I think it is sad how people made Billy Buck the scapegoat for losing the '86 World Series. The Sox had a terrible pitching staff. I would lay more of the blame on Schiraldi, Stanley and Hurst. They were the ones that blew the lead for the Sox in games 6 and 7.
as a met fan,i thought it was schiraldi who blew it in 86..he was on the mets in 84-85 and when he came in a game,it was like ,oh crap its schiraldi! we're gonna lose! he was just never confident at all. so when i saw him get called in to pitch in game 6,i just knew we (mets) were going to score.. i was actually in boot camp in missouri ,watching with 3 of my drill instructors of all people..and when we scored,i let out a big YEAH!!! and woke up half the barracks and got dropped for 50 pushups!

It wasn't really the fans that did it, it was the media that kept showing it over and over and over and over again, never letting it die down. In fact, Bill Buckner came back to play for the Sox in 1990, and got a huge ovation then, too.
