I don't even know how/why the Islamic republic came into power in the first place... Iranians are smart folks, the majority at least, and they know that Islam is full of shit. How could they let this happen? I watched this video of Khomeini landing in Iran for the first time and was asked how he felt bout it and he said NOTHING, literally nothing. Just that one word. and all the while thousands were chanting pro-khomeini bullshit. Anyways I hope the regime goes down soon
Christopher Hitchens is an idiot. President Obama would have been foolish to meddle in Iran's affairs. Had he intervened in any way the Iranian government would have accused the Iranian opposition of being puppets of the U.S., which they have done on previous occasions. The opposition in Iran has asked the U.S. State Department to stop funding so-called "pro-democracy" movements in Iran. Why should the U.S. meddle in everyone's affairs?
hitch shouldn't be too suprised at obama's inaction, since his trilateral commision connection (former cia director brzezinski)is the same traitor who coached carter(an even more stupid president than bush)into betraying the shah by handing iran to the islamofascist komeini.
the only prez not a trilateralist was reagan, the man who stared down that shit sucking communism, rather than kiss ass ,carter style.
our civilization's got enemies, some of them inside our own governments.
They just bring him on because morons like you havent got the attention span to listen to real commentators like Tony Judt or John Mearsheimer. Hitchens controversial style and right wing nonsense feeds into your general sense of ignorant superiority and endless stupidity. When did you last see him on UK tv? Hes NEVER on UK tv. Hes an American and internet star, therefore a star for simpletons like yourself old chap.
George Galloway exposed the smartass, Hitchens on many occasions. American media is not known for being informative. It reflects the ideology of its owners - the usual suspects. Hitchens smartass, substance free style, is accepted as expert opinion by the "simpletons".
@ScottKeith7025 -i say riddle the islamobastards with bullets, since they can't be reasoned with. why should the west try coexisting with cults and political systems that seek only to destroy us?
we have the power, so take 'em out, because that's what they'd do to us once they have enough numbers. i'd risk seeing the world destroyed than it turned into a slave race gulag planet.
What an intellectually weak spiel of piffle these two are having between themselves. "Did you hear about this or that..." What is this, a gossip show? Almost every word came out of their mouth is an indication to their lack of knowledge on Iranian affairs, how the government is operating there, and why so many still in bed with the oppressive regime. But leave it to blowhards to regurgitate every piece of drollery they happen to fancy at the moment and project it on to the screen tubes. Pfft!!!
Obama is a status quo president ~ U.S. policy has been to isolate Iran since the hostages were taken, up to the present saber-rattling over Iran's nuclear program. President Obama escalated the war in Afghanistan after running as a peace candidate against President Bush, whose Secretary of Defense Robert Gates Obama retained after being sworn in... We now live in a country where race is no longer a barrier to violating one's sacred oath to "protect & defend the Constitution"

