bad relationships and bad kids and lost of stress in their lives but feel

they need all that shit. You avoid those things and exercise you will

    stay young and vibrant also.

  • Just plain awesomeness... feeling the groove, feeling the soul. Life's great.

  • Music and the music industry should be more like this. You can truly tell that he enjoys what he is doing with every ounce of his being.

  • As a big man I'd love the number to Mr. Bacon's tailor.

  • This is a gem!

  • I NEED to kiss this man!

  • What a beautiful chocolate man!

  • Bet they are in skinny suits! My dad and his best man wore their skinny suits for his wedding day -- back in 1970! Smooove!

  • Clearly 3 idiots watched this.

  • I loved Mr. Saadiq's music when he was with Tony Toni Tone' and when I saw him solo 2 years ago at Outside Lands, I was blown away. So great to know this groove is alive and well, and acoustic!!!!

  • Wow that was great!

  • Love this! Esp the first song! Love That Girl!'

  • Three people are either deaf or racist.

  • @MatthewJohn00003 they probably really liked it but were unsteady and too quick on the click. they missed the "Like" button.

  • NPR, could you please re upload this video at full quality? If you could that would be phenomenal. I've enjoyed your series since its inception and this being one of the first is still probably my favorite! Thanks guys anyways!

  • wow. best video on the planet.

  • I am in love with these Tiny Desk Concerts. I can't stop watching them. Raphael is such an amazing artist and musician. Music like this is what makes my heart beat. It's what I live for. On a side note, his teeth are perfect and he is so handsome. Le sigh.

  • dude. This and all the other NPR tiny desk concerts... Make me extremely happy.

  • He's 45?! Wow, thought he was so much younger! So handsome! And talented!

  • @MadisonTCrispo How is he 45?! I never would have guessed that!

  • inspiring. exceptional. i cant believe how old he is. he was apart of the ummah shit for real

  • @footboy460 musicians like this are far from a rarity today, its just very rare that record companies believe they can make money from artists like this.

  • If anyone is looking for a reason to donate to NPR if your watching this than this is your reason.

  • tabs anyone? please?

  • Musicians like this are a rarity today!

  • out of all the songs he has done and i mean all of them this is my favortie

  • I feel like it's going to be a good day when I find music like this

  • 3 songs that i have never heard, was able to listen all the way through, and like them all. that rarely happens for me =]

  • Soul Legend Raphael Saadiq exclusive: The musician talks about his new album “Stone Rollin”, his idols and why it’s so important for him to respect the Groove. Please find the portrait in the new issue of Red Bull’s magazine „Red Bulletin“. It’s sold at the kiosks beginning Tuesday, June 7th.

For more information just google “The Red Bulletin 2011”.

  • 1:44 & 1:51 two of the most tasteful licks I've heard in a long time. Digging Robert's playing like crazy.

  • 2 ppl like popluar souless music

  • I know how good he is and I'm still shocked at how good this is

  • I die for channels like this, bringing me music I never heard of, often pushing the musicians outside their comfort zone to bring us something as uncredibly fresh as this is. Makes me feel glad to be alive and sat here listening to this, though I'd rather have been there listening to that.

  • Wondrous...His last name is the name of a famous poet around as long ago as Raphael the painter.

  • 2 people actually don't like this.

  • Comment removed

  • Temptations picked up a guitar.

  • @robinmay

Members of NOI usually wear bow ties; Raphael's dress is more retro of mid-late 1960's men's dress than NOI; besides that, wouldn't you rather see someone dressed like Raphael and/or NOI than guy's going around wearing saggy pants, showing their drawers, wearing "wife-beater" tank-tops, etc? Hope that helps.

  • @tubeyounity ...hey you make a great point. Yes, much better than saggy pants.

  • Ro Bacon is amazing on that work of art

  • Obama plays the guitar?

  • @llucanes3838 looks nothing like Obama man

  • mowtown is alive and well killing those accoustics

  • looked like malcolm x at first. nice song.

  • 2 people are too square to appreciate good music when they hear it.

  • feels good to be back to the 1950s

  • Are you high, Jack Johnson. Not even close, definitely not his voice. How could u compare this to that lame college music. What?

  • saw him at a jason mraz concert! sounds muuuuuch better here!

  • 40 seconds in and already my eyes were tearing up

  • 8:41 is the slickest move on guitar i've seen

  • I hope I look this good at 44

  • @danmoo64 I honestly can't believe that. I'm 23 and I though he was around my age.

  • @danmoo64 me too he's pretty hot

  • one word: awesome.

  • Bro Saadiq defs got that bass chop steez on guitar, lots of swing...!

  • Does anyone know what kind of acoustic guitars they are playing?

  • @vincepa100

    Taylor

  • He should do all of his songs acoustic, much more feelin' to it!

  • Rob Bacon is straight up old school. One of my favorites.

  • Rob Bacon is straight up old school. One of my favorites.

  • If anything Jack Johnson sounds like Raphael Saadiq

  • perfect guitarist, amazing vocalist.. !

  • Mmmm Bacon

  • this guitar playing is far more intricate than Mr. Johnson's. In my opinion. I love the mo-town feel he exudes.

  • Malcolm X?

  • Masterful accoutic from Rob

And Raphael... (sighs), I would drink your bathwater for this...lol. How can you have so much soul?

  • Rob Bacon is killin it on that axe.

