Thinking back on it I can't really say. I didn't dare go on deck. It wasn't snatching so the long nylon snubber must have been taking all the weight. From memory the water was about 5 meters and I was on sand. I had all 300 plus foot out. She would sail up on the anchor, go broadside and then get lain down. The stresses must have been phenomenal.
I can remember, above all the racket, hearing a couple of clicks on the deck. For the next 1000 mile up to Buenos Aires I thought about those noises trying to work out what they were. I found a screw in the cockpit but didn't connect the two events. I did a rigging check in Buenos Aires and found 4 of the 8 screws that hold the radar to the mast had worked there way out and the others were loose!
......balls of steel man !! Mother nature is an awesome adversary when roused. Good luck with the sailing, tho' it looks like the boat and equipment, inc' the skipper are up to it.

Yes it is an 80lb supreme. I think the advice was for 60lb. And 300' of 3/8 chain with a long Nylon snubber attached low part way down the bow. Without the snubber I would have broken something for sure.
The anchor was a Supreme made in New Zealand. I threw away my oversized CQR as I have never had any joy in using this type. The supreme sets in seconds and I have never dragged. My first experience was in NZ when I was caught out in the freak storm (2007) with a short scope on a lee shore (my fault) The highest recorded wind speed for that night was 180 kph outside the bay I was in. We didn't drag that night either. At Punta Delgarda I put on the anchor watch alarm and slept. Well sort of!
No, it is a Supreme. What is a sarca? It might be the same concept. They are basically a spade with a big round bar over the top. I hope to get back to Bathurst Harbour again one day.
I use the manson surpreme as well, It is a real good anchor.

Was there any caternary left in your rode or was it bar tight? What scope? How deep was the water?

The Supreme is a copy of the "Rocna" anchor from New Zealand.

You had just the Supreme anchor? Not a second one?

Did you use an oversized anchor? Was your rode all chain? Thanks for the post, it inspires confidence!

I did try this but the boat was sailing on her anchor. It only made this worse. So I just hung.

I sometimes use my engine to take the strain off the rode. Did you have to resort to using the engine when the wind built up?

It looks awful, and with night falling, double-trouble.
It can be a very lonely place like that.

I rode out Hurricane Lili aboard "Heidi Lynn" hanging on my Fortress anchor - your video brings back a rush of memories, thanks for posting.