When I was younger I used to play "Risk" with firends, the strategic war game. I am Irish. Hitchens is a laughing stock in Britain, no one of any importance takes him seriously. He imagines himself as the ultimate Risk commander, ordering young American and European men and women on military adventures and coldly shrugs as they return home in body bags, and in wheelchairs. He exemplifies all that was corrupt and sickening in the 19th Century British imperialist mentality.
I never thought I'd ever say this, I want so badly not to say this as I really am disgusted by Bush's job on almost everything, but I'm starting to miss Bush, at least he'd push Iran more and say something in favor of the Iranians who are rebelling against the regime.
I thought Obama was like Bush, until he dipped below him on foreign policy.
@Usaska Hitchens was probably refering to the fact that most of the country's population is under 25 or 35 (I don't immediately recall which) and in that sense makes it a "young" country.
Iran was or still is trying to build a nuke bomb. That puts the President of Iran under close watch by free nations. Iran is clearly also under watch for human rights abuses. If anything, the Iranian people are mostly good. Except for the sharia law and jihad doers. They are evil.
@MrJohnnyrace It clearly still is, it's doing it to find legitimacy through something in its people, so why would it stop? They're most likely trying to speed it up and not get caught, as they're in a serious situation. The regime is just done for though, as its going to be a losing battle on its part.
Leave Iran to us Iranians we will solve our own problem. We do not want Iran to become another Iraq. America changes governments for its own interests. America over through Musadeggs democratic, liberal, moderate government in Iran, because he nationalized oil.
@47saeed you wrote "Leave Iran to us Iranians we will solve our own problem. We do not want Iran to become another Iraq"
If you continue on the road towards nuclear weapons Iran will be the next Iraq, this is not a statement on right or wrong just a statement of reality.
@RomeAndMarty4Ever Iraq did not have weapons of mass destructions. Iran has natural resources that USA wants to control. USA will only not invade, if Iran has Nuclear weapons. USA would like to invade Iran, the fact or the excuse of nuclear weapons would be put forward as a reason.
@MrJohnnyrace I have no problem with the world watching. Invasion of Iran will make things worse for Iranians. China is not great on human rights, invade them, pick on someone your own size. Although china does not spend as much on its military as USA.
@47saeed Sorry, you loose. Its your turn to face the grim reaper. Iranians know their President is a madman. He will be the one who gets everyone killed.
@MrJohnnyrace I accept that if USA invades IRAN, People of Iran will lose, much worse they die. You clearly have no regard for human life. It is amazing how lightly you mention everyone dying.
@47saeed I have great reguard for human life. I have no reguard for a regime that controls, murders, and rigs voting booths to gain its stronghold. They also want Iscum to be the only religion and murder homosexuals. When their President finishes building his Nuclear bomb, he will use it someday soon. He is very evil. The people of Iran must revolt against his evil.
@MrJohnnyrace The Iranian government will try to stay in power by hook or by crook; this is not to say that they are irrational and would use nuclear weapons if they possessed them. To equate the persecution of homosexuals (which is very wrong) to use of Nuclear weapons which would wipe Iran off the map is nonsensical. Iran had nothing to do with 9/11, Iran has nothing to do with Taliban. Iran does back Hezbollah, this is a political act. USA backed the Mujahedin in Afghanistan.
@47saeed Well....they really are terrorists though....of their own people. They blew up the generation that might've grown up to support them. Now they're terrorizing the generation that wants them gone, and wants their freedom.
The US backed the Mujahedin only to stop the Soviets, it was seen as the lesser of 2 evils at the time.
@spartacandream It was the lesser of the two evils for USA, for Afghanistan it has proved to be disasters. Are you referring to the Iran Iraq war when you say; “they blow up the generation that might have grown up to help them”. The biggest blame and shame must fall on the Iranian government not finish the war earlier, we must also remember that Iraq attracted and invaded parts of Iran and USA gave political, military and intelligence support to Saddam.
@47saeed I'm not saying my government was in the right, I'm saying that they supported the side they thought was on their side at the time. We then declared war on Iraq becuase they invaded kuwait, tried to make peace with them, but they fired at us so we ended up giving up on the no fly zone idea and going to operation Iraqi freedom, and we were greeted as liberators for doing such.
@spartacandream When USA interferes in other countries affairs it does so for its own interests, when USA in 1953 overthrow the democratic, liberal government of Iran it gave no thought to the people of Iran. If you Americans want to invade Iran, at least have the honesty to say, we think there is small chance you may develop nuclear weapons, and there is even smaller chance you may use them, so we rather destroy your country.
@47saeed What do you expect the USA to do? No country will do anything outside of its own interest. Ever. I'm saying that as a matter of fact, and not because its a good thing.
@spartacandream The reality is Iran would never use Nuclear weapons and the fact is that UAS has used nuclear weapons. It is only racism and your media that makes you so certain that if Iran had nuclear weapons it would use them.
@47saeed Read my posts on this page, as you'll find that informing me that Iran wouldn't use those nuclear weapons is useless, as I already stated such. As for playing the racist card, that just shows a lack of character. Media bias? Well....There isnt anyone or anything without a bias, so get diverse sources, like anyone else who wants to know something does.
Though I've yet to hear that Iran wants to bomb the USA, maybe its just because I don't watch cable "news"
@spartacandream Why is all this talk about Iran developing nuclear weapons? This is to prepare the public for invasion of Iran. You may have stated that Iran will not be a nuclear threat, but it is stated or implied in the Media that Iran is a nuclear threat. Racism is a factor when it comes to Middle East amongst some of the public. There are human right violations in Iran but making Iran into another Iraq is not progress.
@47saeed You're right the media does try to use fear to make people support wars, though its not racism thats fuelling it. As Hitchins said with iraq, the american government tends to prefer to scare people instead of persuading them. Though its because its far simpler to scare people, even though its wrong to do it that way. Iran isn't really what they're worried about when it comes to nuclear weapons, as much as it is the proliferation that will follow after Iran in that area.
@spartacandream It is disappointing to see Hitchin backing an illegal war in Iraq. Even if USA managed to persuade the public that the invasion of Iraq was justifiable, it would still needed to have gone back to United Nation for ratification, which USA never did
@spartacandream This rumour mongering saying Iran may produce nuclear weapons, Iran may use them, other countries may do the same, is simply making the public ready for another illegal invasion. The problem is since the collapse of the Soviet Union, USA has very little need to show restraint, it can simply to peruse its immediate interests.
Good for Hitchens keeping things level! Kudlow doesn't give a rat's ass about the Iranian people. His main goal here was trying to find dirt on Obama, and if Obama had been rallying against the Iranian gov't Kudlow would probably have condemned him for that too. Larry Kudlow's opinion is next to worthless. He is the same "expert" who said we'd never have a recession - and he said this in early 2008. Why does anyone bother with this guy? His voice alone is enough to put me off permanently.
The right side of that issue was being supportive of democracy. I don't care about Kudlow's motives. Obama didn't say one word while these kids were getting beated, killed and raped for freedom and democracy.
The evil theocracy of Iran is protected by non other than the USA and Britain.
It has a job to do: exporting instability and chaos to the rest of the ME and harboring terrorist organizations like Alqiada who are doing a "great" job of destroying the basic fabric of ME societies and are a mojor tool to blackmail the rest of the ME .
Should things change in Iran, files would be open and the truth would come out. Who wants that?
cussing is the easiest thing to do and is the stuff that teenagers do all the time. The problem with your post is that it is coming from a person of your age.
