@SaturdayFighter LOL...I think SNK knew most people would as they re-released 98 and 2002 on PS2 and xbox live just before they released this game. Its a solid game but lacking in depth and not worth the $60 price tag I originally paid for it.

I enjoyed "The King Of Fighters XII" because of the incredible backgrounds and great hand-drawn animation but it lacked severely with no boss characters, only a handful of stages and no Mai, Yuri and King. But "The King Of Fighters XIII" is absolutely incredible. X-Play gave it a 4 out of 5. Does anyone know if those elephants are hand-drawn or polygnal; they look amazing. This is 2D fighting at its very best. Period.

Offensive backgrounds? Do they have rednecks chanting "Niggas" on the background? No, its only offensive to IGN because they have to downgrade every game for no reason at all. Like another guy said, they're using sprites of course theres gonna be pixelation you dumb asses! They don't have story mode nor Mai and thats awful. But nobody cares about survivor. It has a great fighting system and great controls, thats what a fighting game is about. Should be 7.5/10, but no chance in hell only 6.
@towdow3 i think they're a bit picky about the whole online thing... not only that, but ign really looks into replay value in games such as extra modes (Story, Score Attack) and bonus art content etc... the pixelated characters was a bit over the top but i think a 6-6.5 would be fair in all honesty. Not only that KOFXII was competing with blazblue and sf4 at the time so marks were pretty harsh. BUT KOFXIII has pretty much made up for all it's previous mistakes (except idk about online)

What I see is purely a SF-4-based game, using SNK's ADV-Groove (from TKOF '97) and Capcom's A-groove (from SF Zero series). Come on! We have a long path together to end up like THIS?!
@masterscheme1 with all respect kof was good but not perfect there were a few edges to take care there and there as for character pixelation, network gameplay, little more character, but it was great in terms of a new generation of 2D fighting and hopely KOF XIII will take care these edges
This is better than BlazBlu ,in that its not based in some fantastic high rez nightmare that doesnt relate to martial arts or streetfighting, if your into the fantastic then blazblu will probably be a magical game , in my opinion if your into martial arts styles then stick with this , or streetfigher 3 or 4 , The best 2d fighter is still the Real Bout Fatal Fury series for martial art realism. I wish Real Bout would get updated to todays graphics.
What people fail to understand was that this was one of the experimental titles in the franchise, the last one being KoF 2003. Of course there won't be much because they are basically just seeing what they could do in next gen. It's safe to say that KoF XIII basically perfects everything XII was built on and more, can't wait :D

IGN shouldn't review fighters. They probably only play casually less than one week than go on reviewing the game with little experience...all the footage show no a single viable combo and anyone who pick up the controller could do as much.

Mai was a huge edition to the KoF series, besides her breasts, it took skill to learn her. To take her out is like taking out Ryu from Street Fighter.

@IGNentertainment It's not that surprising that the menus are bland, there are so few stages, the online is laggy, and no Mai. SNK isn't like Capcom where they have tons of money. They overtly went with a bare bones approach while focusing mainly on the graphics and animation aspect. The gameplay is good so that's a relief. As a note, KOF XIII is out on Japan and will probably come out on he USA PS3. That game has Mai in it.

@IGNentertainment It's not that surprising that the menus are bland, there are so few stages, the online is laggy, and no Mai. SNK isn't like Capcom where they have tons of money. They overtly went with a bare bones approach while focusing mainly on the graphics and animation aspect. The gameplay is good so that's a relief. As a note, KOF XIII is out on Japan and will probably come out on he USA PS3. That game has Mai in it.

I think people like MALDASF can serve as an example between different kinds of fighting game fans: there are those who usually buy more than 2 fighting games a year, who might also like and play 1 brand (like Street Fighter) more than other brands, but can also respect other franchises as well. @LordSey So very true. I like the game but I was disappointed that Mai and Yuri were not in the game and no boss to fight. Not to mention only a handful of stages; even though some of them are stunning. Thank goodness that Mai, Yuri and King are back in The King Of Fighters XIII.

No Mai no Yuri = :( but I've clocked a lot of hours on this game playing mostly as Leona + Athena + One of the others. It's a solid fighter but the online is still a mess and with XIII on the way I'm thinking SNK is gonna leave it as is, shame.
