I have started using $2 bills in my everyday purchases and haven't yet had anyone question or refuse them. You more than likely won't receive them as change, so the trick is to simply ask for them at the bank, instead of simply getting $20 bills at the ATM, and use them! I hope one day we can have a system more like the Euro where there are only bills for €5 and higher, but I think a good start would be eliminating the $1 bill in favor of a longer-lasting coin.
Great video. I think the Federal Reserve really hates Thomas Jefferson. Besides, Jefferson (like Andrew Jackson) was opposed to a national bank. The problem is that the $20 bill gained acceptance (in one of the great ironies of history), whereas the $2 did not. Don't hoard $2 bills, people. It's just worthless paper; we might keep a few as specimens if we are in fact notaphiles, but that's it. Hoard copper, nickel, silver, and gold! This is where the money is at!
I believe most people mistake them as rare currency. They are often collected and never used in the market. That is probably why these bills are not circulated as they should be.

See, this is what I keep trying to tell my managers. In fact, every transaction in which I could've given a $2 in change, I always tell the customers "I regret to inform you that I can't give you a $2 because we don't have any". Lately, I've been outright commanding they go to the bank and get some to save the economy...
being a bit "rare", $2 bills are often seen as a sort of "good luck charm" (akin to "finding a pennyy", and, as such, make great tips - especially more than ONE of them - Also I 've got a pile of them in a desk drawer, and, i suspect, so do a lot of other people, along with Susan B's and Gold Dollars, also great tipping items, but also "stashed" - instant collectibles! anyway, just my two bucks' worth...
okay..why dont you take the $2 bill and yourself the to a academy barber shop and see if you can tip them and get a fresh faid..this is why the world is how it is lol
Thomas Jefferson was against the centralization of the offshore controlled banks. That is why the Fed who is not even an American Corporation . so the back is the signing of the DEc of INdependance . that is against the federal reserve .. so of course they dont want anyone to think about Thomas Jefferson..
The bill was discontinued in 1966, but was reintroduced 10 years later as part of the United States Bicentennial celebrations. Today, however it is rarely seen in circulation, and as a result the production of the note is the lowest of U.S. paper money: under 1% of all notes currently produced are $2 bills. (wikipedia)
if i buy a 1 dollar Arizona can, and pay with a 2 dollar bill, i dont want a one dollar coin back. it will pile up. i also dont wanna go to the bank more often just to exchange the coins for bills.
When I was a child it was very common to get these as Birthday presents in cards. They were used more in the late 70's and 80's. Now not so much. I don't mind them as change.
I know the problem... I'm from Germany and before the Euro we had the German Mark. We had the denomination 5 as a bill and a coin. The coin was pretty big BTW. And for one reason or another everyone used the coin instead of the bill. I thought it would be easier to carry light bills around instead of heavy coins... The bill landed up by collectors. The 2 dollar bill reminds me a lot of the 5 mark bill. Even the value of the two is similar.
@kaYboi8o8 Well I think they pretty rare. I mean when you buy stuff and get change the money you will get are $1, $5, $20, $50, and $100. You never going to recieve a $2 reason I say they rare. I mean even the $1 more common than the $2 bill.
I leave them as tips so it forces the person to take it without asking questions. It is annoying getting back 4 singles while there is a 2 dollar denomination of bills.
I went to the bank today and requested some, the teller had to go to the vault to get them for me. It might be fun to go out and find places where young kids are working and give them $2 bills, it would be funny to find someone who has never seen one before.
I find the 2 dollar bill as common as any other bill that there is. In reality the 50 dollar bill is used as much as the 2 dollar bill is. So really, why put the 2 dollar bill down? Who cares if people give you a look when you spend them. It's money! Don't be afriad to ask for some at your local bank and then spend them. It can be pretty fun anyway! :)
If cost of items in vending machines keeps going up I think they should let us use 2 dollar bills there. I mean Some of those expenisive vending machines like at theme parks charge way more.
@0rcinus Sorry, but no. There is a slot for the $2 bill. Every change drawer has 5 slots. Currently the slots are used for: $1, $5, $10, $20, and $50 bills. The 50 dollar bills should be placed under the drawer just as the 100 dollar bill is. Then there is a slot for the 2 dollar bill: $1, $2, $5, $10, and $20 bills. Simple as that.
I have some 1928 through 1963 $2 bills, and they have Monticello (Jefferson's home) on the back. They also have a red Federal Reserve mark and serial numbers. They are impossible to get from anywhere, other than from collectors, yet I have $10 in red-note Two's that I got from a Bank of America. Granted, their in bad condition, but still.