I watched the protests on TV and through all of the banners and shouted slogans, I saw something that showed to me that this evil theocracy will end soon. It was simple thing... a man and a woman who were holding hands. When you consider the symbology of this simple human impulse, to feel close to those you love, a symbol of happy friendship... against the hatred and intolerance of these bigots who would stone them to death for doing it in public... that regime hasn't a chance. Game over.
I agree with you that this regime as we know it won't last, but you're incorrect about men and women holding hands in Iran. It's not a big deal and it is a common site in Iran.
iranians deserve far better than this.a very intelligent people with a tremendous pre islamic culture who i feel was not well served by mossadiq, a nice well educated man but too friendly to islamists and too indecisive to get a temporary u.s. contract in order to have his oil refinery techs trained and his oil shipping shielded from the english naval blockade.iran became hungry and had a stalinist army & agitators activated in the north as he vacillated like trotsky or gorbachev
The nuclear issue is blown up out of proportions. Iran is currently generating most of its energy by the use of self produced, inefficient combustion turbines. Any alternative to burning 1/3 of her gas reserves on generating electricity is a valid alternative in my opinion, especially when considering Iran has the world's second largest oil reserves.
Why should Iran want to be dependent on Russian or EU deliveries instead of struggling for self dependence in producing nuclear fuel?
No reasonable person would be opposed to any nation wishing to determine its own energy policy, but allowing theocratic corrupt fascists to have nuclear energy is not a reasonable policy.
I suggest the international community has the courage of its convictions. Certainly breaching the sovereighnty of another country is wrong, but Irans sovereingnty has already been breached by its own leaders. If we beleive in denmocracy and in human rights, then it follows that when a corrupt theocratic regeime claims sovereignty and dominion over the people of a country, in breach of international agreements, the international community is justified in getting involved.
Maybe the western powers getting involved is the root of the problem. Mossadegh who nationalized Iran's oil reserves and was the first to get democratically elected in the Iran's 5000-6000 year old history was removed from power by the west because they were concerned about his energy politics. He was replaced by the Shah who proved himself to be a weak who seemed more concerned about U.S. interests than internal issues.
I'm willing to coneed that US foreighn policy has been very misguided, following a far to interventionist aproach, and I would agree that the situation in Iran has been heavily influenced, and has resulted in what the CIA calls blowback. Unfortunatly aknowledging that doesn't change our present situation. The middle east situation has the real potential to go nuclear, I say that that is less likely to happen if Irans leadership were not as it is.
i hate to say it. but obama has gone into his shell when it comes to his so called infatuation with human liberty. america refuses to recognise the potential revolution in iran because they simply don't want to get on the bad side (angry side) of the islamic republic. they're fucking scared. if america was to intervene in a foreign countrys fight for democracy (not oil) then this would be a far greater and potentially succesful 'campaign.'
they arent just there for the oil, they are there to eliminate the terrorist threat i mean its not that fucking complicated. if i was president and 2 of the countries greatest monuments were taken down at the cost of 2000 lives i would be invading the countries which possess the source of the threat, its not like al-qaida comes from anywhere but the middleast for fuck sakes. the iraqi war could have purposly been for oil but atleast they took away a genocidal dictator.
"they are there to eliminate the terrorist threat i mean its not that fucking complicated."
The only threat from terrorists is retaliation for invading their countries, terrorizing their civilians, overthrowing their governments, installing puppet regimes and stealing their natural resources.
If you were familiar with the history of the region and the foreign policy of the US you'd realize that actually it IS that fucking complicated.
@m3141592 so are you saying that alqaida doesent originate from that area? are you saying they arent capable of planning terrorist attacks world wide? are you saying that the petro prices arent rising?
No, obviously not, or I would have said that. But feel free to further reveal your ignorance by telling us about the ill-conceived straw man you have in mind.
Terrorism isn't right or defensible, but thinking it just happens without a cause or is just a muslim thing is both ignorant and foolish.
@m3141592 "Terrorism isn't right or defensible, but thinking it just happens without a cause or is just a muslim thing is both ignorant and foolish." of course its not a muslim thing considoring its an ideology from the dark ages that still practises slavery, stoning, ritual beheadings and still covers their women head to toe in table cloths. not like they dont blow the shit out of eachother anyway in islamic countries without any foreign intervention.
obama has been careful not to openly support the iranian dissidents because any utterances would be seen to show that the unrest was american initiated and the mullahs can crush it even more ruthlessly.
American intervention in Middle East and other parts of the world have been disasterous we need to stop making moral judgements and pretending we have the higher ground, its time we stop before our "empire crumbles'
Do we not export terror with our operations both covert and known throughout the world. Read the history of US intervention in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Its a bit of the case of the pot calling the kettle black no?
I dont think we care about these countries because of their moral lackings. I think the American government cares about Iran,Iraq etc because of their natural resources, the fact that they are countries not yet fully saturated by capitalism, because of their political ideals and their relationship with Israel.
@aussieguy2109 Yes you are absoloutely correct. Resources, markets to exploit and open up for US corporations. My whole beef is be honest to people about it. Dont pretend we are trying or caring to spread democracy, or to help the people of the region (we dont give half a fuck about people in our country, you are telling me we care about some brown skinned people a world away? gimme a break) but if they dont pretend its for these reasons then peple have a problem with "killing for oil"
Oh wow! I can't believe idiots like you just say what ever! Anyone who knows Hitchens knows how much he has worked for Palestinian rights! How does that make him being owned by Jewish people or whatever? He's anti-religion to begin with!
there is not west vs east. its ruling classes vs the poor peasents. they rule by creating the 'west vs. east" and all governments rub theyre ppl blind. so of course obama is not doing anything, the US loves the islamic republic. its their cashcow in the midest. to scare arabs and blame iran in order for israel to become more militarized to "protect" itself. then of course US and israel wont suppor the poor ppl in iran to free them selves, they r benefiting from their pain. simple as that
I'm an Iranian, do I have your permission to talk? Thanks! ok so here it goes:
scare arabs by blaming Iran? Blaming them for what? If they don't do anything then what's there to be blamed for? If you have lived on earth and have opened your eyes and ears to the happenings in the Middle East you would know why Arab countries are affraid of the Islamic Republic in Iran and it has nothing to do with the west doing anything to make it, it's the Iranian regime itself who brought this!
i dont think u get my comment. im balmig BOTH. theyr all in it together. look @ mojahedin (which i dont agree with) however theyr human were beating & killed by iraqis in iraq while US was ment to protect them. so where was the US? how come now US is not even bothering to show whats going on in iranian streets. instead this loser obama comes & negotiates with IRI, why now? why when everyone knows what they do to our ppl? becasue IRI is the US cash cow & US doesnt want it to go. does that explain
btw i dont think US has to do anything for us. everyones looking out for themselves & they dont owe iran anything. im not here to wine about the west. Im just saying that the islamic republics BS about west is against them is exactly that BUllshit. west is for them & yes i do blame islamic republic for many horibble things that happened to iran & the world & of course u can talk i would be a hypocrete to hate islamic republic for lack of freedom & not to hear u out, ur always welcome to share
So how come Pres. Khatami managed to make Saudi Arabia a good friend and partner for Iran and Ahmadinjead made the same country Iran's #1 enemy in a few months? how do you explain the contrast? This is just an example of how the regime operates! They MAKE enemies, no one wakes up in the morning saying oh today I want to hate Iran and be its enemy!
