i saw a north american porcupine today, and i also saw the skeleton and quills of an african porcupine like in the video at a store in new york city called evolution. those are biiiiig porcupines

Yeh African crested can be almost 30kgs. I've worked with one who's quills were almost up to my hip when erect..and she was only 20kgs! Hard to imagine what a 30kg one would be like.

African cresteds also have 'rattle capules' in their tail that sound like a rattle snake when they are threatened. They can be pretty frightening!
