Hace 3 meses "Animandes" planteó lo que creo es la verdad: el señor Alfredo Kraus les hacía sombra a los tres tenores. Su "Werther" es precioso por emisión de voz, fiato, pronunciación francesa, emoción interpretativa. Los otros son muy buenos pero también

un producto de la publicidad de los sellos discográficos o no sé quiénes más... Busquen

"Pourquoi me réveiller, o souffle du printemps" cantado por él y luego me cuentan...

Lo de que Kraus no fué tan popular debido al repertorio que escogió no es ajustado a la realidad. Obviamente no abordo roles spinto alejados de su vocalidad pero si su repertorio estaba repleto de grandes roles líricos. A ver señores, acaso Werther, Alfredo (La Traviata) Conde de Mantua (Rigoletto) Des Grieux (Manon), Faust, Hoffmann (Les Contes de Hoffmann), Edgardo (Lucia di Lmmermoor) Fernando (La Favorita), Gennaro (Lucrezia Borgia), Romeo (Romeo et Juliette) no son grandes roles de tenor ?.

@alfonsorama1 En la traviata el personaje es Violeta, Alfredo canta. En Rigoleto el personaje es el bufon, el duque canta, en Lucía, es Lucia, en la Favorita es Leonora ect. Las operas francesas no son popularesl Los grandes roles de tenor, los que son populares, son los de la ópera italiana ´, los Canio, Turiddu, Alvaro, Manrico,Don Carlo,Otello, Radames, Rodolfo,Cavaradossi,Kalaf. Entre los operómanos Kraus fue reconocido y admirado, pero no fue popular. Por su repertorio.

Reply to Bjartmario: The hall can color Kraus' voice here, I think it makes it darker than the recording with concert recording you referred to which is miked (the electronics can color the sound as well).

"j'aurais tout lui dire" , doesn't mean anything :p "Du" is the verb "devoir" translated as "must" in english.

"j'aurais du tout lui dire" can be translated as "I should have told him everything"

No existen por desgracia registros sonoros de Gayarre,pocos años despues de su muerte, Caruso gravó los primeros registros operísticos, una autentica pena porque dicen que tenia una voz portentosa conun registro agudo inigualable.

@luisenes La voz de Kraus era unica, pero el no compite con Pavarotti, ni con Domingo. Kraus mismo decia que cada tenor debia interpretar las operas que se ajustaban a su timbre de voz. Cada uno tiene su lugar. Lo que pasa es que Kaus no se salió del estilo clasico, no se popularizo como los tres tenores. Muchos no conocen a Corelli y tambien fue fabuloso.

@luisenes tal vez por que su repertorio no incluía los grandes roles de tenor. Su timbre no era tan belloni tan luminoso como el de otros. Su canto era perfecto pero no era seductor. Y que me perdonen los fans de Don Alfredo.

Yes, i know what you said. You are right, Kraus never sang those roles. But Bergonzi, Corelli, Del Monaco sang them beautifully. Did they have the popularity of Pavarotti? No.

It is not the roles, it is marketing. Pavarotti and Domingo were constantly on TV, before football games, and stuff like that. So everyone knows them, even people who do not know what opera is.

To be popular, you have to appeal to average people, you have to show off a lot, to be on TV all the time. Kraus was absolutely not for mass consumption, or he would not be Kraus.

¿da los agudos en plena voz? no sé muy bien qué decir, pero, obviando las grandes diferencias entre ambas voces, esta interpretación me recuerda un poco a la de fleta.

impresionante, hace el más dificil todavia, canta el aria mucho más lenta y controla la respiración como nadie. Esta versión es más operistica que la que hizo con McDaniel

He sang some Napolitan songs for a small group of people in Lima, Peru after dinner. THe restaurant was closed for everyone except us. I was listening him at 3 meters distance. When he managed to block my right timpani, I turned sideways so I could listen him with the left. Great guy, unpretentious and a great sense of humour (he had lots of funny anecdotes). We miss him.

I question the date given on this recording because if one listens to the pearlfishers duett with Kraus and Mcdaniel wich is recorded 1975 his voice sounds much more matured and he sounds older in this aria.
