I will always extend this great culture to my sons, Nickolas Patrick and Ian William to the brave Irish who gave their lives to fight. As a Lutheran who married a Catholic, we must stand together. As America falls, we all must remain strong to fight the dominance.
This is coming from an American, but... do a majority of people in North Ireland actually want to leave the UK? Fighting the British army is one thing, but what's supposed to happen to all the Protestant Anglos that have lived there for hundreds of years?
@echoecho81 Oh for Christs sake the majority of Northern Ireland wants to remain British! I wish Americans would go and get educated! Everybody in Northern ireland has a vote just as every other citizen of the United Kingdom! Its the few continuity IRA and Provos who are snowballing the struggle. They are scared of any settlement being made, because all they know is the gun and the bomb! Talking is not in the terrorists' vocab!
@MovieMad007 I'm no fan of the IRA and pals, but they did sign a peace agreement over 10 years ago and put down their weapons. There have been a few incidents since then, but there's almost no support for it. There have probably been far more attacks by loyalist paramilitaries, but they mostly kill each other over little feuds.
@batlin nope they have not put their weapons down! Police/and 2 British army personnel/and a pizza delivery guy were killed in the last week in Northern Ireland. These IRA/Loyalists are just the same - just on opposite sides of the religious spectrum (one is supposedly Catholic and the other Supposedly Protestant). But just like the conflicts in the middle East - religion is but an excuse.....no more than that! If the IRA are "Cathlolics" - they are breaking every rule in the bible!
just as the UVF (so called Loyalists) are supposedly "Protestant" means they are Christian - and respect the bible well the bible says "thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not hurt thy neighbour" - the 10 Commandments .......well the IRA (in all its different guises -Provos-continuity-INLA-or Real IRA, have just about murdered 3 or 4000 British military/citizens over the last 20 or 30 years. I was in Manchester when the bomb blasted causing enormous destruction in the 1990's.
@MovieMad007 That's why I said "a few incidents since then", but that's just a couple of nutters. BTW that was two years ago, not last week.
Totally agreed with you though - it's a very similar attitude of hatred and balkanisation on both sides. The religious split is only a coincidence, but served as a convenient way to target people on the "other" side, even if it wasn't always accurate. It's really about territorialism.
I've heard fanatics of both sides speak and they all sound like thugs :/
@codownni You realize there are hundreds of thousands of U.S citizens who are of Irish decent don't you? They're just as much a part of the Irish heritage.
@codownni The only ones who claim to be Irish just as an excuse to get pissed are usually not even a quarter Irish. This past St. Patty's day it was all Italian and Latino Americans saying "well... I'm sort of Irish...10 generations removed.. *gulp* the best beer ever!"
to all who are interested this song was in fact performed by Maggie Boyle and the song is a traditional song arranged by James Horner. Maggie Boyle performed all the soundtrack vocals except for Harry's Game by Clannad which was used within the film
madmenrule... Tha name of the song is Harry's Game by Clannad. It's an Irish Band. Enya was part of the band (an family) in early years, but she left to pursue a solo career. Hope this helps.
Haunting.....

And to the San Patricio Battalion who gave their lives in Mexico. May their courage against indifference and injustice be remembered always.

@fh09hl I don't know the name of the song, but it's by Enya.

@MsXizan Um, it's not Enya...I've listened to her my whole life and this is not her voice...

@AlohaMaggieSteele In the credits, I think it said that Enya was the SONGWRITER. Clannad may have been the group performing it.
