I love The Mighty JD and all but there's a lot of newbies and unethical bastids floating around. If you want to do some good buying/selling/trading go the USN. You have to pay a membership fee and there are repercussions for failing to comply by their rules. Still love the JD though, and haven't had a bad experience yet. Knock on wood. Good luck with your shit.
Seller should give you a full refund. He's the one who gambled and lost when he chose to not insuring the package. You're probably too cool to raise a stink, but it was totally his fault--we're all big boys and we all know that shipping sh*t is a lost/stolen/damaged crap-shoot. He didn't cover his as* and there's no reason that yours should take the burn.
One thing we know sure and that is that it's NOT YOUR fault. It is either the fault of the seller i.e. sender(!) who decided to not pack it decent and not ship it with insurance, or the post office.
So if the seller is so lame that he does NOT even want to refund you HALF, could you at least put his name out there so that other buyers can decide not to buy from him?
I've had this happen, and it's been mentioned here there are A LOT of shysters on a lot of the forums. They are essentially liars and thieves but in their mind they're honest businessmen. SpydieGuy was a DEALER who was like this. Join the USN, get a Cove membership and you'll only deal with good honest people.
Sounds like it's mail theft/fraud, but the seller is on the hook here. Should've paid the nominal fee to insure it. No reason not to on something this costly. My rule is, if it's over $100, insure it. Seller should refund the money and work to resolve whatever the Postal system did to screw this up. Other than that, either taking the seller or the U.S. Postal Service to small claims court is the only other thing I can think of.
I am sorry mate! i have to say the seller is at fault for this problem. He should have paid for insurance. It is a bit of a red flag for me plus anyone can fake feedback. have you contacted any of the jd forum members to see what they say?Sorry again. I would also donate if you change your mind.
Man Arch, that shit sucks. Sorry man. You should spread this info around and always be wary. I know bladeforums has been having some heavy issues with Liu Kang, who deals in Busse. He has 99% positive reviews, yet there seems to be multiple threads filled with many members that are putting him on blast for questionable business practices.
I dont think the post man would risk it if the USA system is like the UK.
In the UK if a post man steals the post then special ministry of defence police storm their place, arrest them and rip their home appart. The interviews are hardcore and they invade all your private documents. You get sacked and have a criminal record for the rest of your life and can never work for any civil service jobs again. Plus they name and shame you in local newspaper, give your address and say how much you stole
on ebay. the seller is always responsible for getting the item to the buyer. I'm a seller and I always insure my items for that reason. It only cost 2-4 for a $250 item. So always blame the seller its easy to put insurance on it.
It is the seller!!!! I am buying and selling knives high values knives for almost 8 years and never I "lost" a knife in the mail system! What a shame! The seller 100% ripped you off. I am sorry for your loss.
@Romanlegionnaire77 I'm not sure? I've been doing this for around ten years. The seller is "newcollector" on jerzeedevil. He has nothing but positive feedback so far. He is just unwilling to budge or assume responsibility. IMO he "assumed" that it would just fly though an obviously unperfect system, which any of us might.. Just so happens that most of us agree we would act responsibly in the face of fault.
Hey Bro, That was the seller that did that to you!! @BBQBOY76 man BBQ, I've had several likewise offers and it really feels incredible to be appreciated. Unfortunately I am a prideful bastard and have to decline. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Odds are you got ripped off by the seller. Terrible feeling. Hope you can resolve it.
I doubt this is going to ease the loss any, but the DGG has a *major* flaw in that it will absolutely shred your pockets. I have one that is sitting in a drawer for this very reason (my favorite EDC is a tanto Umnum -- not as carryable as a Sebenza, but it is more ergonomic IMO). Strider should have smoothed out the G-10 under the pocket clip. Inexcusable for what would otherwise be a fantastic knife.
This is a deal gone bad. The seller should of taped the end of the box (can't trust USPS boxes from coming opened when crushed) The buyer should of told the seller to insure the package and paid for it. The buyer tried to save a few bucks by using the gift side (I do the same thing but it is at my own risk). Both sides made mistakes so I feel the seller should refund half the money.I have done the same thing trying to save a buck so this will be a good lesson for me also.
Also, it is on the seller to deliver the product. Let me ask you guys this; Who is responsible for filing an insurance claim if the package is not delivered? The person who ships the package (The seller) is who must file the claim. The seller/shipper is the person responsible for obtaining insurance and they would be responsible for collecting it. The seller is responsible for making sure the buyer gets a product or their money back, period. This is not the buyer's responsibility.
I think the seller fucked you and knows how to fuck people. Seriously. Never use gift. Always insure. This guy may have sent the box like that, knowing it would confuse you.
When I ship my knives out using USPS box, regardless of the prices, I make sure to take all corners since I don't trust the tape holding up for a few days and getting constantly thrown around. I believe it's the seller's careless mistake and he should at least attempt to give you a partial refund. Who ships out a $400 knife without properly taping all sides of the box?
Shit, man, that blows. I hope you can get the issue resolved.
I can see why the seller didn't purchase insurance (most people are cheap bastards), but the fact that the package wasn't even taped up is unbelievable. And the cold sore medicine is flat out suspicious. I can see a postal employee walking off with the Strider, but where is the bag of cold sore stuff coming from? I guess he could swipe it from another box, but who ships bigass packets of Lysine?
Paypal fee's? What paypal fee's? you used the gift option...There shouldn't have been any. Paypal doesn't collect fee's when you send the money by gift option.
@JRNY1605 The weight would only matter if the seller were trying to rip him off because the package is weighed when it's received, lol. The most likely scenario is that the seller fucked him. The seller probably asked buyers to use the gift option (And conveniently omitted the fact that it leaves the buyer without recourse). The seller could have sent the box like that. It makes perfect sense to me that the seller did this. What postal employee has 50 packs of blister med and coupons with them?
