The USA is about "freedoms" and "equality" ENUMERATED in our Constitution. Can you find any mention of sexual orientation in the Constitution or its Amendments? Race, gender, age and nationality are all given specific mention, but there is nothing mentioned about sexual orientation.
So, until an Amendment is properly ratified extending "freedom" and "equality" to homosexuals, the states are free to ban or legalize marriage as they see fit.

i had no sex attraction to guys until i was around 18. until then, i was into sex w/ many girls in my 'hood. i've been gay since about 25. it was a big surprise to many people - including me, but i've been able to remember the experiences which caused the switch in me, not that it really matters. what does matter is that i'm able to express love and enjoy sex in a way which comes natural to me - and many are not able to in this world due to rampant homophobia. end discrimination now!

Their are other biological and psychological factors to the human mind that make up for unchoosen disorders/orientations. This to me is a non-issue. If you don't agree with marriage equality, don't marry someone of the same sex! As a school teacher, I don't ever recall reading/citing the words..."with liberty and justice for ALL" and seeing the word, "except". Separate but equal does not, has not and should not work.
