  • Respect

  • It's an amazing achievement to have got that piece to such a good standard. Brilliant playing!

Fripp is a one-off, willingly building these musical cages for himself to perform in public. Conceiving a piece like this is astonishing enough - playing it well is extraordinary too.

  • Good job buddy

  • What the fuck... O_O

  • Great job!

  • great job. a perfectly fine way to play the guitar. as a drummer i am always delighted when other instruments focus on rhythm.

  • gr

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAI

  • Very precise, accurate, harder to play on 25.5 inch scale(strat), than a les Paul scale too. I'm very impressed, and quite entertained with your skills. Bravo.

  • now i know why fripp plays sitting down LOL.

  • Nice fingies bro.

  • I think this is brilliant. Way more impressive than all of the shedding guitarists(who usually think theyre gods gift to guitar) that are plentiful on youtube!

  • 5 minutes well spent.

  • You're a very bold man to even try to touch robert fripps material!

but to do such a good job at covering it... hats off to you good sir.

  • Not a Chapman stick, but ok.

  • @saxman076 Tony Levin plays the Chapman Stick on this song, not Robert Fripp

  • @saxman076 Hahahahaha.... ummmm. It's not a drum set either, now is it?

  • very, very, very, astonishingly good :O :)

  • Nice job, this piece needs focus and endurance out the ass to play.

  • Most excellent!

  • Uh...hmm...yeah. My head really, really hurts now...thank you very much.

  • Excellent stuff mate. Heh Heh. Even Fripp doesn't get it quite the same each time. Difficult to keep time without the percussion too.

  • WOAH AMAZING! nothing else to say. I've been playing 10 years and I'm not even close to being so thecnique!

  • holy shit!

  • Impressive man!

  • Incredible!

  • youre very good!!

  • i will never play this, i can not even see which notes to take(( how to play this?

  • i will never play this, i can not even see which note to take(( how to play this?

  • chit, i will never play this, i can not even see which note to take(( how to play this?

  • how long have you been playing?

  • nice job

  • was the 4,127th note a G or Gb ? Good work.

  • veeeeeery great

  • Dude, that was impressive. Thanks for recording. It is cool to hear the individual parts to get a feel for how they were written and played. Well done.

  • Awesome!

  • great. fripp is the guitar god...

  • wow dude, let it rip! 0:47

  • Learning this song at the moment myself, thanks for the video. Helps with figuring out how to do a couple parts. Nice fretting.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this, I would never have figured this out. It seems pretty close!

  • I enjoyed it bro , i dont think Fripp would be frowning at you if you did a duet with him , well done on such of a bitch of a song to play.

  • Wow! good work!

  • ahha

    sweet!

  • soooo impressed

  • You are such a good player. I really enjoy your style and dexterity.

  • Mr Fripp would be proud! I only wish i could play as well!!!

  • Are you sweep picking some of the notes?? I'm trying to do strict alternate and it's killing my thumb.

  • @SwedishviKingohnoes

Probably alternate in 90% of time, i´m not sure.

  • @chalambro I meant the section at 1:46. It looks like you are sweeping half of the riff.

  • DO FRIPP"S FRAME BY FRAME PART!

  • @MichaelMcBomb

Don´t try me man, i play that song!

  • @chalambro Would you mind making a vid of it? That'd be sweet.

  • @chalambro upload then!!!!!

  • This really is a very hypnotic track, very difficult to stop watching and listening

  • Is this possible to play without alternate picking?

  • This is impressive. I know it's standard tuning because I saw older posts, but is the version on the record in standard tuning?

  • Standard Tuning.

  • @chalambro thanx

  • @SLASHdaROCKER Fripp took on his tuning in 1984, a few years after this first appeared.

  • I just tried to make both parts (first 5/8 section) simultaneously. It's possible with some finger stretch. But for the rest... I leave it up to God =)

  • wow!!!! Has nobody said well done ! That is an amazingly disciplined piece of playing!!! And will help us mortals tease out the web and weft , thanks

  • Impressive!