in what sense were iran & saudi arabia good friends during khatimi? can u explain?
i can back up my statement, in iraq and in lebonan and in yeman iran is funding the SHIA, while saudi arabia being afraid of shia influence is funding sunni. in iraq the suadis want US to stay because if it leavs shia majority will rule, hence they pay US to keep soldiers there. saudi arabia & iran where never partners during this regime, maybe less hostile 2 eachother but NEVER friends
theyre all in it together. the west uses islamic republic to drain the mideast of its oil and have military presence, by scaring everyone of the "possible iranian dominance". Israel uses the islamic republic to kill poor palestinian. and the islamic republic uses the west to blame everything on them.
They r all in it together to rule us.
devide and conquer, isnt that the old moto? islamic republic is there to devide the mideast into shiite, sunni. kurd, arab and make it easy to conquer
Dude, do you have any idea how competant a group of human beings would have to be to "Run the World"?
Have you ever seen any organization more powerful than a sports team work together effectively, ever? And on top of that, it'd have to work so effectively that no one can prove it's existence either.
People who believe in conspiracy shit have more faith in humanity than I do, and I'm a capital-H Humanist.
conspiracies are not about people who are smarter, but people hwo are more powerful and have more influence, if George Bush can be the most powerful man in the world, how powerful do you think the most competant, intelligent and ambstious people are?
Ronald Reagan was one of the greatest presidents in America's history. He wasn't perfect, but he did accomplish many great things. Even President Obama has said as much before.
"Ugly, splotchy youths who can't get a date are being given guns and told that they're special. And can do what they like to young women on the street."
I'm now offically a supporter of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Allah Akbar!
this interviewer is a bit pathetic he asks about revolution hitchens asks him if he want's a quote from Lenin the perhaps most famous revolutionary and the interviewer sais no just because it's lenin.
It's like saying LA LA LA LA I can't hear you, well americans are not open minded to anything that's not american and he prooves it.
after, he said it after. first he did not want to hear about it but hitchens said it anyway, so don't accuse me of beeing, so don't you dare accuse me of anything
Considering the irregular nature of Obama's and the Democrats 'victory', with the aid of ACORN and other 'vote registration' drives. With the questionable fundraising activities. I'm not surprised the Mossiah is sitting this one out. It would easily draw too many comparisons with this own election results.
Hitchens is smart! Kudlow is empty! Both are wrong on this issue.
US choosing sides in Iran will back fire. People who understand Iran don't dispute this. If US were to do this, it would strengthen, again, strengthen the regime. Obama is very well advised on this.
you have just successfully summarized every host and anchorman in the news who has forgotten that the key to perfect, unbiased news coverage is stoicism in the face of any atrocity
Are you saying that because it will be some sort of world justice if the United States looses power? No you are saying that because it personally benefits your power stance - no rational person would fight against their own best interests so be real and admit its selfishness like anyone else, not a righteous demand for world justice and peace lol
I'm saying that the world is a fairer and more just place if the United States loses power. It's not a selfishness to feel disgust and anger at the abuses of power perutrated by your nation. Make any assumpion you wish but they are assumptions.
Do you realize the chaos that would ensue from the "fall of the American empire?" Look what happened to the world economy just from a small recession in the U.S.
Wish in one hand and shit in the other fuckwit. The one that fills up first is just a small representation of what you and the rest of the world would be living in without the benefit of the U.S.
Hate all you want, but be careful what you wish for. And for christ's sake, read a book. You're cutting off you nose to spite your face.
I can't fit what i want to say into this box so i'll keep it brief. My wishes are not for a collapse of economy but more to a reduction of policing the world.
Why the insults? A response without it was not sufficient? Tell that to the family's of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Palestine. See how they feel about what the U.S. has done. Raped their human rights describes it. Land of the free? I think more likely the land of whatever you can make and take. Don't respond please. Your scum.
Sorry you wish to be left alone while posting hate messages in an open forum but you're getting a response.
The atrocities committed by the U.S. pale in comparison to those done throughout the rest of the world. Our foreign policy is too expansive and I won't defend that. But your earlier comment indicated apathy for 300 mil American lives and the billions of other relying on U.S. goods, services, commerce and protection.
Insults are hurled at the ignorant and self righteous. Like you, dick.
Give any rsponse you wish and you can give whatever terminology you wish. I call it voicing an opinion held by the majority. I mean after all Americans aren't that in tune with the outside world. You imply that without American product there would be no products, commerce etc. America isn't needed. There are alternate products. You have no understand of the outside world, and you claim i'm self righteous and ignorant. Hypocricy is an awful thing. I won't respond with an insult due to decency:).
Then do something about it! Petition whatever gov't you live under to boycott American goods, services, political alliances, etc. Stop wasting your time in youtube's comment sections.
I would love for you to see what would happen if America was gone for only a month since you think it isn't needed.
And I think we can add hypocrisy to the list of YOUR descriptors since you speak of your decency here and tell me to fuck myself in earlier posts.
You should realise the U.K. are America's bitches. It's known well here in britain that we can do little to change the system.
I would like to see what happens to. I think it would be a more peaceful place. I don't know about you but the worlds been a worse place since the U.S. decided that it was the world police and that bombing Pakistan ( one of it's allies ) to shit was a necessary action. I don't hate the U.S. i just think less military involvement is necessary.
I completely agree with you that less military involvment is necessary. If you had said that in the first place we wouldn't have been at odds.
I voted against bush twice and so did everyone I know but he still got elected.
Americans are not American policy and I believe that we can change things for the better. Not in the next ten years, maybe not in the next 50 but America IS a force for good. It's just misdirected at the moment. We're working on it, friend. At least, I hope we are.
Well my ideology is that an empire is built on military interventions so that was what my reference was.
Americans vote people in who make policy though. It's the same as Brits do. Anyone and everyone can do things for the better but the matter is wether they actually do it. Americans are a force for the most part. However your government i would have to be on the opposing side on that. Whilst we allow ourselves to be told what to do, there is little chance of equality and freedom.
See we are America's bitches....although my own country ( Scotland ) stuck a big "fuck you" two fingers right up to America and I'm not gonna lie......it felt good. Thing is, with the Scottish Nationalist government wanting Scotland's seperation from the UK, we could end up with an oil rich, independant, nuclear equipped Scotland ! imagine that! But as long as we are Britian we are America's bitch. Shame to see our great rivals England submit so much. England were a strong and powerful nation .
For the first part of your comment, even though i don't know you.. i think i'm in love:P. I don't believe in scotlands nationalism as the oil is running out. However if we progress with renewable energy, tourist trade etc we can then become one. Is it viable the now i don't think so but it could be in the future. America is majorly hypocritical, the judge our system, even though they have guantanamo, what they did to palestine, the countless deaths of children in war. Pot kettle black:D
Yeah, damn those fucking engineers! That circuit board could have been made the right way! Oh well:) i'll have to go back in time and stop jesus from dying for our sins. It's unrelated just on my to do list.
Nuclear equipped??? What, are you gonna demand some of England's arsenal on your separation? That would never happen. more like England protecting your scottish asses after separation.

