Beautiful! To my ear it's the ballads that really convey the full impact of the tenorist's emotion. Better said by the close female friend of a famous tenor interviewed on his biographical DVD " ...it's the ballads. He kills you with the ballads..." What amazes me is that Allen definitely has his own sound, yet he can remind you of so many icons of the past in very subtle ways. He pays homage to those who paved the way but never merely copies them.
