only reason im saying this cause of all the know it all experts that rant bullshit on here

  • @KulakxFilms im about as close to martial arts expert as you can get before getting there, been in it for a lil over 10 years, and true, this isnt how he would actually do it, this is for show and nothing else... i have some pretty flashy katas, do i use them on the streets or even thinka bout fighting like that? not for a second, so to everyone that doesnt know what they're talknig about, just be quiet...

  • his grip on his blade is too loose. you simply cannot twirl like that without potentially a slip. there's uneven power in his strokes, no grace in his movement. the guy's about to trip over himself and the grunts demonstrate even his breathing is wrong. breathing controls your rhythm and timing. what you see here is a mickey mouse entertainer, just being honest

  • He is a real katana master as you can see by his ability to control the sword to the best of ability's. The meaningless twirls were for show. Some time people think there smart but really there just "want to be's".

  • fuckin complete bastardization of the katana

  • just for show, meaningless...

  • Too good.

can anyone tell me which style is it?

  • It just looks kinda cool but I'd like to see him take on a real samurai.

  • ???

  • If you where to toss assorted vegetables at him...

  • @newcoyote funniest comment ever

  • He's just like morons doing break dance in a kung fu performance

  • id hate to be the guy that went after him

  • stop being a bunch of keyboard gangster haters. this guy would beat u all in a duel, hes just doing this for the judges. god why do people hate on people that are better than them.

  • Looks more like he belongs in wushu, not kenjutsu

  • I would love to fight this guy with swords. As soon as he lets it go, it's all over with. And I would like him to try it with a sharp sword.

  • that wasn't me for the record amen

  • geil!!!!

  • Ong bak can kick his ass xD

  • It looks flashy but what about doing some cuts during the show. Now that would be cool indeed.

  • what the heck? why do i hear the mummy returns soundtrack at 1:00 lol

  • A real samurai wouldn't even grant this video with a smirk...

  • nobody dies? sucks.

  • corny, but gotta admit he's pretty good

  • this is perfect

  • 2 bad if sword slipped out of his hands and cut someones head off

  • so many opinions, so little enlightenment, what happened to the way of the warrior.

  • Pointless spinning in combat usually means fail dude.

  • @christoiwas It's not combat, it's for show. Like dancing. If it were combat, I'm sure he would waste little to no time splitting you in two.

  • lol we should give him a flaming sword and bring him to a rave

  • This is honestly very bad for me to watch... he looks like such a fool doing all of those meaningless twirls and spins... and what swordsmen lets go of their sword for even a second? John just screams "fail".

  • @Lolhatestorm This isn't a fight to the death. This is literally a competition about showing off. That is like walking into a bakery and getting angry they are putting designs on their cake. John could probably cut your cock off. 1/10 troll got me to reply.

  • @Lolhatestorm Yeah exactly, I know some people who do sword forms, and they said never change your grip or let go of your sword, how dumb must you have to be to literally let go of your sword

  • @Timmy4pawz um do you see him fighting anyone. that is obviously for show, what you think clowns at the circus actualy juggle chain saws while chopping down a tree, its called for show

  • @Lolhatestorm Anybody who has studied traditional Kendo will know the katana in an extension of the arm. It is to he wielded with respect and the movements precise and clean. I see none of that in this video.

  • @Lolhatestorm Could'nt agrre more mate the katana is not a sword to be treated in such a way it was a sword meant to end fightds with a single simple clean move

  • @Lolhatestorm At least he would scare the shit out of a sane person.

  • @Limboinpinbo

well, a sane person would know to just stand far from him until he is exhausted and then kick him in the face.

  • @lunatics72 I would probably back away as he is fucking crazy...

  • @Lolhatestorm its exhibition xD supposed to be flashy, like in karate or kung fu there are alot of twirls and spins and jumps that look cool but are really meaningless. they are supporsed to look cool, at kumite its more brute.

  • @Lolhatestorm What fool carries a sword into combat during this point of time, or even studies how to use one? It's meaningless with the advancement of technology.

It's all on your perspective. I'm not doing this as an insult, just twisting it to a different view. You can critique, but don't insult someone by calling them a fool.

  • @Shawshank1Gaming

I didn't say he "was" a fool, I just said he "looks" like a fool. It's critiquing his form, as in he looks like a monkey. I'm not saying it's bad to do what you like to do, by all means, do what ever it is that makes you happy as long as it doesn't involve child abuse.

  • he's leaving an opening in everyone of those moves and he also needs to stop throwing out his arms or they'll get chopped off

  • Why would I ever throw a Katana in the air just to catch it?

  • @Splatter722 to change a position...

  • lol, using guns is for pussys. THIS is for real man

  • "I don't want to live on this planet anymore"

  • WHAT AN IDIOT!!!!

  • LOl this would be funny to watch if he tried fighting someone....all this makes him out to be is a glorified baton twirler.

  • Look at the body language, not the blade's meaningless strokes. Observe the way his head moves from @1:03 onwards. At least prison will give him time to reflect & meditate.

  • Jonathan Boyd, convicted child molester

  • stereotypical mockery on mountain training etc is no surprising revelation.. but a reinforcement of lack of comprehension. it is an acquired view thus not everyone understands or appreciates this remonstration.

his movement alone and the mere handling of blade... exaggerated, unsmoothe, ugly. his body tension reveals he has learns little of meditation. he cannot execute his flow properly, coordination & control is weak. simplistic repetitions, little technique. the basics are found wanting.