Iran had an election, that is democracy. Why has america chosen to start on Irans political issues? Perhaps the imperialist agenda. You never see the united states attack or defend a nation they cannot get some sort of gain from. America care about two things. Money and control. Why haven't america intervened in sudan or zimbabwe? Because they have no financial benefit. I don't side with Iran as i do not side with religion or homophobia. But i detest hypocricy. U.S.A - Free? I don't think so.
Incorrect. Having an election does not make a nation democratic. Iran had and has repeatedly had sham elections, in which a group of senile old Islamist clerics get to pick and choose the few candidates that are deemed able to run for office. Iraq under Saddam Hussein had "elections". Burma, under a violent military junta, has had "elections." Would you seriously contend those nations were democracies? If you fear the US over Iran, you're foolish in the extreme.
As i remember America felt George Bush was not truly elected. Now it is reported to be a sham election by the main stream media who have an agenda and a message to promote. I fear the US because the US has a lot more influence than Iran. The US are slowly but surely using their economic andmilitary strength to show their power by attacking and de-stabilizing nations. Question though, why does America not report or involve themselves in situations like Zimbabwe. I think the answer is clear.
Hitch is so right - Obama seems to think, because denouncing evil didn't make it go away, calling it the elected government might. When we can't even call a spade a spade - the fascists have already got their fingers around our throats.
what a load of tosh. the yanks kicked out the most democratic iranian govt of all time and installed a tyrant and now they want to support the people of iran-what after getting iraq to blow them up and use chemical weapons on them or maybe its to say sorry for blowing up a civilian airliner -murdering women and children and all.
The question is where are persian democratic parties?!!
There are no democratic opposition in Iran. There is not a single persian party outside Iran that believe in liberty, democracy and national rights for the other 5 nations in Iran.
This is the main reason why president Obama or the EU are reluctant to interfer.
I mean interfer on behalf of whom?
The people in Teheran are shouting "allahu Achbar" !!
two people couldn't have more contrasting accents

