They should have taught the kids to respect and treat all firearms with care, would this have still happened who knows but odds are it would have been much less likely to happen.

Im an american. Im a good kid. I dont shoot on a daily basis. I dont beat the shit out of princibles. The only time I fought a bus rider was helping a little kids get their stuff. The closest thing to a school shooting in my communtiy was a twelve year old brought a BB gun to school, didn't even fire it. I'm 100% for the 2nd amendment, the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. What I'm also for is personal responsibility. You can sit there and fool yourself and say that the laws are the problem, but we don't need a nanny state. What we do need are adults who are smart enough to keep there arms locked and not open to 10 yr olds. Yes, some people get hurt or die because of our freedoms. I'd hate to say it, but it is the parents fault. They gave the kid 6 rifles, and 2, they didn't take them away when he is having anger and impulse control issues.
I support the second amendment, but good god, giving a kid 6 loaded rifles and confronting him when he's angry, of course the kid will act on impulse. Want to teach your kid to shoot? If a person is taught to respect a weapon, it's usually not a problem, but what is the rest of the story on the boy? No one has approched the behavior issues and why it was such a huge problem to go out and get firewood. I wonder if there was another activity that Mom interupted...TV, Video games, computer? I've been to a couple of gun shows, I've never seen anyone just buying guns from a back of a truck. I know my dad purchased a gun there and they did a background check and everything right then and there.
Also, I grew up with guns in my house (not in my bedroom mind you) and I was taught from an early age what they were capable of and not to use them. It was never a weird taboo thing where "Oh my god, there's a gun in the house, we're all going to die!" It's a matter of education.

The solution is not to get rid of guns, but rather to ensure proper education about the safe handling of firearms to children from an early age. Too many families do not educate their children about proper gun handling and safety. In any other situation Democrats would be fighting for education on the matter in public schools. Not how to shoot a gun, but how to safely handle one and when it is proper to use one.
