  • stunning

  • this image is becoming a fad now again, in new york

  • oh , correct that, not a newsboy cap, a beret

  • he is wearing a wool felt newsboy cap and a lewis leather leather jacket

  • amazing!!!!

  • You can't defeat this!

  • the best line in this song is "id rather have ham in my sandwich than cheese but complaining wouldnt do any good" what a genius bernie is

  • How is it possible that Elton John and Bernie Taupin, both of them Englishmen, managed to capture Americana better than almost any other American?

They really captured the heart and soul of America. Astounding.

  • @copa777 its because they fell in love with america and the musical artists from the u.s.a

  • classic Elton!

  • This has always been my favorite song from the Yellow Brick Road album. Every time I hear it, I imagine being a child in the 1950s, when westerns ruled the TV screen.

  • I hope to see sir Elton John to sing this song in the Rock in Rio/Brazil in september 2011

  • @chubsoda Agree totally. Captain F is a great albom, especially "Tower of Babel"

  • Elton John has more talent while he is sleeping than i will ever have awake.

  • An entire orchestra in those two busy hands.

  • Piss poor quality

  • One of my dog Bryn's favourite songs to singalong to, at least the version on the great album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Elton's new album The Union, with Leon Russell, is excellent

  • The Best solo performer ever for sure...

  • I love Elton!!! He is just the best!!!

  • He still sounds the same even if he's by himself or not major icon sir Elton John is

  • i would give my right arm (and possibly my left as well) for a 'clean' version of this concert. i have it on DVD and, like this vid, looks like a 10th gen VHS copy.

    either way, he's the greatest

  • Bad adio,But Alway A Bad ass Song!!!:)@-

  • BESYT version live on video..cause its the ONLY live version on VIDEO for 25 yerars LOL. Elton/..stop playing the same songs...pull out the old 70s LPS and pick out 10 songs you havent done in ages...people wont walk out..beleive me.

  • & he still does not need a band with him ----

  • My Dad introduced me to Elton John. I live in a different city to my folks but these songs always make me feel like being home. Roy Rogers makes me think about my Dad and how it must have been for him growing up. We are very similar in lots of ways, he's one of the best men I know.

  • Wonderful performance. Thanks for posting!

  • Elton as Sam Kinison..

  • Roy Rogjeeeeeeers! The best! My fathers favorite God Bless Him!

  • this man a genius, long live elton!

  • no comments more

E.J is the best he was he are and he would be a hero and a Legend...

  • @Emmo1alias1Emmo perfect perfect

  • this album was never under rated! when this album came out elton EXPLODED into the king of the ballad and i seriously doubt there wasn't a person who didn't love it.

  • Elton John = Legend

  • His hair just made my day.

  • I am a huge Elton John fan, but c'mon that has to be a hairpiece that came with the cap.

  • Actually this was when he first had his hair implants put in. They didnt last too long before he cut them out, even HE didnt like them. I thought he looked great and I was disapointed to see him the following Winter when he came to Philadelphia and was almost totally BALD!!!

He looks cool, youthful...if you;re brave enough, watch this and then watch a clip from 2008/09 singin this song. What a difference 30 years makes :(

  • I saw him in concert twice in the nineties, once by himself then with Billy Joel. I wish I could have saw him in the mid seventies. I think you're right he looks better with this implant then compared to what he looks like now with a rug. I love this song and "I've Seen That Movie To".

  • i apalogize: piano PLAYER

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!

for a piano like myself, it makes you feel good inside when you sing and play it!

GOD BLESS AND LONG LIVE ELTON!

  • This is one of my favourites from the GYBR LP. It's such an underated album, there's hardly a bad track on it...apart from Jamaica Jerk-Off!

  • Actually, it's not underrated at all. It debuted at #1, got great sales and reviews. The public and critics alike loved it. Now Madman Across the Water is an underrated album. It was not successful when it was released, although critics liked it, but it has become one of the most purchased of his back catalogue.