  • Quite impressive. Bravo!

  • OUTSTANDING

  • i think fripp is tone deaf and possese's a poor sense in rhytming dat wat it said in my book a

  • HOw does Fripp approach picking?

    economy? or strict alternate?

    thanks

great cover - hope to do this soon

  • Professor Fripp is a trip!

    Audible Cubism

    Electronic Fripptronic

  • much respect mate. you seemed to be breathing from your diaphram at times... i've always been fascinated with Fripp's repetition technique, and really enjoyed hearing you

  • Tank you, discipline is the name of the game!

  • Excellent work - I bet Toyah was impressed ! Show her your third leg !!!

  • wow that is seriously good. to be able to copy fripp takes some doing ..fair play to ya!

  • Hahah, just learned this with another guy. Once you get the two guitars in there, same volume, sounds incredible. I reccomend you find someone who can play Adrian's part. Most fun I've ever had in a guitar duet..

  • Maybe you can play the Adrian´s part with me. Post your video. I'll wait a lifetime...

  • Unreal. That's tight Please allow for some tabs. i want to play this till my head explodes. Discipline will be my legacy. grace_oddity at yahoo.... com

  • geeeeeesusmuthafuckingchrist!! tears in my eyes..

  • bravo bravo bravo

  • so nice man, your skill is impressive

  • Don't bother with tabs: We'd never be able to play it.

You are an incredible guitarist. Thanks for posting.

  • why are you wearing no trousers?

  • Because i was fucking your sister.

  • hahah thats amazing. but i also am wondering if thats standard tune or NST?

  • standard tuning, see previous posts

  • Fripp didn't use NST then...just thought I'd say that...

  • Great job, so nice to hear. Is your guitar tuned normally or in NST ?

  • Outstanding job!

  • tabs!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for that. It is nice to be able to see and hear that part dissected from the song. I can only imagine how much practice it took to get all the way through that piece. You know you rock if you can play a complicated Fripp piece!!!

  • It took me some days, but Fracture is much more challenge. Maybe next year i´ll record and post the moto-perpetuo section that song, nowadays my fingers are too rusty!

  • you should try olive oil, it works great...for hair, body, or guitar skills...just kidding, if you got to this point your fingers sure aint rusty and i belive you could do the other part.

    O.D. peace

  • congratulations!!

  • Great, great job.

  • I have admired Fripp for decades and I am filled with admiration for his ability to create such beautiful, complex, technically challenging music. I tip my hat respectfully at your ability to execute this difficult piece.

  • Holy shit!! O:

  • gr8 man!

  • I bow before you, master!

    And thanks to Robert Fripp.

He's the reason I ever picked up a guitar.

  • Awesome playing man!

You should check out my videos I don't cover any King Crimson (probably couldn't even if I tried :D) but a lot of the stuff I write is influenced by them.

  • DUDE, YOU ARE GOOOOD!

  • I always manage to keep up until the phrases at 2:20 and then I'm left in the dust... I'm thoroughly impressed.

  • reminds me of tool, jones was influenced by fripp

  • very good work dude, this is my favorite KC period. the 80's. i could be wrong, but i dont think KC used NST until the construkction of light. or maybe fripp did, but i know belew didnt.

  • apparently I remember hearing that fripp uses tunings like C,G,D,G,C,D and all dat madness.............

  • Not in this song, see the other posts.

  • are you using a tuning?

  • Very amazing. Great job. Thanks for posting.

  • Kudos. I got a little dizzy watching your fingers. I wish more "shredders" learned the right thing from Fripp. This is technically challenging but also melodically beautiful.

  • A tab or a slowed down version would be Incredible for us novice guitar players ^^, Been trying to tab this song down just to end up with an epic fail =/

  • perfect

  • Oooooh man. Mind blowing.

  • I think you played this better than I did. Nice tone, and with a pick!

  • You´re mixing the Belew and Fripp phrases.

  • I thought so, wasn't sure though.

  • Wow!! You are amazing and thanks for posting this!!!