i went to splashtown and i got some ice cream and i gave the lady 10 bucks n the ice cream was 6 bucks n she gave me back 2 ones and a 2 dollar bill and smiled i was like thanks but i guess she gave it away so quick becuz in the cash register theres no place for a 2$ bill rlyy
with the signing of the declaration of independence is the only U.S. Bill that has a African-American ( Black) man printed on it. See if you can find him. Hint, he is sitting down.
yea, they dont have a slot for the $2 bill in there cash register. and you said it urself vending machine dont take them. that is the 2 main reasons there not used
Youtube keeps eating my comments. I get my two dollar bills from the BEP(Bureau of Engraving and Printing)'s store and the bank. I also spend 50 cent pieces as well and I think those are becoming much MUCH more rarer. When I showed some 50 cent pieces from 2009 to my co workers and friends the reactions ranged from: "I didn't know they still make those and/or they didn't know that half dollars even existed". I think you should do a money talks on the 50 cent piece, if you haven't already.
@TheNeecyD My mom said she used to have a 20$ bill in her wallet. She looked in her wallet and found out that she actually had a 2$ bill. I asked if I could see it and she said I could have it. 2$ aren't a lot anyway.
Or you could just do what Canada does and switch to $1 and $2 coins, Which last much longer than bills. Its about 5 years for a coin. I forget how long a bill last, But i believe its no more than a few years.
How dose it cost the government to make money?Cant they print how ever much needed to cover the bill. How many hunderd dollar bill can you make out of one tree?Money pays for it self.
I agree with circulating more 2 dollar bills. I actually collect them. I also give them out as tips and get the same response's. Good questions. I use them,
You forgot something. Theres a Black Man on the back of the $2 bill. His name is John Hanson & he was our FIRST President! YES! Thats Right. We had 7 Presidents Before the U.S. Constitution was ever Established. Dont take my word for it. Look it Up!
this guy at college today was showing a dollar for a while so i took out a 2dollar bill out and started to brag how i had 2dollars, it was rather interesting.
they is but not worth anything but 2 dollars the 2 dollar bill that is worth 29 dollars is the gold stamped 2 dollar bill and only 300,000 where made i will be getting one real soon
i knew the answers the both. i know who on every dollar 1-100,000 and whats on the back. i have 2, 2 dollar bills from the 50's with the monticello on the back
A friend of mine in Indiana used to offer $2 bills as change but most of them rejected it and requested $1 bills instead because of the misconceptions out there.
Look buddy, no reason to be an ass! I told you I get them from the Bank (sorry it was a type mistake). So how can they be taking them out of circulation if I continue to get them from the back? I have over 1000 2 dollar bills. Its a great bill.
ok im not trying to be a ass what im saying is that every one wont have a 2 dollar bill i get mines from chase bank when i cash my cheak they ask me how i want it i say 4 100 dollasr bille 200 in two dollar bills 30 half dollars 50 saint gardens 5 dollar coin thats what i mean
If our nation were to switch to $2 bills, there would be a temporary issue for a short time with machines, more money in cashier drawers, and holding more change because it takes more quarters without any 1's to cover $1.05 worth of change. Overtime, the nation would be better off, but people just like George Washington a lot because of his history in America.
Maybe the church deems the $2 as a "Devil" Bill...you may need to examine the "Free Mason" symbolism on it...
And keep in mind, $2 bills prior to the bicentennial had Monticello on the reverse side..
After all Thomas Jefferson (that's not George Jefferson on the bill) was a Free Mason....he drafted & signed the D.O.I., purchased the Louisiana Terratory...
Where as christians like G.W. Bush, bankrupt the country & attack foreign nations.
They never have and they never will. President Nixon removed the $500/ $1,000/ $5,000/ $10,000/ and $100,000 gold certificate from circulation because it would empower and encourage gangs, counterfeiters, robberies, etc. Also, very few people ever saw those high denomination bills. Besides, giant transactions in this day of age is handled by debit cards, credit cards, and checks. Only casinos have higher denominations in chips, but they monitor your past play and some chips have radio frequency.
Look at that in God we trust.....got to love it. I don't even think vending machines take anything higher than 1's...(I could be wrong). Soda's don't usually cost more than 70 cents....Unless you're at 6 flags or Disney land.
Would you recommend having some other denominations with you just in case they don't trust $2 bills? One guy almost got arrested at Taco Bell and a 57 year old man was arrested and held for a few hours until the Secret Service cleared him. Also, if you do get arrested because of misunderstanding like that, you have little to no chance of suing successfully because it wouldn't qualify as false arrest.