@mindsmirror Your logic doesn't make sense. It could be either the seller or a postal employee. Lets say the seller ships the knife and its weighed...then an employee opens the package, takes the knife, looks at the weight on the package, and replaces it with anything of that weight making it look as though the seller was responsible. I don't see how that is so hard to imagine.
@JRNY1605 When the seller ships the package and sends the buyer the tracking number, the initial weight of the package is what will be recorded. So, you will see that your package weighs "x ounces." This is a good tactic to assure the buyer that a knife is inside. It might have been the post office, but I strongly doubt it. I always send packages using a fast method with insurance and no indication that the item is anything someone would want (ie - Don't put "R Doucette Knives" for the address).
That sucks man... I hope shit works out for you. Does the seller have good/any feedback?
FYI I know this is off-topic but I think I remember in one of your older videos of you mentioning that you sold your CF Millie and missed it. Well, apparently there's going to be a M390 CF version that'll be available for pre-order next week at KnifeWorks.
USPS insurance is a joke anyway. IMO if you order something that is expensive enough to be insured, it's worth a few extra bucks to get it fedexed. Maybed even an extra 20 if it's something in the 1000 dollar range.
Just curious Archman...does the combined weight of the cold sore pack and the coupon booklet you received add up to something close to the weight of an SnG?
I agree that you should start a thread on the forum and provide the details. Sounds fishy to me as well, why would the seller not put insurance on a $375 knife?! I hope it works out
Seller owes you a knife or the money. He didn't purchase insurance, he didn't tape the box. It's the seller's responsibility to ensure delivery, bottom line.
Start a feedback thread in that forum. The Mods will agree and enforce everything I wrote above.
ahh man...everytime i order an expensive knife insurance or not i totally have anxiety untill its in my hand for fear of something like this happening, youll never really know cause if the seller knows you didnt purchase insurance it would be extremly easy for him to pull some shit like this and get away with it, knowing everyone is just going to point the finger at the next guy....i hope you get some answers but unfortunately i wouldnt count on it..keep us updated friend
i know a reason why he would choose not to ensure it. i recently sold a bike and had to ship it. ensurance for 100 is free u just have to tell the person that u want it. after that it is 9.50 for every 100 of ensurance. so instead of shipping a knife for 5-10 bucks it would be about 30-35. im my opinion it is the sellers reponsibility to ask the buyer if he wants to pay for that ensurance or not( if the buyer wants it, then the buyer pays for it) it is not the sellers fault if the item doesnt...
@ladiesman3636 Insurance on a bike is surely more expensive than a knife. I just looked it up and insurance would have been about $5.80 for a $300 to $400 item.
I always package the knives I sell up with extra tape, even if they're only worth $30, let alone something that's $375. That sounds very fishy to me. I can't believe the seller didn't put tape on the package containing a $375 knife. You should ask the seller how he packaged it and see if he mentions the bands. If not, you'll know the post office did it. If he says he put the band on and no tape, then I think it's clear who is responsible at that point. That's just my opinion. This sucks!!!!
insurance is so important although you should have asked for it to be insured as well. Hope this works its a bad situation for both you and the seller.
i think the seller should go half, it was a 375 dollar knife! how could he not pay the few extra bucks to have it insured. I am always afraid of something like this happening to me. sorry you have to go deal with this issue
Gotta say that the seller owes you a knife or a refund (if you want to be nice ask to just get back 50%). If the money you sent him had been stolen on the way to his account, I'm pretty sure he would be arguing he never received the money.
Dude, so sorry to hear. Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of a seller who didn't want to subtract 2% of his price to pay for insurance so I doubt you will get anywhere in private conversations. If you haven't already done so I'd put it up on the forum you made the deal and let public opinion sway his decision. On the one hand you will get a ding for using the gift option but on the other it's his online reputation at stake for not insuring the package.
Maybe seller needed money for bills or something. He should try to make it up to you though. He should make some efforts and if he can't deliver you the cash or another Strider then compensate you in some way. That's what I would do.
I would be willing to donate ten bucks to you, I've gotten a lot from your vids. If forty of your subscribers gave ten bucks you could get another knife.
@WoodenChicken1 It's crazy. I was thinking the same thing..... I bought a Benchmade 551 from Archman's reviews. I've got a Sebenza from Archman's and TheCajunblaze vidz. I own a strider. Lego wit the "knobby" scale. HAHAHAHAHA I always find your vidz entertaining. Let us know how this one turns out. You've got 1200 people behind you. Hope it resolves itself out for you.
same shit happend to one of my customers, they delivered an empty package and he did insure it, but they claim the weight was the same the whole time so they said OH WELL. lol tell the seller to dive your money back, his responsibility to get it to you.
what is the sellers username? its the sellers responsibility to get the buyer the knife, and the buyers responsibility to pay. you held up your end of the bargain. its time for him to hold up his end.
Yea, that's on the seller. He either owes you a SnG DGG or your money back. You delivered the money to him... He didn't deliver you a knife. Insurance is on the seller.
i have had something similar happen to me for around the same amount. turned out the seller was scamming people around the US and have a few warrants out for her arrest. never found out what happened to her and never got my money back..
Shit man that sucks! The seller definetely should have put an insurrance on the package! For a knife of that price, that's unforgivable! I hope there will be an solution for this problem!
I live in Canada and if I ship a valuable knife ANYWHERE I insure it. Even if it adds more cost. You just add it to the total price. I won't ship it uninsured unless the buyer specifically in writing asks me not to. and then it's all on them. I absolve myself of any liability. I generally suggest them to not do that.
That sucks, Arch. Priority should take 3 days max so it sounds to me like somebody at the Post Office either messed up or stole the blade. Either way, that's poor conduct on the sellers part not to place insurance on something like an SnG.
A deal is not done untill both parties are happy. The seller owes you a refund. How could he not of gotten insurance on an SNG!!??And the box should of been mummified with tape.
dude, only saw this now...man...thanks for the advice on purchasing...will only be using reputable shops from now on, don't wanna take the risk, all the best Arch.