Christopher Hitchens is an idiot. President Obama would have been foolish to meddle in Iran's affairs. Had he intervened in any way the Iranian government would have accused the Iranian opposition of being puppets of the U.S., which they have done on previous occasions.

RomeAndMarty4Ever 1 year ago
@RomeAndMarty4Ever Iraq did not have weapons of mass destructions. Iran has natural resources that USA wants to control. USA will only not invade, if Iran has Nuclear weapons. USA would like to invade Iran, the fact or the excuse of nuclear weapons would be put forward as a reason.

@MrJohnnyrace I have no problem with the world watching. Invasion of Iran will make things worse for Iranians. China is not great on human rights, invade them, pick on someone your own size. Although china does not spend as much on its military as USA.

@MrJohnnyrace I accept that if USA invades IRAN, People of Iran will lose, much worse they die. You clearly have no regard for human life. It is amazing how lightly you mention everyone dying.
47saeed 1 year ago
@47saeed I have great reguard for human life. I have no reguard for a regime that controls, murders, and rigs voting booths to gain its stronghold. They also want Iscum to be the only religion and murder homosexuals. When their President finishes building his Nuclear bomb, he will use it someday soon. He is very evil. The people of Iran must revolt against his evil.
MrJohnnyrace 1 year ago
@MrJohnnyrace The Iranian government will try to stay in power by hook or by crook; this is not to say that they are irrational and would use nuclear weapons if they possessed them. To equate the persecution of homosexuals (which is very wrong) to use of Nuclear weapons which would wipe Iran off the map is nonsensical. Iran had nothing to do with 9/11, Iran has nothing to do with Taliban. Iran does back Hezbollah, this is a political act. USA backed the Mujahedin in Afghanistan.
47saeed 1 year ago
@47saeed Well....they really are terrorists though....of their own people. They blew up the generation that might've grown up to support them. Now they're terrorizing the generation that wants them gone, and wants their freedom.
The US backed the Mujahedin only to stop the Soviets, it was seen as the lesser of 2 evils at the time.
spartacandream 1 year ago
@spartacandream It was the lesser of the two evils for USA, for Afghanistan it has proved to be disasters. Are you referring to the Iran Iraq war when you say; “they blow up the generation that might have grown up to help them”. The biggest blame and shame must fall on the Iranian government not finish the war earlier, we must also remember that Iraq attracted and invaded parts of Iran and USA gave political, military and intelligence support to Saddam.
47saeed 1 year ago
@47saeed I'm not saying my government was in the right, I'm saying that they supported the side they thought was on their side at the time. We then declared war on Iraq becuase they invaded kuwait, tried to make peace with them, but they fired at us so we ended up giving up on the no fly zone idea and going to operation Iraqi freedom, and we were greeted as liberators for doing such.
spartacandream 1 year ago
@spartacandream When USA interferes in other countries affairs it does so for its own interests, when USA in 1953 overthrow the democratic, liberal government of Iran it gave no thought to the people of Iran. If you Americans want to invade Iran, at least have the honesty to say, we think there is small chance you may develop nuclear weapons, and there is even smaller chance you may use them, so we rather destroy your country.
47saeed 1 year ago
@47saeed What do you expect the USA to do? No country will do anything outside of its own interest. Ever. I'm saying that as a matter of fact, and not because its a good thing.
Liberal by whose standards btw?
spartacandream 1 year ago
@spartacandream The reality is Iran would never use Nuclear weapons and the fact is that UAS has used nuclear weapons. It is only racism and your media that makes you so certain that if Iran had nuclear weapons it would use them.
47saeed 1 year ago
@47saeed Read my posts on this page, as you'll find that informing me that Iran wouldn't use those nuclear weapons is useless, as I already stated such. As for playing the racist card, that just shows a lack of character. Media bias? Well....There isnt anyone or anything without a bias, so get diverse sources, like anyone else who wants to know something does.
Though I've yet to hear that Iran wants to bomb the USA, maybe its just because I don't watch cable "news"
spartacandream 1 year ago
@spartacandream Why is all this talk about Iran developing nuclear weapons? This is to prepare the public for invasion of Iran. You may have stated that Iran will not be a nuclear threat, but it is stated or implied in the Media that Iran is a nuclear threat. Racism is a factor when it comes to Middle East amongst some of the public. There are human right violations in Iran but making Iran into another Iraq is not progress.
47saeed 1 year ago
@47saeed You're right the media does try to use fear to make people support wars, though its not racism thats fuelling it. As Hitchins said with iraq, the american government tends to prefer to scare people instead of persuading them. Though its because its far simpler to scare people, even though its wrong to do it that way. Iran isn't really what they're worried about when it comes to nuclear weapons, as much as it is the proliferation that will follow after Iran in that area.
spartacandream 1 year ago
@spartacandream It is disappointing to see Hitchin backing an illegal war in Iraq. Even if USA managed to persuade the public that the invasion of Iraq was justifiable, it would still needed to have gone back to United Nation for ratification, which USA never did
47saeed 1 year ago