Well in the New York Daily News there was an ad that was selling 2 dollar bills in a wallet and the bills were made of genuine gold leaf. My friend got me one :D
I believe it's because they're used much less frequently and 2 dollar bills are in much better shape in most cases than the other bills, especially 1's.
Another interesting fact about the $2 bill, it only had the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the back since the 1976 series "Federal" Reserve Note. Before that it was a United States Note. I have one from 1928 and one from 1963 (possibly the notes that got JFK shot for crossing the Banksters behind the unconstitutional private "Federal" Reserve). Thomas Jefferson warned us what would happen if the banksters were ever allowed to control the money supply.
Vending Machines don't except 2 dollar bills, that is bull! Bring 2 dollar bills back. BRING BACK HALF DOLLARS, ONE DOLLAR COINS, and TWO DOLLAR BILLS!
@mqg96 The reason they don't bring the two dollar bill back is because everytime they are released nobody spends them and the reason people dont spend them is because they are idiots. Heres a shocker folks: the 2 dollar bill is worth (drum roll please)....2 dollars!! It always has and always will be worth 2 dollars. If people actually spend them it would be in circulation.
Tell me if this is not a good idea, but I think the US treasurey should stop making 1 and 2 dollar bill banknotes and just make 1 and 2 dollar coins. That would lower the cost of making 1 and 2 dollar banknotes.
i really like $2 bills, i never thought of the idea of how much it would really cut down on the single. I work at a bank and I have $2 bills in my drawer but i only give them out if ppl ask for them. Good thoughts
WHAT ABOUT THE FREAKING BAT GOD ON REVERSE (CENTER) ??? John Hanson another great question... currency is our modern day davinci code... so get it together and do your homework.
also what people dont know is that there is a black man by the name of john hanson on the back of it as well he was also the united states first black president!!! Ah Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Check it out yourself!
I've been saying for years, get rid of the paper $1 bill, and bring up production of the $2 bill. This will force people to use the coins, rather than hoard them. Since everything is always a dollar something, even sodas in vending machines usually costs more than a dollar, people will use their coins or a $2 bill. Yes, machines will need to be reprogrammed. I used to use them all the time, but my bank no longer stocks them.
I actually found my sister's 2 dollar bill on Thomas Jefferson it was actually in a secret place where she had hidden it. But right now I can't remember it I think I either lost it or my sister either found it was dumb for me to do:( I think she got it way before I was even born. Dumb me :(
eliminate the penny, and start issuing 200 dollar bills. 100 dollars is not worth that much anymore. When you have to carry several 100's and risk of lossing or tearing one of them that sucks. So we need 200's now
If I understand those notes correctly, they were basically only passed between banks in the pre-computer days... used as a method of transferring large amounts of money. The reserve kept on record who was in possession of each bill. I believe that they were not ever used for general circulation. Could be wrong. I'm certainly no expert.
You are correct about the $100,000 bill, it was never available to the public, but the 500, 1,000, and I think the 10,000 were. You can even buy them on Apmex, I was thinking of getting a $500 bill but could not justify paying $850 for it!
Yeah I really don't think it was available to the public because that's a lot of money worth into ONE piece of paper xD I mean someone could like snatch that one piece of paper and you'd be screwed.
YES! they used to print them, but there werent FRN $100,000 bills, only gold certificates (with the portrait of Woodrow Wilson and with yellow back) but they werent available to the public ! : )
Coins vs. paper money = coins are amalgamated metals. Paper money is more feasible to produce and is more economical. The government is considering eliminating the penny and the nickel in the VERY NEAR FUTURE. Most notably the penny. The 2003 Series A San Francisco L-12 $2 Bill is considered to be the last $2 Bill to be issued for circulation despite the other Federal Reserve Banks making far lower print quantities than San Fran's Fed Reserve Bank. Wow, I cluttered your page - My apologies.
No way! Thank you. This is definitely not clutter! This is exactly why I do these videos. I didn't research, not because I am not interested in the history, but rather I don't have the time to research every video I make. (I made over 150 last year, no more than 1 per day) I see these videos as "starting a conversation." A conversation in which I hope to learn from the experience and knowledge of viewers! I just say what I do know, and hope others will fill in the blanks. Thanks again.
Glad to be of a assistance. The answer to your concern is they have a historical appeal to a multifarious cadre of collectors including myself - I have over 2600 of them including 1928, 1953, and 1963 Monticello reverse red seal $2 Bill U.S. Notes and horse blankets ( pre-1928 older large sized two dollar bills ). Have a nice day!

