There are different types of Teflon Tape...I believe this is the Teflon tape that should be used for this type of installation: TT50 260Y YELLOW GAS LINE TEFLON THREAD SEAL TAPE
Designed for gas lines of all types... Natural gas, propane and butane lines. Meets gas company standards world wide. Full density (1.6) makes this the heaviest tape available. Seals threads easily and quickly with confidence. Has a temperature range of -450F to +550F. Exceeds Mil. Spec. T-27730A UL Listed
Wouldn't solar power be a better alternative than propane, natural gas, and gasoline if you had the money? A generator might make noise, which could let looters know you have electricity as well as fuel. Not only that, but, your supply of fuel would eventually run out, where as sunlight is free, and in an almost limitless supply.
@AirsoftShenanigans My understanding about current solar capabilities is that the number of panels necessary to deliver any appreciable amount of power is both space and cost prohibitive. That's why everyone hasn't given their local power company the heave-ho and put a bunch of solar panels on their roofs. I wish we could!
I'm not sure about the kit thing , in Iraq we have the propane comes in tanks and connect it to the cooker (not with main pipes like water) so what i did was that i opened the bottom of the carburetor , connected the high-pressure hoes from the tank to the -i dont know how to describe it exactly- metal pipe that injects the gasoline in the engine , gradually increasing the amount of gas with switching the generator on until it starts ... I hope I made it clear.
What's the cost on that kit roughly? That would be nice to have one tank for camping rather than having to carry a gas can around too, since I have a Camp Chef that I take I could run a Tee to the generator and to the stove and not have to deal with gasoline.
Great video, I'll be looking to do this on my generator.
Hey Mike, You should have used the yellow sealing tape, white is for air and water, yellow for LPV / NG... Great video I will be putting a conversion kit on my Honda.
Thanks for all you do for us out here in You Tube land
I like your videos but you may want to STOP fly the US Military Flag, as the American Civil Flag. Yes, many don't know any better and you will question it before investigating. Remember the flags flown when "the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there", this was a Military Base, this was the flag Betsy Ross sewed for the US Military, not the American Civilian Flag.
This setup'd be fine for an emergency involving a power outage for a day or two. But beyond that time it takes on a new significance. As your neighbours and passers by become cold, sick of eating out of cold cans and sick of not having TV or lighting, your house will be a noisy beacon displaying that you have something they don't have and would very much like to have. Perhaps some of them would like to share it with you by moving in - or moving your machines and fuel out
@Survive2Day- Great Video, a company USCarb.com sells a Tri-fuel generator adapter-Propane, Nat Gas & Gasoline. Looks good for those who have natural gas to their home. May I also suggest Reliance Controls (on web) Protran transfer switches . Reliance Controls has simple to follow videos on their web site on how to install the switches. I have the Reliance Trans switch (its great), going to order Gen Adapter. (I'm not affiliated with either manufacturers). Thanks for your vids.
@tomyhill123 The exhaust is clean, but the issue is the carbon monoxide danger. This would be dangerous to operate indoors with gasoline or propane. You also have the fire hazard of an internal combustion engine that you don't want to bring indoors.
@tomyhill123 Burning propane produces CO2 (carbon dioxide), not CO (carbon monoxide). CO2 does displace oxygen but is not toxic like CO. Propane would be much safer to run indoors but I would still definitely pipe out the exhaust. If your exhaust job leaked, when burning propane, there is much less likely chance of it killing you. If you must burn gasoline / diesel indoors, pipe the exhaust and use battery powered CO2 detectors.
@hopeechangee umm yeah all internal combustion engines produce CO as well as CO2 regardless of the fuel that is used. propane is much cleaner and produces LESS but it is still produced and is very dangerous
@resqjason2 Propane produces an EXTREMELY SMALL amount of CO compared to gasoline and diesel. Un-vented propane heat is commonly used and people are not dropping dead from it.
@hopeechangee On this generator and with the load I have, it isn't a big difference one way or another, but you would want to adjust for idle and then tweak it under full load. Good point.
Great job. I appreciate this as I want to do this on my Coleman Powermate Generator (Briggs and Stratton)
One thing I am curious about, and I know its too soon for you to have tried it out long term, is the doillar effiency running Propane Vs Gas. But it sure seems Propane will be easier and theb key is you can use onme or the other.
I just ordered the kit for my generator, can't wait!!!!

Have you tested a full tank of propane to see how long it lasts? That would be interesting to see if you get more time out of the propane than gas.

That was an excellent tutorial. Thank you. I believe even I could do this. I'd like to convert my lawn tractor.

How long can you store propane for?
Zippy1one 7 months ago
@Zippy1one I've heard anything from 10 to 20 years. The cylinder would fail before the propane would go bad.