@ladiesman3636 Insurance on a bike is surely more expensive than a knife. I just looked it up and insurance would have been about $5.80 for a $300 to $400 item.
jeffersontool 7 months ago
...Not to mention the $6 or $7 extra it would have been to insure it. This all sounds so fishy to me.
jeffersontool 7 months ago
I always package the knives I sell up with extra tape, even if they're only worth $30, let alone something that's $375. That sounds very fishy to me. I can't believe the seller didn't put tape on the package containing a $375 knife. You should ask the seller how he packaged it and see if he mentions the bands. If not, you'll know the post office did it. If he says he put the band on and no tape, then I think it's clear who is responsible at that point. That's just my opinion. This sucks!!!!

Sorry to hear about your SnG deal gone sour, but thanks for sharing the cautionary tale. Something stinks bad about this one.

Bro that super sucks. I really am not sure that there is anything that you can do. That's a tough lesson man. People are assholes.

insurance is so important although you should have asked for it to be insured as well.

That is some tough luck man.
bckane 7 months ago
an expensive lesson, but worse shit has happened. The seller should cover half of your loss and call it even.
TalonTSI95 7 months ago

Hope it resolves itself out for you.

same shit happend to one of my customers, they delivered an empty package and he did insure it, but they claim the weight was the same the whole time so they said OH WELL. lol tell the seller to dive your money back, his responsibility to get it to you.
tuffthumbz 7 months ago
what is the sellers username? its the sellers responsibility to get the buyer the knife, and the buyers responsibility to pay. you held up your end of the bargain. its time for him to hold up his end.

This sucks! I hate to say it, sounds like someone is crooked along your mail route..
nls8520 7 months ago
Yea, that's on the seller. He either owes you a SnG DGG or your money back. You delivered the money to him... He didn't deliver you a knife. Insurance is on the seller.

i have had something similar happen to me for around the same amount. turned out the seller was scamming people around the US and have a few warrants out for her arrest. never found out what happened to her and never got my money back..

Sorry to hear, I think that the seller should always be responsible for insuring!!!

I didn't read the description, but in the first second I saw in your eyes that something is wrong and you are pissed like hell!
This whole story sucks Arch, I'm really sorry for you.
375$ gone and a great knife, and we lost a fantastic review on it...
(What about the new background? Just an other angle in the room or you moved?)
HunterRyngo 7 months ago
I live in Canada and if I ship a valuable knife ANYWHERE I insure it. Even if it adds more cost. You just add it to the total price. I won't ship it uninsured unless the buyer specifically in writing asks me not to. and then it's all on them. I absolve myself of any liability. I generally suggest them to not do that.
gamerfromcanada 7 months ago
Have you done any research on the seller to see if anyone else has had any similar issues with them?
Denomolise 7 months ago
That sucks, Arch. Priority should take 3 days max so it sounds to me like somebody at the Post Office either messed up or stole the blade. Either way, that's poor conduct on the sellers part not to place insurance on something like an SnG.

ouch, I don't even know what to say, That's just terrible. I hope you can get something out of it. :(
