Correct me on this if I'm way off but.

I believe the lines he said to Kefka, Shantotto and Jecht are referrences to the original game.

Kefka because Zorn and Thorn (The jesters to Queen Brahne) look like him and are almost too easy to beat.

Shantotto because he said the exact same thing to Garnet during the Lindblum Monster hunt festival.

Jecht because Garland was _kind of_ his old man and he refused to lose to him.

@Renkel76 well actually this is the original concept art style for zidane in both clothes and height, the one from the original game was the final design for him, matter of fact all te characters in dissidia are drawn in their original concept art, I think clouds the only one who was already drawn the same as his orignal design for the ff7 game. ^_^

@startwl5 Well actually Zidane originallly was created by Amano-san, one of the FF creators before Tetsuya-sensei. When I say new art, I am referring to Tetsuya's version of the charaters! Amano's versions are ok, but Tetsuya Nomura's are my favorite! ^,^

I luv Nomura's art I do, the designs for characters and such are great kingdom hearts especially, but I like Amano's better for the originality of it, since it seems so like something I'd see at an Art Museum, since I love art museum's especially to see paintings, so yeah I love Amano's whispy lines and vibrant use of color and how his art looks like japanese brush paintings, also I love and hate the fact that I absolutely can't copy it, tetsuya's I could copy any of his art, but amano's no. : )

@Renkel76 you realize that all the characters in dissidia are designed based on Amano's original concepts? hense why tidus' collar is kinda a rip design and why Bartz has such a flowing shoulder pad

@RoyRenegade No not all of them Roy. The earlier ones were done by Amano, Tetsuya did some of the later ones. (FF 7, 8, 10, and 13) I believe :3 Amano was replaced by Tetsuya at that time. Because I grew up knowing Nomura's design style, I love it alot, especially as an artist myself. Amono is good but his art is not what I see for video game characters :) My opinion.

@Renkel76 I know thats the truth for the games them selves, but having seen the concept designs for the games by amano, and then playing dissidia, you can see that they were basing the character looks off amano, Tetsuya did the final concepts, but amano is what they based them on

@RoyRenegade Hmmm. I fail to see the difference for some of them, so it would be all the characters, only the chosen few :). Also I dont care about the outfits, only the art style. Plus they all still share that resemblance to their original art style sooo Im happy ^_^, especially with the ones made by Nomura+Zidane!
