@drnrocks98 I'm not sure, I have never tried it. But since Tiger Salamanders in pet stores are neither domesticated nor different than their wild brethren, you should not have any issues as long as its young and disease free. I know some pet stores just catch wild ones, they are generally docile if captured as a larva and tamed.
@AnimalRescuer268 hey i was wondering is there waste like dart frogs what ever whaste they maker is fertalizer for the plants and moss i would hate rip apart a nice vivi becasuese of its waste but i did hear they
do tare up vivis unless live moss growing around the whole tank and its rooted well
is a Tiger Salamander pretty close to a Marbled Salamander? I'm getting one on Tuesday and I can't seem to find many videos of them (marbled salamanders).
Ok, its not getting crushed that Im worried about but more so getting impacted by a pebble. I have lots of invert fauna in my substrate ( different types of worms mostly ) and I know he would have a blast digging some up but I just dont want him to catch a pebble also.
What substrate did you use in that case? I wanna Put one in my 45 Bow front but its got lots of nice moss with a drainage of small pebble. Im scared of the drainage layer impacting him.
Do you use any draining or just keep it damp more so then wet?
@jwerner2 I just used dirt, pebbles and moss. I pour a 500mL bottle of water in the tank every two days, so I guess it is more wet that damp. My salamander just digs around, even throught the pebbles, he has never been crushed. But you can just keep it moist if you like. I doubt the salamander will get hurt though.
@jwerner2 He usually digs in the mud underneath his water bowl. Occasionally I pile old moss in the middle of the vivarium, then he will dig in moss. But most of the time he just digs a hole in one spot, then burrows around the vivarium, so you can't see the actual damage :).
They do not grow quickly, I have had mine about 6-7 months and he has not grown a bit. It will generally take a few years for a noticeable change in size. Remember to occasionally supplement with calcium if the salamander does not get bone (like a pinkie mouse). But if you do decide to feed pinkies, make sure not to feed many (about once or twice a month) as the milk in the mouses stomach is high in fat and can cause obesity. Best of luck to you and your mander =¬)
Yes, about every month. I just take the dead moss out, take some from my plant nursery (it grows EVERYWHERE). The root system is not very delicate, and it comes up from the ground very easily, no long roots. I just lay it on the ground.
is it active or does it stay asleep all day?

Do you have to hand feed your salamanders or are you able to drop a few crickets in?

I cant get the video response to work. If you click on my videos it the 46 Bow terrarium.

Here is the tank.
I swapped out the moss for leaf litter anyway. Moss gets kinda old and as nice as it is its really not that natural or practical.
Im either going with a Tiger or a T. Shanjing.