It was simple thing... a man and a woman who were holding hands. When you consider the symbology of this simple human impulse, to feel close to those you love, a symbol of happy friendship... against the hatred and intolerance of these bigots who would stone them to death for doing it in public... that regime hasn't a chance. bademoxy 2 years ago
Why should Iran want to be dependent on Russian or EU deliveries instead of struggling for self dependence in producing nuclear fuel?
cplusplus84 2 years ago
@cplusplus84
No reasonable person would be opposed to any nation wishing to determine its own energy policy, but allowing theocratic corrupt fascists to have nuclear energy is not a reasonable policy.
ReverandCiderMan 2 years ago
@ReverandCiderMan
I suppose you suggest we dictate Iranian policy or force them to compromise on their sovereignty, none of which is reasonable
cplusplus84 2 years ago
@cplusplus84
ReverandCiderMan 2 years ago
@ReverandCiderMan
Maybe the western powers getting involved is the root of the problem. Mossadegh who nationalized Iran's oil reserves and was the first to get democratically elected in the Iran's 5000-6000 year old history was removed from power by the west because they were concerned about his energy politics. He was replaced by the Shah who proved himself to be a weak who seemed more concerned about U.S. interests than internal issues.
cplusplus84 2 years ago
I'm willing to coneed that US foreighn policy has been very misguided, following a far to interventionist aproach, and I would agree that the situation in Iran has been heavily influenced, and has resulted in what the CIA calls blowback. Unfortunatly aknowledging that doesn't change our present situation. The middle east situation has the real potential to go nuclear, I say that that is less likely to happen if Irans leadership were not as it is.
ReverandCiderMan 2 years ago
i hate to say it. but obama has gone into his shell when it comes to his so called infatuation with human liberty. america refuses to recognise the potential revolution in iran because they simply don't want to get on the bad side (angry side) of the islamic republic. they're fucking scared. if america was to intervene in a foreign countrys fight for democracy (not oil) then this would be a far greater and potentially succesful 'campaign.'
trailofdeadpeople 2 years ago
they arent just there for the oil, they are there to eliminate the terrorist threat i mean its not that fucking complicated. if i was president and 2 of the countries greatest monuments were taken down at the cost of 2000 lives i would be invading the countries which possess the source of the threat, its not like al-qaida comes from anywhere but the middleast for fuck sakes. the iraqi war could have purposly been for oil but atleast they took away a genocidal dictator.
hamfish66 2 years ago
"they are there to eliminate the terrorist threat i mean its not that fucking complicated."
The only threat from terrorists is retaliation for invading their countries, terrorizing their civilians, overthrowing their governments, installing puppet regimes and stealing their natural resources.

Considering the irregular nature of Obama's and the Democrats 'victory', with the aid of ACORN and other 'vote registration' drives. With the questionable fundraising activities. I'm not surprised the Mossiah is sitting this one out. It would easily draw too many comparisons with this own election results.

