It's the voltage regulator inside the alternator. When you give it gas the voltage output increases as it does with every other alternator, yours just isn't regulating the high voltage, causing a most likely fried battery. Fix of this is to replace the alternator, I believe this has an internal regulator that can't be replaced by itself.
Our Taurus is doing the exact same thing, all the lights, radio and everything works in it but the battery doesn't have enough juice to start the car. When we turn the key it won't even turn over, all I hear is the relay just like yours. My dad thinks it might be the starter but the car doesn't have any problems starting when there's juice. Do you think the alternator is bad or something else? Please respond.
it probably is an alternator a little trick that i know is that if u get the car running and u take of the negative cable and if the car shuts off it is the alternator try that it may be with older cars though dude
2000 ford taures have that problem with their altinators. They are well known for overcharging. my 2000 taures does that too. mainly at a higher rpm.its the altinator.
Looks to me like its been sitting up for a while. Best advice I can give you is take the battery out and take it to a local parts store and get it tested if its not that Im thinkin its the alternater too. Or try going through the fuses on the the inside and under the hood and make sure none is blown. I had that happen before, 10 amp fuse shut the whole car down.
lol dats wierd mine or on mine i have to jump it to get it starting and i keep it running for about 15 mins and when i shut the car down and then turn it back on the car is just make a cliking sound!
It could be the alternator. I don't know much about cars, but thalternatorcould be the issue. The battery shaped light (which I refer to as the VOLTS light) comes on when the voltage system has trouble charging. This is my best possible guess, bear with me on that. ;)
its the alternator!!!! i have a Taurus... start with replaceing the alternator and if the battery light keeps comming on you could always go back to the owners manual
Well i know one thing for sure. And its if you disconnect a battery terminal it will kill the engine. Because I had a bad battery and i used a good one to start it and try to swap them to charge the dead one and it just shut off the engine.
yea its the alternator and since its fuel injected the battery has to be charged for it to run because the computer tells the fuel injecters how much fuel to inject
hi, i'm eletronic technician, first, if you live on a too cold area, some times de battery freeze, and this cause a too low life battery, if it not, may be a too old battery, and if these two options are gone, the third, ..( alternator)
no!. its just the battery wires. or the battery its too old. my taurus had the same problem. i had to jump it for about 4-6 times in 2 1/2 month period. I figure, if it was the alternator then on my car problem it wouldn't even move of the parking spot. like I dorve it that long with that problem. since I drove for that long i figured it was something to do with the wires. and there it was. the battery cable wires. never changed the alternator but the wires and cleaned the battery plug heads Ez!
I drive that same model and year taurus. Its the alternator. Thats it, buy a new alternator change it and the car will be brand spankin new. The reason I know its the alternator is the light that comes up. Trust me. Plus the engine shuts off.
Alternator probably has a bad connection, and at the same time its probably BAD.I had the same issue with my old Mazda 626.The alternator burnt out. What you can do is take the battery cable off, and see if it arks when, if it does with the car completely off, no doors open or anything, then something is pulling power, could be a short in the alternator or a loose connection with the two prong power connector that goes to the alternator.
everyone below me is wrong if You dont have all your power sources leveled it could send all the sintrifical power to one electronic source of the car so u should check to see if all your lights are from the same manufacture the battery light comes on that usally means that ur wires are not flowing properly go to your local shop have them check the wires then check the altinator :)
The PCM tells the Regulator when to charge and not charge.... So rule out the alternator, then proceed with a scanner and workshop pinpoint testing to verify the pcm command to the alternator, cables, etc (ford master tech)
my 05 i bought used (i fucking love btw) has some really wierd electrical problems sometimes. its probably the batery cables, i replaced those and it hasnt happened since.
i would say definatly the alternator because it starts ups and runs off of the other cars power and the battery light is indicating that there is something wrong with the charging system not just the battery. if the alternator were running properly the battery would charge and you'd be able to start it up and because it cut off as soon as you took off the jumper cables that indicates its running off of the other cars alternator, in short change alternator
if it was running off the alternator it would still run because the alternator is alreday in motion and has,or at least should have, proper wire conectivity to the battery and the rest of the entire electrical system.
yea but its entirely possible that there is a bad connection or that the alternator has something internally wrong with it ie. bad coils. so it wouldnt matter if the alternator was turning or not
My first thought is some bad wiring somewhere. My contour did that and would die at 60mph because the wiring was faulty around the battery, it had nothing to do with the batt or alternator, just bad wiring.
the same thing happened with my 96 dodge ram 1500 it turned out to be the starter when you turn the key it does stat up then as soon as i stop idling it shuts off
If you know anyone who owns a shop, you can use their equipment. You use a VAT tester to test the amps being output by the alternator. The Taurus has a 120 amp alternator so it should have an output near there when revving the engine at 2000 RPM.
an easy way to test if your alternater is bad is to start your car and turn all the radio, lights, a/c or heat.. basically everything then disconnect the battery. If the car stop running then it's the alternater if it runs as normal then the alternater is fine.
well my mom had bought the new battery weeks before when she didn't know what it was and by the time she asked me to look at it it was dead so I swapped it out at the store she bought it from without a problem since it still looked brand new. This is her second car so it wasn't a priority to get fixed.
Hi Everyone... thanks for the feedback. It was the alternator. I was thrown because i thought if that was the only problem it should run fine once it's started but realized from the feedback that even though it was running all the electronic components still didn't have enough juice to run with the depleted battery. I replaced the alternator and battery and all is well. Thanks for the help! Odunk
i Have a Taurus 2000 with a ford mustang v8 4.7L And It's Doing The Same Shit It's not your motor or your batterie ... it's a ford problem ... the electric system ... ford suck with this !
Hey bud yea I deffently check out the alternator cause it seems like it is not holding the charge to the battery and I do a ohm test to the alternator and also check all the connects and see if there is any loose connections and if any are curoded clean them out. I own a 1996 Taurus so I hope that will help you any.
Well first, that's not the correct way to jump a car. You never connect the negative cable to the negative terminal of the car being jumped.
This may have killed your battery or alternator in the 1st place.
Connect the negative to a metal point, which grounds to the frame. The car works when connected to another car, because it's living off of that cars charging system. Your best bet is to remove the alternator and take it to your local Autozone. They will test it for free.
i dont know if you fixed it yet but i have an 2002 ford taurus and something similar to that was on the recall list and of course my car was one of them...they fixed mine for free at the ford dealer i bought it from but i never knew what was wrong i thinkk it has something to do with the sensor on it and itll get worse over time....
Alternator, Battery Cables, And Another new Battery. You're set. The Alternator works in different stages ( Low RPM and High RPM ).
On a 2000 Ford Expedition. I noticed the Battery Light would come on when Revving over 4000RPM. A week Later, the Battery and the Alternator was dead.
Just to note, I'm pretty sure the car was jump started before installing the new battery. Jumping it while placing inappropiatly the positives and the negatives will kill the alternator.
from just what I see in the video I wold say you defiantly have a bad alternator. but you alternator most likely killed the battery also. I would replace the alternator and battery if the battery is only a month old you should be able to get it replaced for free. That shoud fix the car. But I cant say for sure since I have not dionsed it.