@0rcinus Sorry, but no. There is a slot for the $2 bill. Every change drawer has 5 slots. Currently the slots are used for: $1, $5, $10, $20, and $50 bills. Why save on printing costs with $2 bills?
In The Netherlands we had 5 Guilder coins ($2.85) and now we have 2 euro coins ($2.50).
The cheapest bill is a 5 euro bill here. That eliminates bills completely for vending machines and small purchases like fries, ice, etc.
But then we have a whole lot of unused bills: 100, 200 and 500. Even the 100 is not accepted by most shops.

Point of reference::: The modern $2.00 bill
with the signing of the declaration of independence is the only U.S. Bill that has a African-American ( Black) man printed on it. See if you can find him. Hint, he is sitting down.

You forgot something. Theres a Black Man on the back of the $2 bill. His name is John Hanson & he was our FIRST President! YES! Thats Right. We had 7 Presidents Before the U.S. Constitution was ever Established. Dont take my word for it. Look it Up!

So the $2 is not christian...it's masonic.

they should make a million dollar bill , it would be awesome
faybian9 2 years ago
They never have and they never will. President Nixon removed the $500/ $1,000/ $5,000/ $10,000/ and $100,000 gold certificate from circulation because it would empower and encourage gangs, counterfeiters, robberies, etc. Also, very few people ever saw those high denomination bills. Besides, giant transactions in this day of age is handled by debit cards, credit cards, and checks. Only casinos have higher denominations in chips, but they monitor your past play and some chips have radio frequency.
pimpmyride666 2 years ago
Look at that in God we trust.....got to love it. I don't even think vending machines take anything higher than 1's...(I could be wrong). Soda's don't usually cost more than 70 cents....Unless you're at 6 flags or Disney land.
jfachris 2 years ago
Where did you get them? At THE BANK! LOL!
pimpmyride666 2 years ago
Would you recommend having some other denominations with you just in case they don't trust $2 bills? One guy almost got arrested at Taco Bell and a 57 year old man was arrested and held for a few hours until the Secret Service cleared him. Also, if you do get arrested because of misunderstanding like that, you have little to no chance of suing successfully because it wouldn't qualify as false arrest.

utv1357 2 years ago

@mqg96 I hav two 2 dollar bills 27 one dollar coins
Kevinciano57 1 year ago
@mqg96 The reason they don't bring the two dollar bill back is because everytime they are released nobody spends them and the reason people dont spend them is because they are idiots. Heres a shocker folks: the 2 dollar bill is worth (drum roll please)....2 dollars!! It always has and always will be worth 2 dollars. If people actually spend them it would be in circulation.
LazyNDaCrazyDayz 1 year ago
Tell me if this is not a good idea, but I think the US treasurey should stop making 1 and 2 dollar bill banknotes and just make 1 and 2 dollar coins. That would lower the cost of making 1 and 2 dollar banknotes.
justinnate82 2 years ago
i really like $2 bills, i never thought of the idea of how much it would really cut down on the single. I work at a bank and I have $2 bills in my drawer but i only give them out if ppl ask for them. Good thoughts

I used to use them all the time, but my bank no longer stocks them.
tke329 3 years ago
I actually found my sister's 2 dollar bill on Thomas Jefferson it was actually in a secret place where she had hidden it. But right now I can't remember it I think I either lost it or my sister either found it was dumb for me to do:( I think she got it way before I was even born. Dumb me :(
girlfriend434 3 years ago
eliminate the penny, and start issuing 200 dollar bills. 100 dollars is not worth that much anymore. When you have to carry several 100's and risk of lossing or tearing one of them that sucks. So we need 200's now
tony232cool 3 years ago
They used to print 500, 1000, 10,000, and even $100,000 "Federal" Reserve Notes
DontTread0nMe1776 2 years ago
If I understand those notes correctly, they were basically only passed between banks in the pre-computer days... used as a method of transferring large amounts of money. The reserve kept on record who was in possession of each bill. I believe that they were not ever used for general circulation. Could be wrong. I'm certainly no expert.
NorCalCorsello 2 years ago
You are correct about the $100,000 bill, it was never available to the public, but the 500, 1,000, and I think the 10,000 were. You can even buy them on Apmex, I was thinking of getting a $500 bill but could not justify paying $850 for it!
DontTread0nMe1776 2 years ago
Yeah I really don't think it was available to the public because that's a lot of money worth into ONE piece of paper xD I mean someone could like snatch that one piece of paper and you'd be screwed.
JShamw0w 2 years ago
@NorCalCorsello You are correct sir and they are still considered legal tender so if you can get your hands on one you can spend it.

YES! they used to print them, but there werent FRN $100,000 bills, only gold certificates (with the portrait of Woodrow Wilson and with yellow back) but they werent available to the public ! : )

bills were printed in 1934. : )

Coins vs. paper money = coins are amalgamated metals.
DetroitLove4U 3 years ago
No way!
