@amorekristall Criollo just means a White person born in the Americas. It doesn't have to be only the first generation. You are a Criollo. Also, many White Americans have some degree of Native American ancestry and are still classified as White. Having 10% Native American blood does not make you an Indian. 90% White is a White person. Most people of the world has something minor mixed in.

The majority of Latin Americans are Mestizos, which are a mixed race of White European and Native American Indian. Also, many White Americans have some degree of Native American ancestry and are still classified as White. Having 10% Native American blood does not make you an Indian. 90% White is a White person. @clearblueish Here's a brief history lesson: BEFORE Spain ever set foot on the American continent, before the year 1492, before what we know as "Latin-America" ever existed...the word "Hispano/a" already existed in the Spanish lexicon. The word meant "a person from Spain" basically. A few hundred years later, the people born in the Spanish colonies of the American continent usurped this word and started using it to describe themselves. It was not "made up" for the land they conquered as you say.

I guess the answer is that 90% of the spanish-speaking people living in the USA are non-whites (mainly mexicans, most of them native americans and/or mestizos with little spanish blood).
But still they are ignoring other spanish speaking people in other regions of the world are white (Spain, Andorra, Argentina..)

Yes, catalan is the only official language in Andorra, but spanish is widely spoken, and also french is much more spoken than catalan. I know Andorra la Vella, I have been there shopping, and when you get in a shop they automatically speak you in spanish or french.

The Spanish didn't choose to call you after them. Latin Americans decided to call themselfs Hispanic after the Spanish. France called them latine so they could have a foothold in Latin american and rule it. However people who are not from those regions cannot really understand the situation, since over in those countries they have a different perception of what race is than we do here in the U.S. Nonetheless the term Hispanic is used by these countries to define themselves and the ties they have to Spain and are proud of it.
