This has always been my favorite song from the Yellow Brick Road album. Every time I hear it, I imagine being a child in the 1950s, when westerns ruled the TV screen.
One of my dog Bryn's favourite songs to singalong to, at least the version on the great album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Elton's new album The Union, with Leon Russell, is excellent
i would give my right arm (and possibly my left as well) for a 'clean' version of this concert. i have it on DVD and, like this vid, looks like a 10th gen VHS copy.
BESYT version live on video..cause its the ONLY live version on VIDEO for 25 yerars LOL. Elton/..stop playing the same songs...pull out the old 70s LPS and pick out 10 songs you havent done in ages...people wont walk out..beleive me.
My Dad introduced me to Elton John. I live in a different city to my folks but these songs always make me feel like being home. Roy Rogers makes me think about my Dad and how it must have been for him growing up. We are very similar in lots of ways, he's one of the best men I know.
this album was never under rated! when this album came out elton EXPLODED into the king of the ballad and i seriously doubt there wasn't a person who didn't love it.
Actually this was when he first had his hair implants put in. They didnt last too long before he cut them out, even HE didnt like them. I thought he looked great and I was disapointed to see him the following Winter when he came to Philadelphia and was almost totally BALD!!!
He looks cool, youthful...if you;re brave enough, watch this and then watch a clip from 2008/09 singin this song. What a difference 30 years makes :(
I saw him in concert twice in the nineties, once by himself then with Billy Joel. I wish I could have saw him in the mid seventies. I think you're right he looks better with this implant then compared to what he looks like now with a rug. I love this song and "I've Seen That Movie To".
Actually, it's not underrated at all. It debuted at #1, got great sales and reviews. The public and critics alike loved it. Now Madman Across the Water is an underrated album. It was not successful when it was released, although critics liked it, but it has become one of the most purchased of his back catalogue.
Yea, Goodbye Yellowbrick Road is far from 'under rated' , many critics site that as his best work. It was loaded with hits . If anything, that "era" of music is under rated compared to the crap that passes as music today.
When I was a little boy I went to my grandparents' house every afternoon. My Papa was a mailman and would get home around 4 each day, and would settle in on the couch to watch any western that was available. I often fell asleep on his lap, my head rising and falling with his stomach as he breathed....he was such a good and decent man. I loved him more than anything. This album was released right about the time he died in 1973, I think. I still cry when I hear this...happy, happy tears.
brilliant.... cant stop playing this in the car at the moment. Which is strange for a song I haved loved so long. 'Well' lets not anerlise it too much.
Fantastic. What a great song that he hardly ever sang in concert. Listen to his vocals live...better than the album. How many singers can do that! Thanks for posting!

You know, there was a time when Elton John was pretty good. The other day, I wondered aloud, "When did Elton John start to suck?" Embarrassed, I realized I had answered my own question.
You Tube is about music.... you're on the wrong page buddy. Get off this YOU TUBE and get off..... on the magazines you most likely already purchase (For gay folk) which is cool, I'm not prejudice, just come out of the closet on these holidays and you'll be so much happier instead of keeping it hidden, wasting your time on putting down good musicians......Good Day

How is it possible that Elton John and Bernie Taupin, both of them Englishmen, managed to capture Americana better than almost any other American?
They really captured the heart and soul of America. Astounding.

This is the best LIVE performance of the song - But nothing comes close to the recording off the Yellow Brick Road Album.
I was just a young teenager when the album was released and the song did not effect me the way it does today......
When I listen to it now....I 'so get it'...

My favourite live version. Not too fond of the one at Rainbow Theatre earlier in the year.
Why are all his songs being released again and again, when they should be putting out this live stuff?
I only have an inferior version of the concert.