  • Thank you so much NPR. You've showed me some of my now favorite artists. These guys are terrific, this is real musical talent.

  • 3:22

  • How do I own this as an MP3!!! this acoustic set is amazing. I gotta say I kinda dig it more than the fully produced album

  • @jmandrew1

You should check out his Daytrotter session. It has the same intimate vibes that only come from acoustic sets. (take out the spaces)

  • so fantastic :)

  • This is soooo cooooooooool!!!!!!!!

  • it's like the temptations and jack johnson mixed...bad ass!!!

  • Thank you NPR for all the wonderful Concerts

  • ROB BACON RIPS THAT GUITAR

  • Raphael Saadiq=charisma extraordinaire!

  • Great vid :)

When you're able to deliver such a performance with only one voice and two acoustic guitars, your songs & musician skills gotta be real tight ;)

    Thanks for posting.

    Peace out

  • NICE

  • You hear that?!?! That's some good ish...

  • @cnigtawowo i like totally heard that. and ya that is some good ish. hehe you are so cute.

  • The most baller shit I have ever seen.

  • @spiderveloce Could not have said it better.

  • thanks npr for all your posts ....

  • he shouldnt do his jazz or whatever its called anymore he should stick to these acoustic songs he is much better with just a guitar and his voice

  • This was pretty darn spiffytastic :]

  • great voice, but he doesn't really seem to be playin that guitar. the other guitarist is happenin though.

  • @schecterplayerr He doesn't play that much guitar because he's traditionally a bassist.

  • dig.....

  • What a great team up, Raphael Saadiq and Robert 'Fonksta' Bacon!!!

  • a dapper soul crooner........awaking a genre after 50s of slumber...........god hes good

  • if this session came out on itunes, i'd be the first to buy it. Love it

  • @dbds0224 there is a free podcast..check it out

  • straight to the heart

  • Made my day!!

  • This makes me wanna live life....

  • This is my first listen and I love him already.

  • The best way to download this as an mp3 is on that site mp3iiiiify. Awesome site. GOOGLE mp3iiiiify

  • In addition to looking a whole lot like Malcolm X, he's also an incredible musician, got the album a little bit ago and love it, always winners npr.

  • this is love at first sight. his sound, emotion, and general demeanor are amazing.

  • great performance - reminiscent of the Temptations in its lilt. It shows you it isn't necessary to plug in or have fancy effects to have a great performance.

In terms of the production, too many very very close shots of his face, even cutting off the top of his face, to the point we can see his dental work. Inexpert zooming here. All told, however, fabulous.

  • Does anyone know anywhere where i can find tabs or chords etc. I've worked out Love That Girl but I'm struggling with Sure Hope You Mean It.

  • @Eoin1527 Any luck finding tabs?

  • @MrSebbo87 Nothing yet but I'll post if I find anything

  • gotta be honest. not my genre but give credit where credit is due. i listened to the whole thing and these guys have talent. their synchronicity is on point and the vocals and guitar are also great. thumbs up from me.

  • WOW!!! Made my morning, probably the rest of the weekend too!

  • Fantastic.

Phenomenal acoustic guitar work as well.

  • You can do a mean soul clap to Sweet and Tender.

Whoooo! Clap. Double Clap. Try it LOL.

  • i forgot about soul until i watched this.

  • This is the best set on NPR

    Besides Magnetic Zero

  • I fucking love this!

I love Raphael anyway (unconditionally) but this takes my love for him to a higher level.

This shit is awesome. Feels good!

  • Oh snap! This is of the shizzey~:~:~

  • LOL.. well said.

"Oh Snap! This is the Shizzey"

How cool is this? Do you not love this??!! OMG!

  • Living legend.

  • haha this sounds nothing like jack johnson

  • @coleman2279 i can see how people would think it sounds like jack johnson, the guitar playing is pretty similar

  • @coleman2279

I think he meant the singer's voice, and I would have to say while the music is completely different, his voice does in some weird way remind me of Jack.

  • @coleman2279 who's the dumbass that had to make that comparison?... dude needs to get their ears checked out.

  • @DestroySweater that's the point- way better than Jack Johnson

  • PERFECTO!

I sooo enjoyed this. Way better then the record.

He should do an accoustic album!

Raphael is so diverse. I enjoy him any he puts it out there.. BUT THIS ONE IS PRICELESS!

    GENIUS about sums it up......

  • this is genius....so much better here acoustic than on the record

  • i like it better this way.

  • This is so perfect...god bless!

  • Ouch... it sounds so great as an acoustic piece.

  • i hope there will be soon a new album

  • Great vid! I've loved Raphael Saddiq since his colaboration with Q-Tip with "Get Involved".

  • amazing, a nice cross between jack johnson and motown with the acoustic. Already looked for an unplugged album but couldn't find one. I would buy this in a heartbeat. Great sound!

  • How can anyone not like this??

  • The real deal!!!! Keep it coming (I sure do mean it)

  • love the taylor guitar sounds.Awesome

  • Love it.

  • This version of "Sure hope you mean it" is the best! Love it.

  • Yep. I liked it too. "The way I see it" album rocks my world.

  • OHMYGOODNESS. I don't even know what to say. This blew my mind. Thank you! You guys made my study break so worth it...the perfect marriage of vocals and amazing guitar playing...thank you!!

  • Yeah yeah yeah yeah!
