I read many places that you can do it, but other places say that att won't let you use a PAYG sim card in an iPhone anymore, because they can detect your iPhones serial number.

To fully activate your iPhone prepay you need to add £10 worth of phone credit, this not only fully activates your iPhone but also activates the data bundle which gives you 12 months of free data. Your O2 E Top-Up card must be activated before you use it for the first time. You can do this in two ways. You can use your Top up card that you get with the iPhone or top it up the by going to a bank and typing in the number and taking money from the bank to your phone or ring O2 for help.

they are quite durable, there have been tests from droping it in milk to running it over with a car, and they survived, but the apple logo on the back of the phone, gets scartched easy, so overall its not gona break as easy, HOPE IT HELPS ^_^

I think you probably can but i'm not sure on that, so you should go to an O2 store or ring them up to check. There will a new iphone out by then so you might want to upgrade anyway.
