What the fuck? I'm black and I grew up listening to 3rd Bass, Beastie Boys, N2Deep,House Of Pain, Vanilla Pain, all these cats dropped classics in hip-hop culture. Cause Eminem ain't spittin it "black" enough for you determines that he's not hip-hop? That's like saying Kobe's average cause you hate the Lakers. "Gotcha girl on my arm and I'm armed with a firearm so big my entire arm is a giant Firebomb" is dope i don't give a fuck what race. Oh yeah we black people sold each other as slaves.
say wat you want dude...them white muthafuckas aint hip hop period point blank...niggas started this shit...thats why theres only a few white dudes in the game now cuz they kno this belongs to us...its the labels who will sell the white rappers cuz we hav white listeners now also..so why not get that money..a nigga stupid to pass on that..but that dont mean these whiteys are hip hop..white ppl buy hip hop records more than us now...i will sell it to even if i dont lik it if it makes money
yes black people started rap but black people copy lowriders, copy asians getting asian tattoos and blacks especially try to copy the italian mob. so whats wrong with other races rapping?
negative...when the last time U saw any black person trying to be asian...calm the fuck down, and breath playa.thats an insult to me and any other black person.
uhh lets see pimp c had asian lettering tatted on him, all the blacks doing martial arts, but when anyone else does rap its fucked up. i aint white but i would be insulted if someone said i was acting black cuz i liked rap. fuck being black, u people copy everything. only thing yall created was rap
Stop spreading ignorance. Im BLACK...but I don't care about color. Stop being slavish to it. Life is about cultures, we all learn from each other, we use each others ideas, food, styles, and so forth. It's life. Doesn't mean stealing.
I have a chinese symbol on my arm...means peace...but I also have a tribal...but Im black.
If you like it, it doesn't matter what color. Life is too short to worry about that. The grim reaper doesn't care what color you are. Live life and do your thing.
@CALICOTV301 Yeah taht's it. That's what we new generations will come up with. Fk race. Fk religion. Fk borders. Fk anything that separates us. That doesn't mean that we aren't allowed to be diff. That just means that we accept whoever and build from there.
true. not all the best rappers are black. like that foo equipto who raps with andre nickatina for exaample. Hes part asian or sum shit but dude got heat.
If Eminem ain't hip-hop then why EVERYTIME he's on a track with a black artist his verse is tighter? Why do you remember his verse better than Jay-Z's on "Renegade". I'll tell you why. Cause everytime he collabs he thinks about the time he didn't have a deal and had to prove himself ten times over in a black man's game. If knowin the struggle ain't hip-hop I don't know what is. You belong in the 20's where you can be told where you belong based on your skin color....
anybody can rap dude...and to you eminem's verse was tighter......thats your opinion...i didnt say eminem cant flow dude..i said he's not hip hop...he's not us...he's just a trailer park cracker tryin to be us..but i aint goin for it tho...he got rich from our shit...and he probably talkin shit on us and we dont even kno it...even if em's verse is tighter..he still aint us dude...he could never be no matter how hard he flows..i never liked the dudes voice on the mic..he sounds to crackerish 2 me
@SuperBEDROCKER hip hop started with black artists but that doesn't mean it belongs to black people, it's art, it's music, it transcends race..but if you're gonna get stuck on race that is your problem, not many have been more successful than Eminem and I bet he couldn't care less what you think as he is still doing his thing while you are here complaining that he's white. You can say they aren't hip hop and act the separatist all you want, but nobody really cares what you think :)
Im from Detroit!! Aint no fukking trailor parks in this bitch!!!!! Em used to hang on a few blocks but thats it. That movie pisses me the fukk off!! It portrayed the underground rap scene but thats all!!
i wish it was like the old days. lil wayne can rap but if he would have said he was a blood back then he would have got laughed at. im 30 so i know whats up
Without doubt the most charged period of the rap movement for me would have to be 1990 to 1998. The production tended to focus much more on experimental, liquid and balanced melodies. Not to say that rap has gone all bad these days but I just don't hear much music behind the dark lyrics these days. When was the last time we heard a track like this or Eiht's Compton Bomb, or the fantastic production values reflected Bone Thugs E1999 or Art of War albums? Honorable mention to Quik's Rythymalism.
"Crying about mainstream"? Yep you're right, I'm a 35 year old man with sat here sobbing pools of tears onto my lap-top as I write. Secondly, you havent really answered my question, what defines "mainstream" for you as opposed to "underground"? There's enough people out there whom will say that the second a rapper buys a Rolex is the second they have sold out to the mainstream, so does that mean success in the form of album sales means "sellout". So tell me ...why get a record deal at all?
With respect, that's like saying you have to be black to understand blues music, German to get classical and white to truly understand....penny loafers and pringle sweaters??? The term old skool should really refer to Melle Mel, Sugar Hill, Run DMC etc. Eiht and Spice 1 emerged in the very late 80's and early 90's. The term "Old Skool rap" was in response to this period. If you mean mainstream as in formulaic rubbish put out by cynical execs like Soulja Boy, then I agree, this stuff is garbage.
I couldn't agree more. Me, I am merely a fan of some of the genre. Which, going back to my original comment, this track represents for me, my preferred era of rap music as I like the production values.
As a side question, what ever happened to N.O.T.S. ?
The last Spice and Eiht album I listened to was a collaboration titled (if memory serves me right) "Keep It Gangsta". It was interesting but the music behind the lyrics seemed to me a bit flat. Depends on what you're into, I guess. With N.O.T.S., they're on here but I can't find anything by them to get hold of. I'm after Another Front and Bacc. Nice use of funk synth and vocoder.
I betcha the same people who claim somebody's a "sellout" never even sold a candy bar. If you not trying to sell then why are you in it? Alott hatin' ass people like to knock somebody else's hustle. Shit if you can make enough to pay off the national deficit and not lose your soul i'm all for it. People hate Lil' wayne and Souljah Boy. I don't particularly like their music but i ain't gonna knock the hustle. They might actually feel what they put out is the bomb. it just doesn't appeal to me
I assume that you're replying to my comment from two months ago about the perception that success is the equivalent of selling out?
With regards to Soulja Boy my personal opinion is that he has virtually no lyrical dynamics and is promoted due to his being a young and non-threatening persona. He will be promoted and tied in with other deals (Pepsi, Doritos etc). That's okay but what about more talented artists?
For example, I can use the recent series of X Factor in the UK in which two Irish twins who had not a modicum of stand out talent were kept IN the show by Simon Cowell, purely because they were "entertaining" and therefore an assurance that people would continue to try and vote them out, which in turn created higher ratings and more advertising revenue. Not a problem however two talented contestants were voted off the show and therefore missed out on a career just to keep the twins in.
You said it right TheBugzMoney!!!! These whack ass no skillz busterz now are fukin shitty. Old school and West Coast started me listening to Rap. Soldier Boy and Web Star made me quit listening to it
Wish they could still make em like this...thanks for posting fam