Obama turned out to make the right choice here. Otherwise they would blame the US for interfearence.

I like how Hitchens remains professional and reserved and undermines Kudlows silly remarks on how Obama is in favor of the Irans totalitarian regime.
HailRasec 2 years ago 2
Hitchens is smart! Kudlow is empty! Both are wrong on this issue.
US choosing sides in Iran will back fire. People who understand Iran don't dispute this. If US were to do this, it would strengthen, again, strengthen the regime. Obama is very well advised on this.

Are you saying that because it will be some sort of world justice if the United States looses power? No you are saying that because it personally benefits your power stance - no rational person would fight against their own best interests so be real and admit its selfishness like anyone else, not a righteous demand for world justice and peace lol
dh234 2 years ago

LazyIrish829 2 years ago
I can't fit what i want to say into this box so i'll keep it brief. My wishes are not for a collapse of economy but more to a reduction of policing the world.
Why the insults? A response without it was not sufficient? Tell that to the family's of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Palestine. See how they feel about what the U.S. has done. Raped their human rights describes it. Land of the free? I think more likely the land of whatever you can make and take. Don't respond please. Your scum.
Improbable0possible 2 years ago
Sorry you wish to be left alone while posting hate messages in an open forum but you're getting a response.
The atrocities committed by the U.S. pale in comparison to those done throughout the rest of the world. Our foreign policy is too expansive and I won't defend that. But your earlier comment indicated apathy for 300 mil American lives and the billions of other relying on U.S. goods, services, commerce and protection.
Insults are hurled at the ignorant and self righteous. Like you, dick.
LazyIrish829 2 years ago
Give any rsponse you wish and you can give whatever terminology you wish. I call it voicing an opinion held by the majority. I mean after all Americans aren't that in tune with the outside world. You imply that without American product there would be no products, commerce etc. America isn't needed. There are alternate products. You have no understand of the outside world, and you claim i'm self righteous and ignorant. Hypocricy is an awful thing. I won't respond with an insult due to decency:).
Improbable0possible 2 years ago
Then do something about it! Petition whatever gov't you live under to boycott American goods, services, political alliances, etc. Stop wasting your time in youtube's comment sections.
I would love for you to see what would happen if America was gone for only a month since you think it isn't needed.
And I think we can add hypocrisy to the list of YOUR descriptors since you speak of your decency here and tell me to fuck myself in earlier posts.
I'm no hypocrite. I'm consistent, asshole.
LazyIrish829 2 years ago
You should realise the U.K. are America's bitches. It's known well here in britain that we can do little to change the system.
I would like to see what happens to. I think it would be a more peaceful place. I don't know about you but the worlds been a worse place since the U.S. decided that it was the world police and that bombing Pakistan ( one of it's allies ) to shit was a necessary action. I don't hate the U.S. i just think less military involvement is necessary.
Improbable0possible 2 years ago
I completely agree with you that less military involvment is necessary. If you had said that in the first place we wouldn't have been at odds.
I voted against bush twice and so did everyone I know but he still got elected.
Americans are not American policy and I believe that we can change things for the better. Not in the next ten years, maybe not in the next 50 but America IS a force for good. It's just misdirected at the moment. We're working on it, friend. At least, I hope we are.
LazyIrish829 2 years ago
Well my ideology is that an empire is built on military interventions so that was what my reference was.
Americans vote people in who make policy though. It's the same as Brits do. Anyone and everyone can do things for the better but the matter is wether they actually do it. Americans are a force for the most part. However your government i would have to be on the opposing side on that. Whilst we allow ourselves to be told what to do, there is little chance of equality and freedom.
Peace

See we are America's bitches....although my own country ( Scotland ) stuck a big "fuck you" two fingers right up to America and I'm not gonna lie......it felt good. Thing is, with the Scottish Nationalist government wanting Scotland's seperation from the UK, we could end up with an oil rich, independant, nuclear equipped Scotland ! imagine that! But as long as we are Britian we are America's bitch. Shame to see our great rivals England submit so much. England were a strong and powerful nation .
untamedromeo 2 years ago
For the first part of your comment, even though i don't know you.. i think i'm in love:P. I don't believe in scotlands nationalism as the oil is running out. However if we progress with renewable energy, tourist trade etc we can then become one. Is it viable the now i don't think so but it could be in the future. America is majorly hypocritical, the judge our system, even though they have guantanamo, what they did to palestine, the countless deaths of children in war. Pot kettle black:D

Improbable0possible 2 years ago
If you fear the US over Iran, you're foolish in the extreme.
existentialdreams 2 years ago 3
As i remember America felt George Bush was not truly elected. Now it is reported to be a sham election by the main stream media who have an agenda and a message to promote. I fear the US because the US has a lot more influence than Iran. The US are slowly but surely using their economic andmilitary strength to show their power by attacking and de-stabilizing nations. Question though, why does America not report or involve themselves in situations like Zimbabwe. I think the answer is clear.

Where is Obama ?!!!!!!
