Thank you Gem85! Your effort in making these avail. is VERY much appreciated! I only just discovered these two with The M & W Look via streaming on NTFLX's Instant Play. But The Mitchell and Webb Sound is even better! I have rarely ever enjoyed a show so consistently. I can't even think of a single sketch that I would actually consider "bad."
@muffin8or Well you know, laughing is a difficult skill to master. But i just think, in my opinion, it somehow amplifies the funniness when you have studio audience laughing, plus i have never found it too tricky to tell how funny something is.
@Cakerolled wrong. I'm a middleclass Englishman. Maybe it's because i watched this alone but it seemed a little empty to me. you don't need to cry about my feelings though. much love
Judging by how good this series was, it makes you think that quite possibly That Mitchell and Webb Look fell victim to interference from the dreaded BBC producers looking to make the show as broad as possible. A camel is a horse designed by a committee and all that.
@peepiepo that mitchell and webb look has produced some absolute gems the only problem with it is it tends to repeat sketch ideas too many times, i.e. get me hennimore, the event televisual gameshow, arguing parents etc.
@Jez32uk Talk about repeating sketches... Have you seen Little Britain? It had potential, but they quite literally do the same skits w/essentially the same joke each time. Not just restricted to a single episode either. They may change a location or add characters. But it is the same joke. It is hard to explain, but you really need to watch LB to see just what repeating a skit *really* is. A few get a slightly different resolution in the final episode of season 1.
Some are a bit off the mark, though, like the spoon design one. A bit laboured. But the one where the man asks people to be quiet because it's making his wife's evening comparatively miserable is so relatable and funny.
I love this. To me it's a lot better than their later sketch shows - but it makes sense that those are more popular.
This actually more closely resembles 'Jam' and other offbeat sitcoms which don't always quite have a punchline and have a dark subject matter. Especially with that sort of floaty music in the background instead of canned laughter. It's a shame - Mitch and Webb should write some more serious, dark humour series, I bet they'd be brilliant at it.
well,what can i say? i have watched all the brilliant mitchell and webb shows and thought they were great! but this is a big box of pooh! i cannot believe it's the same two people.
cant wait for peep show series 8 this year!

Would be better with an audience laughing - but still funny

@Itsaliarromeo
You don't know when to laugh yourself? The appeal of no audience is that you can gauge how funny you actually found the sketch.

@Itsaliarromeo Being told when to laugh with canned laughter does not amplify 'funniness' as much as it gives the monkeys something to copy.

Can someone tell me why this is so very very good, and the Mitchell and Webb Look so poor.
peepiepo 1 year ago
@peepiepo Probably because this doesn't have a laughtrack.

@peepiepo They're both excellent. But the laugh track on 'Look' makes it a bit tacky.