  • Perfect

  • muy bueno viejo, me encanto, excelente.

  • Absolutely amazing. Would you please post a much slower paced video? I'd love to learn the piece. Great work.

  • 0:48 Yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhh........

  • muy bueno!!

  • YEAH!

  • BRAVO

  • How is your guitar tuned for this?

  • Standard Tuning

  • Exellent (!)

  • Nice One.

  • heh this was uploaded on my birthday last year. Where did you get the tabs for this song?

  • By ear.

  • Damn that's nice work....!!!!!!!!!!!

  • VERY,VERY Nice..I have loved this song for years. You did it justice..I have a nice lil buzz going on from a few beers, and you made my night!!!You are talented, dude!!

  • nice work!

  • very nice play !

fat sound of hotrail is nice, too.

  • Nice legs!!!

  • I have three.

  • hahahaha

  • Wow...that was great! If I am ever able to play this as well as you do, I will be content with my life. :P

  • starting from the first notes i didn't not believe you could be able to play the hardest parts of Discipline, well hat off to you sir! i love this song

  • thank you !

  • Brilliant effort. Congratulations.

  • I thought that there was some trick to this song. Someone told me that there was a tape loop involved. It's easy to see why Fripp never plays standing up, always on his bar stool. BTW, how modified is that Fender?

  • I think that there´s no trick, it´s just Fripp! You can hear a live verson of this song in "King Crimson Absent Lovers". In this album, Discipline is slightly different than studio version, is a little faster and some sections are abbreviated, and other are increased, but the essentials remains unchanged, Belew play at constant phrasing and Fripp changing the phrasing until the moment that both are together again, this is "the secret" of this song i think. And a lot of discipline of course!

  • I don´t use a Fender, it´s a japanese Charvel CX290 with Seymour Duncan hot rail with a push-pull parallel wiring in the neck to simulate a telecaster sound, a jackson original single coil in the middle and diMarzio superdistortion in the bridge.

  • woot!

  • Very impressive! A real challenge to play.

  • very inovative way to play this. Fripp makes no barre but jumps from string to string to make it sound as staccato as posible.

  • Thank you. As I learned the Fripp's part by ear with the help of a pianist friend, I really do not know how Fripp plays because he must use another tuning. So, I will be grateful if you can help me find a video showing him playing that song or what tuning he uses!

  • amazing video, i think you did a wonderful job!

and btw, fripp only changed tunings in 1985 so you're right there with the standard tuning

  • As per amtreble, you should be right with standard tuning. Wikipedia "New Standard Tuning".

Crafty Guitarists Do Always Eat Good. :)

  • Well, at least I am not so wrong!

  • Hi! Fripp began using what he calls the New Standard Tuning (CGDAEG) in 1984, after this song was written. I'm assuming he was using standard tuning for this, and he plays similar lines in Elephant Talk, so I would watch a video of him playing that on here to get an idea of his fretting and picking technique.

  • Well, i use this fingering to play more confortable, and i try to play as staccato as possible by palm muting the strings and the notes that I´m not playing.

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • Excellent.

Do you play this in standard tuning or Fripp tuning?

  • Thanks. I play this in the standard tuning.

  • i dont relly know, but i think fripp and belew play with standard tunning.

  • wow

  • Thres background song, you should have played it with no background.

  • I play this song with a metronome, with background, with a program in a computer and with a band. My amplifier was much louder than playback. Soon i will post a more accurate version with a midi drums and stick.

  • Very very Frip! Perfection.

  • Bravo!

  • That's pretty amazing! As someone else said this piece is really difficult. Still you did a top job. Congrats!

  • Thank you. Soon i will post a more accurate version. This one is much close but is not totally correct, there´s some mistakes in the fingering and even the notes.

  • Mistakes or not this is still awesome. Looking at your fingers on the fret board - I rarely see guitarists play that fast today. Still, I look forward to another version. I will even subscribe to be sure to see it!

  • excellent work!

  • Very well done.

  • Excellent job sir! This song is ridiculously tough.
