The fact is that 'America' was founded on very different principles than today's. Our version of 'freedom' is fake in a sense, because money/power has a certain type of societal 'gravity'.
To get everyone under the same banner, you have to eradicate other ones. China has more people - FACT.
BTW. StarTrek didn't predict the Cellphone. The technology works on planets without cell towers.
