HAKEEM OLAJUWON simply deserves to be included along with MICHAEL JORDAN, KAREEM ABDUL-JABAR, WILT CHAMBERLAIN, MAGIC JOHNSON, LARRY BIRD, BILL RUSSELL, JULIUS ERVIN, OSCAR ROBERTSON and MOSES MALONE in the elite list of THE TEN (10) GREATEST PLAYERS IN NBA HISTORY. Never underestimate the Heart of a Champion. Thanks Hakeem.
the greatest center of all times, the third greatest player and most importantly, the most honourable basketball player ever. He graced the game with his presence. Never have I seen such a humble, principled superstar.
kareem has the sky hook, wilt has the pure inside dominance, russell is the greatest defensive player ever but the dream can do it all. he is quick, strong, athletic, he has the dream shake, the jump hook, the fade away and on each move, he has a counter move. he has no weakness. shaq is so lucky he didnt go up against a much younger hakeem that singlehandedly dismantled a powerhouse la lakers in 86. he got his chance in 95 against a 32 yo hakeem but his ass was served.
The dream has this aura that everytime he goes out of the locker room, his team will always have a chance of winning. Jordan has it, Magic, Bird, ISiah and now Kobe. There will be no other center like him. Critics will say its Kareem, Russell or Wilt as the greatest center ever, but man, take those mvp's, rings, stats out of the window, just focus on the overall impact in the game, the pure talent and dominance, he is number one. no other center moves like him, plays like him. he is the best
watching this video, cant help but think of hakeem as the optimus prime of all centers. just like in the movies the transformers, the autobots are always outnumbered, outsized but what they have is a great leader that equalizes every advantage the decepticons have over them. just watch him carried his team when sampson was gone, going up against teams with legit two to three all stars. amazing. truly, an all time great.
The twin towers could have built a dynasty in houston. if sampson just took good care of his body, and the rockets just added a solid pg, they could have supplanted the lakers as the team to beat in the west. dream could have won at least 5 rings, three mvp's and respect that he truly deserve as the greatest big man ever to play the game. anyways, his 94-95 rings just solidified his place as among the greatest and he will always be remembered as greatest foreign born player ever.
I swear if he would have had Pippen as his sidekick and Jordan didnt Hakeem would be known as the greatest player ever... The guy is so underappreciated it sickens me. He won his first title with less help than anyone who has ever won a championship
@jreimold34 I consider Olajuwon the best center to play the game, but please show some respect to the GOAT of the game, His Airness Michael Jordan. Praise them for the fact they didn't decide to pair up and dominate the league for 12 years winning 12 rings each. They loved to compete against each other and that's what makes them the best. Today's NBA starlets prefer to have strong players on their side to make everything easier.
@yowyOw69 Jordan has all my respect... Im just dishing it out to Hakeem too... In 94 he won a title with Otis Thorpe, Robert Horry, Vernon Maxwell, and Kenny Smith as his other 4 starters... Major props to Hakeem AND MJ. Favorite Jordan vid is MJ vs Lebron how quickly they forget, go check it out!
@jreimold34 I've watched it many times. But today, I've watched it just before this one :P . Yeps, Olajuwon won that ring without big names by his side, but remember that no one wins a ring by himself. Jordan's Bulls were not there, so he had the chance to show everybody why we think he is the best center ever. But he & MJ couldn't do it in their prime because they had to face the best NBA team ever (80s Celtics), one of the best (80s Lakers) and the best defensive team ever (Detroit Bad Boys).
@yowyOw69 what do you mean MJ couldn't do it in his prime? MJ won a 3 peat ('91-93) in his prime. MJ was prime from 1987-93. Wouldv'e been prime from 1987-95 had he not have gone to baseball.
I think MJ is the Greatest of all time , but Hakeem is the best center of all time there is no center like him ... He is not the Greatest but when people talk about basketball he must be mentioned with other great players ...
The best choice back then to pick Hakeem, Houston rockets wouldn't be known for 2 championships without him. Hakeem is the one who made Rockets known to be the best with 2 championships in their life time.
i think hakeem was better than jabbar and any center before and after him, but nobody dares to say it loud because of the records jabbar and others got. like russell and chamberlain. but seriously, i think hakeems rockets are the only team i can think of being able to beat the bulls at least in one final series of the 90s.
7 feet tall w/ the footwork & hand speed of a guard. A dream shake that made his shots nearly as unblockable as Kareem's sky hook.
Brilliant Passer, consistent perimeter shot, multitude of low-post moves, can create his own shot off the dribble, ability to dominate a team defensively without entering foul trouble.
====
You can build a dynasty with Hakeem as your best player. Hakeem dominated Center when the NBA had multiple HOF centers throughout the league.
people forget that this gentleman did beat the best centers of his era ... David Robinson in the WCF of 1995 When David Robinson Was the MVP of that year and Hakeem crush David, Patrick Ewing in the 1994 NBA Finals and Shaq in the 1995 NBA Finals... People, Shaq was the most dominant center in the 90's, but the only thing that Shaq did and does is dunk the ball, Hakeem was more a complete player... HAKEEM WAS A BEAST!!!!!
Might sound a bit corny, but watching The Dream play basketball was a work of art. Centers today don't even come close to the greatness that was Hakeem Olajuwon.
so many people doesn't like the plays of houston at this period but they give me a lot of emotion with the two title in the middle of the 90's.Big men,big player, big carreer, big life, hakeem so great.thanks for this video.that's remind a lot of good times.
My favorite player of all time.. a beast on and off the court.. ive had the pleasure of meeting him 3 times and i can say all 3 were some of my greatest experiences ever.. the dream will live on!
best Hakeem Olajuwon mix, great soundtrack also. Def my favorite center all time. To me he had the best of all of the greats put together. Like a mix of Russell, Chamberlin, and Jabbar all in one to make the greatest center of all time. Although none of those were as agile as he was.
a rare combination of power, finesse, quickness and agility. the only player who comes close is david robinson but everyone knew how the dream demolished the myth of the admiral. some would say that wilt and shaq are more dominant. but if you will compare their games to hakeem, these two are very limited offensively. in defense, these two can only rebound, block and intimidate. hakeem can do it all. rebound, block, intimidate, steal,a great post and face up defender. simply numero uno.
most graceful center of all time hands down!!!!!!! an to think of how late he started playin the game is jst eye poppin.......his passion is wat really got me!!!!!! he could will his time to victory wit skil an heart.....aaaaaaaaa-mazing
forget about shaq, duncan, chamberlin, russel, abdul-jabbar and so on. hakeem olajuwon is the most graceful centers in NBA history. and btw, this video is totally EPIC; just like hakeem himself!
best center to ever play the game, hands down ! yeah, better than bill russell, wilt chamberlain and all that shit, don't forget, the league of olajuwon is much better than the league of wilt and bill .
I just wanted to thank everyone for their comments Hakeem was easily my favorite player ever and is often overlooked when people mention the greats who've played the game. If I was able to help people relive his unique talent through this video then my job here is done.

The dream shake on Shawn Bradley at 1:17 is beautiful. Hakeem has the best footwork of any big man to ever play the game. Better than Wilt, Kareem, Russell, Shaq, Robinson, Ewing, or Duncan. The NBA centers are so overrated now. Even the best big men in the league right now would have gotten chewed up and spit out in the early 90s.