  • Yea, Goodbye Yellowbrick Road is far from 'under rated' , many critics site that as his best work. It was loaded with hits . If anything, that "era" of music is under rated compared to the crap that passes as music today.

  • right on

  • He's genious!

  • When I was a little boy I went to my grandparents' house every afternoon. My Papa was a mailman and would get home around 4 each day, and would settle in on the couch to watch any western that was available. I often fell asleep on his lap, my head rising and falling with his stomach as he breathed....he was such a good and decent man. I loved him more than anything. This album was released right about the time he died in 1973, I think. I still cry when I hear this...happy, happy tears.

  • @781Florist this is a wonderful story! thanks for sharing it!

  • @781Florist Wonderful story. I loved my Grandaddy Kelly so much. He passed on in 1978.

  • @781Florist I hope my grandson remembers things like that.

  • @781Florist What a lovely comment. He is my favourite musician and thanks to Bernie Taupin too for the lyrics.

  • From an album of gems!!

  • damn this is good

  • best song from the great album, to me, anyway..always loved it.

  • the whole album was revolutionary

  • Fantastic...on of the most beatiful songs..

  • "God bless the TV".

  • few weeks after Roy Rogers died I saw Elton in Dallas and Elton performed this as a tribute to Roy

  • Round-uos and Rustlers........

  • This is the best LIVE performance of the song - But nothing comes close to the recording off the Yellow Brick Road Album.

I was just a young teenager when the album was released and the song did not effect me the way it does today......

When I listen to it now....I 'so get it'...

  • he also played this solo at his concert 5/7/77 at Rainbow Theatre and it is just as awesome

  • brilliant.... cant stop playing this in the car at the moment. Which is strange for a song I haved loved so long. 'Well' lets not anerlise it too much.

  • My favourite live version. Not too fond of the one at Rainbow Theatre earlier in the year.

Why are all his songs being released again and again, when they should be putting out this live stuff?

I only have an inferior version of the concert.

  • Haaa, I love this song. Fantastic performance!

  • Fantastic. What a great song that he hardly ever sang in concert. Listen to his vocals live...better than the album. How many singers can do that! Thanks for posting!

Hey, Yanks can appreciate Elton too!

  • A voice that is as perfect as the music,.

Thanks Elton and Bernie for all your music.

  • way way ahead of the times, a

elton & bernie were a great talent...

    enjoy...

  • brilliant, thanks...

  • You Tube is about music.... you're on the wrong page buddy. Get off this YOU TUBE and get off..... on the magazines you most likely already purchase (For gay folk) which is cool, I'm not prejudice, just come out of the closet on these holidays and you'll be so much happier instead of keeping it hidden, wasting your time on putting down good musicians......Good Day

  • to all of you he has been great. Even though he may not have that noticeable vioce he use to have he still if very good.

  • This is my all-time favorite Elton John song!

  • Yeah, it's my favorite, too.

  • This whole album is his best.

  • Great!!! Brings back good memories!!

  • A concert were he performs this magnificent song

  • Amazing! After 30 years this song still can steal a tear from my eyes...

  • Outstanding!!

  • Put on the album, get out a beer, and raise a toast to Roy and Elton with the Rogers collectible statue, seated on Trigger, up on the shelf!

  • I really LOVE this song. "Goodbye yellow brick road" is a fantastic album, with this beautiful song as one of it`s highlights! Lovely song!

  • Next to Harmony, this is TOPS in Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

  • love this song

  • Amazing song by amazing artist

(love his high harmonies in the chorus on the original... double tracked elton)

    nuff said!

  • Excellent. Any chance of posting the rest of the show?

  • Finally Back!!!! Love this performance solo with the piano. Nothing could touch this man in the seventies. Later on maybe....

  • Thanks Rockermad

Roy Rogers is my favorite Elton song in concert.