PluggyBear 2 years ago
anybody can rap dude...and to you eminem's verse was tighter......thats your opinion...i didnt say eminem cant flow dude..i said he's not hip hop...he's not us...he's just a trailer park cracker tryin to be us..but i aint goin for it tho...he got rich from our shit...and he probably talkin shit on us and we dont even kno it...even if em's verse is tighter..he still aint us dude...he could never be no matter how hard he flows..i never liked the dudes voice on the mic..he sounds to crackerish 2 me

tvshortsaleexperts 2 years ago
@SuperBEDROCKER hip hop started with black artists but that doesn't mean it belongs to black people, it's art, it's music, it transcends race..but if you're gonna get stuck on race that is your problem, not many have been more successful than Eminem and I bet he couldn't care less what you think as he is still doing his thing while you are here complaining that he's white. You can say they aren't hip hop and act the separatist all you want, but nobody really cares what you think :)

Honorable mention to Quik's Rythymalism.
webb3ro 2 years ago
1980 to 2000 was the years as far as mainstream bullshit. but rap will always be underground.
GunzUp30Clip 2 years ago
Not sure which artist / rapper you're referring to. What defines mainstream or underground to you?
webb3ro 2 years ago
you crying about mainstream when the underground is on fire. mc eiht comes out with new shit every year. spice 1 just dropped a album in june 2009
GunzUp30Clip 2 years ago

Who, N.O.T.S. or Spice and Eiht?

They might actually feel what they put out is the bomb. it just doesn't appeal to me
PluggyBear 2 years ago
I assume that you're replying to my comment from two months ago about the perception that success is the equivalent of selling out?
With regards to Soulja Boy my personal opinion is that he has virtually no lyrical dynamics and is promoted due to his being a young and non-threatening persona. He will be promoted and tied in with other deals (Pepsi, Doritos etc). That's okay but what about more talented artists?
webb3ro 2 years ago
For example, I can use the recent series of X Factor in the UK in which two Irish twins who had not a modicum of stand out talent were kept IN the show by Simon Cowell, purely because they were "entertaining" and therefore an assurance that people would continue to try and vote them out, which in turn created higher ratings and more advertising revenue. Not a problem however two talented contestants were voted off the show and therefore missed out on a career just to keep the twins in.
